The UPstander's Podcast with Dr. Omekongo

I didn’t watch the entire interview with #davinchi and @cam but what I saw was problematic enough. What’s also problematic is how we let debates about issues facing the Black community be led by Black entertainers. No other group does this. We are also doing this while most of us are living through a period of government anti-Blackness that we have never seen before. Ignorance about other Black pe...

Those these 4 situations are very different, the reactions, hate and scorn directed at them as opposed to the systems they are part of is part of the problem. Why do we have so much smoke for the individuals but not the systems? To be clear, the only real "victims" out of my scenarios here are the Wells family so don't think I'm comparing the others as victims too. We need to be mindful of how we...

I said Afro-Cuban grandfather in the video but I meant to say father. Fat Joe should not be using the n-word. NO ONE should be using the n-word. Fat Joe also played into the worst of Black stereotypes by proclaiming himself the "blackest n...." out there. He should know better and so should we. This is a time for leadership as an elder in the game, not more ignorance. Learn more about your ad choi...

If you remember 911, it was one of the worst days in our country's history. Some would say what happened in the aftermath was worse. I'm concerned that what happened that day is not being taught to newer generations. I also know that president Trump is not the leader for this moment. What are your reflections on 911 and what are your thoughts on what we should be doing going forward? #911 #911atta...

Whether you like Kamala Harris, Hakeem Jeffries and others, or whether you think they are the worst politicians ever, there is no excuse for racist attacks against them. We must call that out regardless of who it comes from. It's not acceptable for other groups and it should not be acceptable with Black people. #racism #antiracism #kamalaharris #hakeemjeffries #lauraloomer #angienixon #chuckschume...

There were some definite questions that pressed  @MrStephenASmith  but ultimately, I am not sure if the interview accomplished anything. I'm a fan of  @ItsJemeleHill  &  @ItsCariChampion  but I don't know if this interview hit the mark they were looking for and I don't really see it changing #stephenasmith in any substantive way. What do you think? #carichampion #espn...

Representative Jasmine Crockett has every right to not get out and campaign with James Talarico. I am asking y'all to share your thoughts on if you think this will affect her career if she continues her political career. Will she be looked at as irrelevant if he wins? In a country that loves to blame a Black woman, will it just be put on her (unfairly)? Thoughts? #jasminecrockett #jamestalarico #t...

From ICE raids to the rise in police shootings including by the National Guard (like Tyrin Johnson) and Customs, Border Patrol, #trump and #stephenmiller are getting over because not enough of us give a damn. It was really sad to see how Senators Rand Paul and Thom Tillis got softball interviews on #morningjoe. I am all for hearing diverse voices and perspectives, but I am more interested in holding people accountable and none of that occurred in these interviews. The American people deserve better than what they got today and last week with these interviews. Watch Mika's response to the Fauci hearing:...

I find it frustrating to hear people call what's happening in Gaza anything but a genocide. My response and your response to them should be: "So what?" "Now what?" While there are supposed to be real consequences for the enacting of a genocide, there can be other consequences for those engaging in mass atrocities, ethnic cleansing, and more. Many people who say that what is happening in Gaza is no...

On Capitol Review on  @DCNewsNow_  I discussed Trump and the Iran war, Jeannine Pirro's decision to cover her own behind, and the hypocrisy of the Anthony Fauci hearings. I get that there are differing opinions on the #tuskegee dress code decision but the main notion of Black bodies being policed with this decision and respectability politics just doesn't apply in this case. If people can spend 5 hours getting ready and going to and back from concerts, they can put on regular close to go to a 75 minute class. I don't think the code is necessary for the cafeteria bu...

I respect that people have differing opinions about Tuskegee's dress code. The part I cannot accept is the idea that dressing down is a Black cultural thing and having Black students dress up is some form of respectability politics. Black people have always had professional standards in all aspects of our history because of the respect we have for ourselves, not because we were trying to fit into...

Legendary radio & TV entrepreneur Cathy Hughes of Radio one and more, shared her thoughts on the role Black entertainers used to play in the political climate they faced vs. what they are doing now. n this interview about my book "G.R.O.W. Towards Your Greatness! 10 steps to living your best life" I talk about growing up and seeing people of so many backgrounds changing their names and hide from their culture in order to blend in to mainstream society. So-called progressives in many instances are pushing candidates that Black people warn about as being problematic, not just because of the racism they point out from candidates. As the base of the party, Black people deserved to be heard and respected in ways that they are not, especially Black women. #grahamplatner #platner #vetting #dnc #democrats #blackvoters #blackvotersmatter #maine #susancol...

It's so frustrating to hear people say that ICE is killing the wrong people. These are the people they WANT to kill. They want to kill protesters like Renee Good and Alex Pretti. They WANT to kill Latinos like Lorenzo Salgada Araujo and Joan Sebastián Durán Guerrero. If they didn't want these individuals killed, then the killers would be fired. There would be arrested. There would be trials. There...

Some are saying that it is wrong to say that there is a racial element with the death of Nolan Wells. Do you think that's true? Given how the #trump administration racializes everything, do you think that this is right in line with what has always happened in America? #nolanwells #nolanxavierwells #mississippi #bencrump #trump #blacklivesmatter Learn more about your ad choices. My next book drops on November 17th! Check out the chapters and learn a little more about this book that I wrote to engage in what Glenn Singleton calls the "courageous conversations" we need to bring this country together. There will also be an audiobook. You can order your copy wherever you get your books! I am also putting together a book tour so holla at me if you want me to come to your town....

Republicans are quick to say that they didn't hear certain comments that Trump make or posts. Democrats are starting to do the same thing and say they haven't heard or read various comments by people like Graham Platner and Darializa Avila Chevalier. That's a mistake. Democrats should condemn and past problematic comments and then recognize that these individuals have held themselves accountable f...

I don't understand why, after almost TWO years, people are still talking about Kamala Harris and Gaza. Regardless of whether you think her stance on Gaza is the reason she lost then fine, but we spent all of 2025 litigating this. Why is almost every interview I see with #tanehisicoates talking about Kamala and Gaza? There's some smoke for Biden and Hillary and others in these interviews, but by an...

People are already priming the pump to blame #jasminecrockett if #jamestalarico loses. That's not right and that's not fair. While I believe that #talarico needs to do more to gain Black voters, I also think that Black voters who aren't feeling him or are on the fence or are mad at how things went down with the primaries need to figure out a way to look at the greater good and go beyond on individ...
