Sunday Messages

Anxiety often stems from the belief that there isn't enough to go around. This "scarcity" mindset keeps our hearts small and stressed. To go beyond this fear, we must realize that we aren't "owners" of our lives, but "conduits"—shifting from a clenched fist to an open hand of generosity.

Personal (and church!) growth stalls when we live for ourselves. To go beyond self, we must undergo a total mental recalibration—shifting from being a "consumer" of life to a "living sacrifice" for God and others.

Personal comfort acts as an invisible barrier to our spiritual breakthrough, effectively becoming an idol that limits our growth. To move beyond this and unlock radical freedom, we must trade our passive pursuit of ease for the active, unshakeable courage found in Christ—who empowers us to do all things.

We often hit a limit in our spiritual lives because we rely on our own finite resources. To go beyond our natural limits, we must shift from self-sufficiency to a posture of expectancy and deep dependence on God’s infinite resources and power.

We close our wild and wonderful journey through the Book of Acts with Paul’s arrival in Rome, where he continues to boldly teach about Jesus. Nothing or No one could stop him.

Fall is the time to come back to our core mission and purpose, as individuals and as a church. In this passage, Paul is forced to articulate his life mission, message, and his motivation for it all.

A prophet graphically foretells that Paul’s ministry career will end with arrests and accusations, yet he seizes every opportunity to share his story, and the good news about Jesus with countless leaders and crowds.

As Paul says goodbye to believers in Ephesus, he reflects on this ministry career, and leaves the next generation of leaders with encouragement to guard and protect God’s flock.

Paul stayed in Ephesus longer than anywhere else, and his message triggered a massive, culturally disruptive spiritual awakening in a city deeply saturated with superstition, sorcery, and witchcraft.

Loose morals, pagan temples, and rampant materialism made the thriving, turbulent cosmopolitan metropolis of Corinth a fascinating and intimidating place for Paul to bring the Gospel message.

When Paul reached Athens, he was deeply disturbed by idols and inscriptions to an “Unknown God.” He earned the invitation to speak with the Greek philosophers and used his sermon on “Mars Hill” to introduce the Creator they worship without knowing.

When his prayer to set a woman free lands Paul and Silas in prison, their worship and prayer causes the earth to quake, chains to break, and the jailer and his whole household come to faith in Jesus.

The Holy Spirit leads Paul and Silas into Europe, where they find a woman by the riverside, whose heart is open to their message.

There are moments when the deep convictions held by two Christians may differ so significantly that they have to separate, not because one is “right” and the other “wrong” but because each must be faithful to The Lord’s direction.

From the start, The Church has faced moments of sharp disagreement around beliefs and practices. Acts 15 represents the first “council” of Christian leaders, who worked through their differences, and provided unified direction.

When Paul and Barnabas amazed the Greeks with their healing power and authoritative teaching-the crowd was quick to credit their usual gods. But Paul and Baranabas deflected the praise and found new ways to point to the evidence and goodness of God.

Paul and Barnabas set off on their first missionary journey, and immediately encounter spiritual resistance from a false prophet and “enemy of all that is good.” We all need to guard the voices we give ear to.

On the day we honor the men among us, we look at the life of a man whose enduring legacy was his gift of encouragement. Barnabas saw and called out God’s best in people, including Paul.

Peter is thrown in prison for preaching the gospel. But the church prayed earnestly and Peter wasn’t the only one who had a hard time believing that an angel rescued him.

Like our lives, the book of Acts moves and breathes between Extraordinary time and Ordinary time, but God’s grace was extraordinary in both, especially for those who gained the nickname “Christians.”

This week's sermon.

Throughout the Book of Acts, we see examples of how God empowers the Church to carry out miraculous healing, transformation and Gospel expansion in the name of Jesus Christ. What happened in those days can also happen in these days! Then and now, it starts with hearing God’s voice.

On the day we honor the women among us, we remember the story of a woman who was so beloved that when she passed, the community gathered to show off her handmade clothes. But Peter asked The Lord to let her live again…
