spectral echoes (disquiet0619) 13.11.2023 1:00
Taking a drum sequence, applying a spectral shift on it every bar, and perpetuating the previous state with a tape echo plugin. -- More on this 619th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Beat Accrual (The Assignment: Rebuild a complicated rhythm from scratch), at: https://disquiet.com/0619/ About the Disquiet Junto: https://disquiet.com/junto/ Subscribe to project announcements: https://tinyletter.com/d...
six 09.11.2023 3:12
My response to the Ixi Music Patreon challenge for October: The challenge is to take the melodic theme from John Carpenter's "Halloween" and make something that no longer resembles that theme. PVC pipe slap played using Sonic Charge Synplant. Synplant synth settings learned from a sample by LloydEvans09 (https://freesound.org/people/LloydEvans09/sounds/321808/) and used in accordence with an Attri...
inspired by cabbage trees (disquiet0618) 06.11.2023 2:48
Having failed to find anything but football results for the city of my birth on my birthdate, I looked to my adoptive country for the same day, and came across an article in the Christchurch Press, which I found interesting. The article describes Mrs Vivian Lynn's art, inspired by cabbage trees and Pacific coastlines. I was particularly taken by the quote that "too often, art lovers are confused a...

do not listen to this (disquiet0615) 15.10.2023 0:48
An attempt to get all those messy low-mid resonances to be the centrepiece.
ceci ne sont pas des tuyaux (disquiet0612) 25.09.2023 2:10
Five recordings of a Pigments patch, simulating the sound of slapping the end of a PVC pipe. Each recorded at a different tempo. Each played through various effects, with automated delay, panning and width. -- More on this 612th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Drum Vector (The Assignment: Walk the listener through variations on the same percussive instrument), at: https://disquiet.com/0612/ Thanks...
gwrandewch (disquiet0611) 18.09.2023 5:40
A self-generating patch on semi-modular and modular and sent through a spring reverb before being recorded into Ableton. There, the 'melody' was converted to MIDI using Ableton's built-in converter. Both them melody and MIDI were then played at half-speed. The melody was forced into the Lydian mode, and played with Reason Studios' Objekt. At the same time, Objekt was being resonated by the origina...

powell street (disquiet0608) 28.08.2023 1:11
I transcribed a recording of the Powell Street BART station in San Francisco, I made in 2008, using MacWhisper. The resulting transcript was as follows: [BLANK_AUDIO] (crowd cheering) (crowd cheering) [MUSIC] [Sound Effects] -- More on this 608th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Nature-to-Text (The Assignment: Using a speech-to-text tool, turn a field recording into instructions for a composition),...
swarm 20.08.2023 4:00
Response to Ixi's Patreon challenge for July. The track must include a drone.
semi-silenzio (disquiet0607) 20.08.2023 1:36
I went down the rabbit hole of making a Max for Live device to allow a pulse wave to modulate the signal over a given interval with a percentage of silence. The device also incorporates a model of a vactrol to slightly ramp the pulse wave to prevent clicking. I automated the percentage of silence between 60% and 100%. Drone and melody both provided by Arturia Pigments. -- More on this 607th weekly...
quart (disquiet0606) 14.08.2023 5:01
Couldn't pass up using Ableton's TR-606 drum kit. Added to that is a Foil 2 FM synth, a XILS4 generating square waves, and my own DI bass, along with some noise from AudioThing's Noises. I chose to manually automate the quarter of the time with sound, despite spending a rather ridiculous amount of time messing with a Max for Live effect to achieve similar ends. -- More on this 606th weekly Disquie...
broken zip (disquiet0605) 07.08.2023 1:38
Passed an instrumental track through a variable gate. The gate's frequency varies during the track, with the aim of being closed 50% of the time. -- More on this 605th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Fifty Fifty (Compose a piece of music with as much silence as notes), at: https://disquiet.com/0605/ Thanks to Jason Richardson for having proposed this week’s project. aloft in translation (disquiet0604) 30.07.2023 4:40
Passing last week's Disquiet Junto track through Ableton's vocoder, being used as a spectral gate, with a carrier based on a Photosounder wav file created from a cloud photograph. -- More on this 604th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Heaven’s Gate (The Assignment: Use a picture of the clouds as a plan for adjusting your sound), at: https://disquiet.com/0604/ About the Disquiet Junto: Disquiet Junto...

gestalt (disquiet0602) 16.07.2023 3:41
I chose "gestalt" as my word for this challenge; the idea of the whole being more than the sum of its parts. Three Sampleson Meta Pianos playing the same melody, only the first plays the melody over 4 bars, the second plays the same melody but over 3 bars, and the third plays it over 2.5 bars. As the rounds continue an echo and reverb are brought to bear. -- More on this 602nd weekly Disquiet Junt...

332151 (disquiet0601) 09.07.2023 1:16
I created a chord progression, then recorded six different arpeggios using the Klevgränd Tomophon plugin. Then, I wrote a Python script to generate six random integers between 1 and 6. These were used to gate the six tracks where 1 indicted a gate every beat, 2: one very second beat two beats long, 3: one very third beat three beats long, etc. Where two numbers came up the same, the starting point...
DC Freighter ft Marcus Fischer (disquiet0600) 03.07.2023 2:07
Entirely constructed from the stems provided by Marcus Fischer. Various sequences were created with HY-Slicer 2 and mixed into one of Marcus' stems, along with various reverb and granular effects. -- More on this 600th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Reaching Out (The Assignment: This is a shared sample project. Rework a set of seven WAV files provided by Marcus Fischer), at: https://disquiet.com/0...
out of tine 01.07.2023 2:58
Klevgränd Speldosa backed up by Softube Monoment, and Reason Objekt (making this particularly Swedish). Oh, and there's an KORG M1 bouzouki hidden in there, too.
