Strife's Sanctum

Another couple of weeks, another anime update. Going through the current anime of the season and give some general thoughts and predictions of where those shows are headed. A couple are 1also nearing their end. Ground rules- Watching dubs only (might be a week or two behind)- Not every show available will be covered- I'll try avoiding spoilers wherever possible, but it will be marked regardles...

This week's game review is a special one for me. While I didn't think much of the game in my first run, FFIX ended up being one of the best games in the franchise in retrospect. It takes a keen eye to see how dark and somber the game truly is in spite of some loveable goofiness at times. I decided to take a thorough look at a tentpole game in the series: the good, the bad, the ugly, and th...

This week's anime review talks about a detective show with a bend into the supernatural. Kotoko Iwanaga is the "Goddess of Wisdom" who settles disputes between yokai and the human world. The show goes differently than most detective shows in that most crimes are already solved: she is just recounting the events or even telling the most convenient fiction that supports her claims. Upc...

This week's game review is of a JRPG I just finished on my main channel. QoL and new visuals breathe new life into an old classic. The main issue is the QoL didn't go far enough. There's also a late game boss mechanic that really kills the momentum. But on the whole, DQ3 HD-2D Remake is a great game. This week's anime review talks about a harem show that revels in and yet somehow sidesteps a lot of cliches through clever characters and writing. Makeine focuses on three girls almost equally enough, it avoids the trap of a "main girl problem" for now at least. Persona 5 took the franchise from critical darling to mainstream success. With it came several crossover opportunities. The first of which was a Musou-type spinoff that tried to blend the frenetic action hack and slash with Personas slower methodical storytelling. While not perfect, P5S was a solid enough game that lasted long enough to stand on its own merits. Podcast Schedule (Based on Saturday...

Second short review this week: this one tackles a long awaited remake of a classic series. Now intent on showing the finished product, Spice and Wolf returns with a different look, a different arc or two, but a lot of the same attention and care the original show possessed. It doesn't "replace" the original. It stands on its own as a different visual style. You can really go with eit...

Double bill reviews this week. First up, a very dumb comedy about a very perverted guy doing odd jobs while surrounded by pretty girls. The weird thing is, the show is better at its premise and isn't shy about being really stupid and funny about it. It's definitely one of those "You have to be in the mindset for it" kind of things...but it's so educational! Upcoming ScheduleF...

If you haven't watched my full review of Ys VIII, here's the link. https://creators.spotify.com/pod/dashboard/episode/e1716hq It's been a long time since I've played Ys VIII for my channel. However, I still go back to it from time to time and reflect on what I experienced and why the game holds up after a decade. With a couple new Ys games failing to reach VIII's lofty standard...

Everyone has a journey in their lives. What they watch, play, interact with, and experience shapes what they do and who they become. Playing certain games or watching certain types of TV shows or movies does the same. I've been a fan of JRPGs and anime going on 25-30 years at this point, so I wanted to take a trip down memory lane and talk about my journey. If anyone wants to share parts or al...

This week's anime review has a silly title, and a premise that a weaker show would have taken in a more trashy direction. It manages to dodge the obvious bad end when faced with the situation it presents and become a solid series that blends comedy and drama pretty well. A different kind of visual novel, Danganronpa is a mix of Phoenix Wright, Zero Escape, and a whole lot of weird shit. Campy at times, dark at times, and whole lots of weird at all times, Danganronpa carved out its own niche in the visual novel genre. This week's anime review revolves around a soft reboot of a 70s super fighting robot anime. However, this takes everything in a wildly darker and more apocalyptic direction. Humanity is all but gone, and robots are corroding via "Ruin." The ones that survive are trying to find an immortal robot steeped in rumor. If you eat Casshern's flesh, you can avoid Ruin. So begins a dark anime that requires...
