Sunday Messages

When Paul and Barnabas amazed the Greeks with their healing power and authoritative teaching-the crowd was quick to credit their usual gods. But Paul and Baranabas deflected the praise and found new ways to point to the evidence and goodness of God.

Paul and Barnabas set off on their first missionary journey, and immediately encounter spiritual resistance from a false prophet and “enemy of all that is good.” We all need to guard the voices we give ear to.

On the day we honor the men among us, we look at the life of a man whose enduring legacy was his gift of encouragement. Barnabas saw and called out God’s best in people, including Paul.

Peter is thrown in prison for preaching the gospel. But the church prayed earnestly and Peter wasn’t the only one who had a hard time believing that an angel rescued him.

Like our lives, the book of Acts moves and breathes between Extraordinary time and Ordinary time, but God’s grace was extraordinary in both, especially for those who gained the nickname “Christians.”

Throughout the Book of Acts, we see examples of how God empowers the Church to carry out miraculous healing, transformation and Gospel expansion in the name of Jesus Christ. What happened in those days can also happen in these days! Then and now, it starts with hearing God’s voice.  

On the day we honor the women among us, we remember the story of a woman who was so beloved that when she passed, the community gathered to show off her handmade clothes. But Peter asked The Lord to let her live again…

Confirming our faith in Jesus is just the beginning of a wild and wonderful journey of learning to follow him. Paul did not become a missional man of God overnight, but over time.

Acts 9 captures the most famous conversion story in the book of Acts- as Paul goes from persecutor to proselytizer.

The good news about Jesus spreads to unlikely people from unlikely places. But what can stand in the way of them believing and being baptized?

Holy Week begins with the celebration of Palm Sunday. Over the course of this week- Jesus moved from being exalted as a hero to crucified as a criminal. In Acts 7, the first Christian martyr (Stephen) follows the same trajectory.

Stephen- a man full of God’s grace and power- is falsely accused by jealous Jews. Knowing his time is short, he delivers a message that invites his accusers to break their pattern of rejecting the truth.

The rapid growth of the early church led to growing pains that revealed the need for new solutions and new leaders.

The Disciples are freed from jail by an angel of the Lord for the purposes of the Lord, knowing their calling still risked persecution. Your freedom in Jesus contains purpose and carries risk. Will you take the risk to live your purpose?

The early church continues the healing ministry of Jesus

The believers pray a powerful prayer

The Pattern repeats- Miracle- Message- Response- Resistance… Accused- Arrested- And told to stay quiet- but Peter and John would not be silenced.

Shortly after its inception, the early church begins to venture out into a world in need, living supernaturally as they had seen Jesus do. As a result, a miraculous healing happens at a gate called Beautiful.

The early believers gathered regularly, to learn how to live the Holy Spirit empowered life together.
