Strife's Sanctum

Another couple of weeks, another anime update. Going through the current anime of the season and give some general thoughts and predictions of where those shows are headed. Ground rules- Watching dubs only (might be a week or two behind)- Not every show available will be covered- I'll try avoiding spoilers wherever possible, but it will be marked regardless. Shows I Enjoyed- Ascendance of a Bo...

This week's review is a frustrating look back on a game I wanted to love, but grew to get annoyed by. Dragon Quest games are usually breezy or at least whimsical affairs. But the story and dungeon design left this feeling way longer than necessary. At least the QoL improvements in this version made for a fully customizable difficulty experience. Wanted to change it up a bit this week. Decided to dig through my memory and discuss shows that I love rewatching constantly, and then the ones that I may have liked before but can't anymore or just can't after one viewing. This is a continuation of the Danganronpa Trilogy. If you haven't watched the episode on the first two, check out episodes 102 and 168Xenosaga III finishes up a frustratingly fascinating trilogy of games in a frustratingly fascinating way. A lot lays at the feet of the good and bad way they portrayed Shion as the main character in this game. It sucks, because everything else about the game fel...

This week's anime review talks about a dopey romance show that doesn't take itself too seriously. Sometimes, you just need an easygoing show that isn't too hardcore that doesn't have many stakes. This one is about a dorky teen going from Tokyo to Hokkaido to transfer schools. There, he learns about the prefecture, the sights, the sounds, and three specific school girls he spends ti...

This is a continuation of talks about the Danganronpa series. If you haven't listened to the episode detailing the first game, go to Episode #178.A post-mortem on Danganronpa 2. Consideirng I'm currently playing all three games back to back, my stream of consciousness ramblings might be weird compared to if I played these at different times. This week's anime review talks about a show that fits the crime drama/action niche well enough. Mercenaries, mob bosses, angry people, guns, secret government projects and organizations: stuff like that. Won't beat out the best shows of that style, but decent if you need another one to watch. Another Castlevania double bill. This time, I talk about various things regarding the two 3D Castlevania games on the Playstation 2. While not amazing in any aspect, there was enough fun to be had trying something different with the franchise. This is a re-review of a game I did a podcast for long ago. The original can be heard here. https://open.spotify.com/episode/6sFNOaFIYjpbgHHVxYsolh?si=6EHCIwXkQ4O7hj-I0sAwog One of my longtime favorites, Breath of Fire 3 represents an RPG that does everything well, even if if doesn't completely hit the mark. I've always had a fondness for the game's story, and some of the themes it rep...

Much like MM5, X5 suffers from formulaic design choices. It isn't as much a deal breaker though. What really sours the experience is some design choices that really disrupt the flow of what is supposed to be a fast and frenetic game experience. Time to get back into Mega Man stuff. Problem is this is the first time I don't really have a lot to say. Almost none of the bosses, levels, nor songs are of much interest. Coming off two great games and a solid 4th outing, MM5 is the first where the formula begins to wear thin.
