Providence Road Church – Sermons

John's explicit purpose for writing his gospel was that people might believe in Jesus (John 20:31). He spends the introduction of the book hitting on several topics that would help us believe. In this sermon, we take a look at five of these ideas. Bible Text: John 1:1-18 | Preacher: Jeremy Hager

God has ordained rhythms of renewal for His people to remember who He is, what He has done, and to look forward with a renewed hope. We did things a little differently this Sunday. Rather than hearing a sermon preached like we do nearly every other Sunday throughout the year, we had a handful of covenant members come forward and read large portions of Scripture. This sermon is called The History of Redemption, which was originally preached by Ronnie Smith.

John finishes the prologue of his gospel account. He recaps his main argument while also providing further evidence that Jesus is fully God and fully man. No one has seen God, but since the Word became flesh we have now seen his glory through Jesus’ perfect life. He has made Him known and enabled us to live rightly. On our fourth Sunday of advent, we look at the fact that Jesus being our Savior also brings us into God's family. We are his children. On our third Sunday of advent, we explore the fact that the presence of God came in the form of a human and the world did not know him. The Bible says that even God's own people did not recognize Jesus. The Scriptures show us that how we relate to the presence of God is one of, if not the most important aspects of our lives. In our second Sunday of advent, we explore why John in his gospel compares the birth of Jesus to light. The Scriptures show us that light reveals truth and transforms darkness. On our first Sunday of advent, we explore why it's important to slow down this season to remember the first coming of Christ. We wrap up our series The True and Better Story by looking at the second coming of Jesus. The images of the new heavens and new earth in Revelation give us a hope that is found nowhere else. We continue on in the series by looking at God's call of Abraham. God chooses Abram to be God’s instrument of blessing to all nations, apart from who Abram was or how he lived.
