Much like MM5, X5 suffers from formulaic design choices. It isn't as much a deal breaker though. Having never played Suikoden, I was quite impressed with how breezy and fun the games were. The 2nd game improved so much the overall package was a good result. The main issue was character recruitment being awkward and sometimes unnecessary or limited in character investment. But that's the nature of designing 108 characters I suppose.
