6 fifths (disquiet0654) 16.07.2024

I took Franziska Baumann's score and chose to read it left-to-right, top-to-bottom. However, I restricted myself to the first row of seven ideograms, mostly due to time constraints. I took each and transcribed the notes into Ableton and considered each to represent a bar. I then repeated the sequence six times with various instruments. I interpreted the smudges as harmonic distortion.

broken (disquiet0653) 09.07.2024

I pretty much broke the rules by not making a list, then braking more than one rule: I made a piece that I felt broke a lot of my usual patching "rules" on the modular; made then broke a rule about not adding effects in the DAW; then added reverb; then uploaded late… -- More on the 653rd weekly Disquiet Junto project, Break a Rule — The Assignment: Stop doing something you always do — at https://d...

indeterminant (disquiet0651) 24.06.2024

Experimentation with Bitwig's FX Grid, processing a Harmony Bloom generated sequence with various randomisers, such as dice, sample and hold, and logical arithmetic based on several channels of source. The result was then further modified with Infiltrator 2, and Sampleson's Haptic Perc, and Xils-Lab La Palme.

punch drunk (disquiet0648) 04.06.2024

Harmony Bloom generating a sequence into Baby Audio Atoms, with a delayed fuzz send. -- More on the 648th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Shadow Boxing — The Assignment: Employ shadow boxing as a musical metaphor — at https://disquiet.com/0648/

drone (disquiet0647) 27.05.2024

Two drones combined. One created with Sampleson Scaper, and the other from FullBlotter's processing of the first drone. -- More on the 647th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Day Drone — The Assignment: Make some daylight drones for Drone Day — at https://disquiet.com/0647/

never mind the lyrics (disquiet0646) 20.05.2024

When all there's left is the bouncing ball. I wondered what would happen if the bouncing ball was all that was left, and what it might get up to when left to its own devices. -- More on the 646th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Empty Orchestra — The Assignment: Interpret the literal translation of “karaoke” — at Disquiet Junto Project 0646: Empty Orchestra – Disquiet

v over 2 (disquiet0645) 13.05.2024

Experimenting with Harmony-Bloom. First track halved in speed, then added to again with Harmony-Bloom and some heavily processed percussion. -- More on the 645th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Speed Trap — The Assignment: Record something, slow it down, and then record over it — at https://disquiet.com/0645/

y garreg (disquiet0643) 29.04.2024

The stone (y garreg), aging. -- More on the 643rd weekly Disquiet Junto project, Stone Out of Focus — The Assignment: Make music inspired by a poem — at https://disquiet.com/0643/ This week’s project is based on a text by Yoko Ono, originally published in her book Grapefruit 60 years ago, back in 1964.

sugar-free (disquiet0642) 22.04.2024

A "techno" track with all sounds coming from the sound of bubbles in an open can of lemonade. -- More on the 642nd weekly Disquiet Junto project, Kick from Champagne — The Assignment: Use carbonation to make a beat — at https://disquiet.com/0642/

cavernous (disquiet0637) 19.03.2024

ring (disquiet0635) 04.03.2024

I bookended Todd (@toaster-1) Elliott's shorter rail crossing recording with percussion and drums, then added a chord progression. andiamo a voce (disquiet0633) 19.02.2024

I replaced the instrumental parts of a track I completed for ixi Music's Patreon Challenge, in January (https://soundcloud.com/wasabicube/andiamo?si=c1d963b8e5ba48eab5ccaf512118e147&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing), with samples of my voice saying "Disquiet Junto, number six hundred and thirty-three". The only original track is a field recording of the voice of ice...

andiamo 17.02.2024

This is a mix of a track I created for ixi Music's January Patreon challenge. The challenge was to use a specific chord, comprising of a perfect fifth plus a minor third. So, if C was the root, the chord would be C, G, and B♭. Another part of the challenge was to not write in the key of C. I chose D as the root, and based the entire tune around the three notes (across several octaves).

shear (disquiet0632) 12.02.2024

Two Arturia KORG MS-20 V, and an Arturia ARP2600 V3, processing two recordings made in the airstream of a circulation fan. The wind noise both contributes to the output sound, but also is used to trigger envelopes and, in the case of the MS-20s, follow the envelope of the recordings. The ARP2600 is responsible for the Morse code-like sounds. -- More on this 632nd weekly Disquiet Junto project, She...

slow dance (disquiet0631) 05.02.2024

Harmonic drone modulated by a resonant low-pass filter and ring modulators, then PaulStretched to half-speed. -- More on this 631st weekly Disquiet Junto project, In a Silent Waveform — The Assignment: Take one held tone and make it dance slowly — at: https://disquiet.com/0631/ About the Disquiet Junto: https://disquiet.com/junto/ Subscribe to project announcements: https://tinyletter.com/disquiet...

discombobulate (disquiet0629) 22.01.2024

I used zplane's PEEL to divide the frequency and panning into nine, then randomly played the nice parts before concluding with the original recording. The track was composed for Ixi Music's December Patreon Challenge, and inspired by a sample of hers. -- More on this 629th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Jigsaw Logic — The Assignment: Break a piece of your music and put it back together again — at:...

separation anxiety (disquiet0628) 15.01.2024

mia (disquiet0623) 11.12.2023

I recorded a track, then played it through a Bluetooth receiver at the limit of its transmission range. I also recorded the EMF around the receiver, while playing the same track at distance. The three tracks were merged, using vocoders, and AudioThing's Motor to help add some musicality to the broken Bluetooth track. -- More on this 623rd weekly Disquiet Junto project, Kinda Bluetooth (The Assignm...

umbra (disquiet0622) 04.12.2023

Here, each voice is put in shadow by its own harmonic filter. The sounds passed through are those that represent the edge, or umbra, that remains once the sound has been largely blocked by the harmonic filter. There are numerous voices that come and go, in addition, the filter lessens as the middle of the track is reached and increases again as the track ends. This represents the sun's travel thro...

muffled (disquiet0621) 27.11.2023

I found a the beginnings of track using Felt Instruments' Helenko, and AudioThing's Noises as a drone. I added some muted piano with Felt Instruments' Lekko, and an additional drone with Arturia's Augmented Strings and TAL's Sampler. -- More on this 621st weekly Disquiet Junto project, The Leftovers (The Assignment: Use recently discarded material to make something new), at: https://disquiet.com/0...

follower ft. x_i_i_i_x_x_i (disquiet0620) 20.11.2023
