room (disquiet0598) 19.06.2023 1:46
I recorded the ambience in my office/home studio with seven different microphones. During some of the recordings there was reasonably heavy rain outside. I then loaded the recordings into HY-Plugins' HY-Slicer 2 and recorded a several tracks amounting to the noise of the room. I increased the gain slightly on these and then recorded some passages. These were then sent to my modular where they were...

never alone remix (disquiet0594) ft glitcher + sinny + kjoule 22.05.2023 4:16
A remix of @user-711331258's collaboration with @noodletwister and @sinnysounds for last week's Junto. The track and the reverse of the track were sent to my modular, where the audio was chopped based on varying decay envelopes. Some of the signal was overdriven and some sent though a Wasp filter. The resulting signal was filtered using a SEM filter to remove some of the harsher frequencies. Three...
worm whole (disquiet0593) - krakenkraft + russell-c-shaddox + wasabicube 15.05.2023 3:46
Adding to @rshaddox's addition to @winterer's original. snake eyes (disquiet0592)—with encym 07.05.2023 3:21
I added to @encym's excellent, guitar-based, track, Frugality (https://soundcloud.com/encym/the-loneliest-number-disquiet0591?si=c7a742bc48e04018b5249a736278acdb&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing). I used this as an exercise in MIDI processing in Ableton. I used a MIDI pitch tracker on a filtered version of the original track (to reduce the range of notes), then pass...
electro-bongo (disquiet0591) 30.04.2023 2:23
A sequenced modular patch using the 2HP Pluck as the only voice and passed through a couple of guitar pedals (Digital Delay, then Digital Reverb). There are two KORG SQ-1s providing the sequence. One of seven steps and the other of five. The two CVs are XORed and passed to the V/Oct of the Pluck. Meanwhile, the gate from one SQ-1 is combined with the output of a 2HP Euclid, then passed through a M...
la pluie sonne (disquiet0590) 24.04.2023 1:35
Saturday morning rain fed into the return channel of a Shakti self-feedback module combined with the send pinging a ladder filter. The two outputs from the Shakti are then separately processed. The first is passed through an almost resonating LPG and mixed with the second. These two are mixed with a feedback loop of the two of them through a Wasp filter. The result is passed through a filter bank...
waving at a wasp (disquiet0589) 17.04.2023 3:27
Manual filter control. Normally I would automate the filter frequency. In this track there is a Shakti feedback module generating feedback via a Moog-style ladder filter and a reverb. Then the signal is split into several paths, one of which is passed through a Doepfer Wasp filter. The frequency is modulated by a ultrasound detector and actuated by my hand moving nearer and further away. There is...
tumble (disquiet0588) 10.04.2023 0:38
A recording of a gentle surf mangled through several algorithmic effects (Infiltrator, Dedalus Delay, and Digitalis) along with a drum track and some guitar noodling. The feeling of being tumbled in the surf while a band plays in the distance. -- More on this 588th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Swell Time (The Assignment: Make some surf music), at: https://disquiet.com/0588/ About the Disquiet Ju...
descendre (disquiet0587) 03.04.2023 2:24
Two Arturia Pigments instances, one with various levels of out-of-tuneness are panned back and forth, from left to right, in opposite phase. Meanwhile, a bass pluck plays a descending arpeggio and is joined by a KORG M1 bass towards the conclusion of the track. -- More on this 587th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Sour Mash (The Assignment: Let something go out of tune), at: https://disquiet.com/05...
missing (disquiet0586) 27.03.2023 1:38
I recorded three tracks, two based on the same chord sequence and the third using the incomplete track from last week’s prompt. The track I’d created as the basis for last week’s prompt, that I missed, ironically, due to time pressure, used VLC, skipping sections rhythmically, then played through a three part looper I made in MaxMSP, which was then fed through my modular to put it through some res...
stepped (disquiet0584) 13.03.2023 4:16
I used to listen to a lot of baroque chamber music. Now I'm partial to drones and noise. (Having said that, this prompt was quite challenging as I like a broad range of genres. But it is true I've not listened to Telemann, Bach or Vivaldi for a while.) -- More on this 584th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Generations (The Assignment: Bridge a gap in your musical taste), at: https://disquiet.com/058...
party wall (disquiet0583) 05.03.2023 2:53
Sometimes, you hear a beat through the wall, then you imagine what tune accompanies it. Reality does not always match my imagination. Here, I recorded a drum track, just kick and snare, through the wall. The mic in the other room picked up cicadas and a cat, outdoors, as well as the thumping beat. The track was then used to generate a series of recordings from my modular synth. I used a variety of...
three-quarter (disquiet0582) 26.02.2023 3:04
Techno in three-four time? Three-quarter techno. thrum (disquiet0581) 20.02.2023 1:41
The original sample by Scott Fletcher (https://soundcloud.com/disquiet/helsinki-downspout - used with permission under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (CC BY-NC-SA 3.0) licence), had an envelope follower applied and sent as CV to my modular, which also sent clock to a BeatStep Pro controlling a Volca Sample. A Turing machine was used to drive a Pluck triggered...
swept (disquiet0580) 13.02.2023 4:00
Various monosynth filter sweeps played against each other and modulated by a couple of Felt Instruments' Smugi sequenced filterbanks. The idea being the sound evolves until it reaches a point of overrunning the system and then extinguishes itself. As I write this, during a second extreme weather event in a matter of days, I can't help thinking of our tenure as a species and the likelihood our evol...
horse (disquiet0578) 30.01.2023 2:20
I was born in the year of the fire horse so I started with a gallop rhythm, with which I created a drumkit and sidechained all the other tracks, whilst removing the drumkit from the recording. The main voices are the Neutron and CZ-1000, with a very simple electric bass riff. Then the usual distortions, gatings and reverbs were applied. --- More on this 578th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Rabbit...
canadian quarters (disquiet0577) 23.01.2023 2:25
Recorded the sounds of shaking, first, two Canadian quarters in an Altoids tin and, later, added two New Zealand twenty cent pieces. I tried to alter the rhythm as I went and then chopped the recording into rhythmical sections. These were then put together in Ableton with some effects including a bit of reverb. -- More on this 577th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Make That Money Shaker (The Assign...
external (disquiet0576) 16.01.2023 2:40
Making more use of my external gear. Although processed in Ableton, all sounds in this track come from the MS-20, Volca Sample and Casio CZ-1000. -- More on this 576th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Casual Resolution (The Assignment: Get a musical New Year’s resolution out of the way), at: https://disquiet.com/0576/ More on the Disquiet Junto at: https://disquiet.com/junto/ Subscribe to project an...

stack ft. mdh (disquiet0573) 26.12.2022 1:06
Adding to the rhythm track (https://soundcloud.com/matthewh538/rhythm-kit-disquiet0572?si=bf671afa266248e9939301d1e114ab3b&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing) by https://soundcloud.com/matthewh538, I layered distorted electric guitar and sparkly Pigments synth. -- More on this 572nd weekly Disquiet Junto project – Rhythm Kit (The Assignment: Make a beat that someone e...
puddle (disquiet0571) 12.12.2022 2:14
Doctor Foster always upset me as a child. I was dismayed that someone would refuse to return somewhere simply because they'd stepped in a puddle. I couldn't fathom the sort of personality that would act in that way. This is my riff on the traditional tune that accompanies the nursery rhyme. I don't really know where I was going with this but I wouldn't let a puddle stop me exploring. Doctor Foster...
