Proverbs shows us the wise person cultivates a lifestyle of self-denial in lesser joys, so he can find greater joy in God.

The wise and diligent work hard with joy for God’s glory. While a life of foolishness is living a life of laziness that produces our own ruin.

The book of Proverbs sets before us two paths and two people — the wise and the fool. In this sermon we look at what each looks like, so we can know what a life shaped by the gospel looks like in practice.

As we embark on a news sermon series in the book of Proverbs, we take a look at the purpose of wisdom in our lives. Wisdom, ultimately, is meant to increase our trust in the Lord. This should shape where we go to for wisdom, how we apply it to our lives, and our zeal to share it with others.

The author of Hebrews shows us that Melchizedek exists in Scripture to show us that Jesus is a great priest-king and no one can take his place. However, we are prone to trust temporary and visible sources of righteousness, peace, and access to God instead of resting in the greater priest-king.

We struggle with trusting God because we look to other things in this world to be our anchor instead of God. In this text the author of Hebrews tells us that because God’s promise is secured by His unchanging character and fulfilled in Christ, we have an anchor of unshakable hope.

To combat spiritual laziness, the author tells us that true believers are to press on to maturity, as God preserves them through warnings, means of grace, and the evidence of fruit.

Because of our sin, we tend to drift toward spiritual laziness, choosing comfort over growth in our relationship with God. However, we see in this passage in Hebrews that God wants HIs people to grow up, moving from Spiritual infancy to practiced maturity.

We are consistently asking the question of how to fix ourselves and the world around us. This text shows us how Jesus, our Great High Priest helps answer these questions through saving and sustaining His people.

Because Jesus is our High Priest, who died and was resurrected, we must hold fast to our faith in Him, and confidently approach His throne of grace.

Today, we celebrate the way God has changed the lives of 15 people through their confessions of faith and baptisms!

The Word of God exposes us in our efforts to justify ourselves, but we can find rest in the person of Jesus.

Because of our tendency towards unbelief, we often hear God's promises yet fail to trust Him enough to enter His rest. Jesus secures the true rest of God and enables us to enter it through faith.

In Hebrews 3:7-19, the author issues a warning reminding us of the story of the wilderness generation and how the faithless do not enter God’s Rest.

Hebrews turns to an Old Testament prophet (Moses) and shows us how Jesus is greater than even him. As the apostle and high priest of our confession sent by God, Jesus has no rival. Holding fast to Jesus and enduring to the end is possible because He is first holding onto us.

Humanity stood helpless—facing suffering, sin, temptation, and even death itself. And the Son of God did something astonishing: He did not rescue us from a distance. Jesus became fully human so that He could stand with us in three ways…as our Brother, as our Deliverer, and as our High Priest.

We live in the "already, but not yet" time period of history. Our reality in this world is often one of frustration, but if we set our eyes on Jesus we begin to see another plot line play out in our story.

In light of who Jesus is, the author of Hebrews challenges us to devote attention to Jesus or face drifting away from Him.

We are prone to put other things above Jesus in importance. The Jewish Christians of the first century were tempted to put angels above Jesus in importance. The author of Hebrews compares Jesus to angels, showing as great as angels are, they don't compare to Jesus.

We begin this series on Hebrews by looking at the author of Hebrews intro the book by telling us that Jesus is better. He then gives us a list of massive qualities about Jesus that make Him better.
