Health EN ↓ 328 episodes

Throughout my training and practice as a physician I have come to one very disappointing conclusion: Western medicine isn’t helping people lead better lives. Now that I’ve realized this, I’ve become obsessed with understanding what makes us healthy or ill. I want to live the best life I can and I want to be able to share this knowledge with others so that they can do the same. This podcast is the result of my relentless search to understand the roots of chronic disease. I hope you’ll join me on this journey.

Controversial Thoughts: Why the ancient Egyptians really got fat and sick 20.08.2021

Was it carbs? Aliens? Or something else...   I love these historical detective stories!    Looking back at what we know of the last 5 thousand years, the ancient Egyptians appear to have suffered from many of the chronic diseases we see today, yet they didn't have processed foods like donuts, cakes, cookies, or twinkies...   Most everyone agrees that processed food is at the root of our chronic di...

Controversial Thoughts: Is Carnivore MD an Omnivore? 13.08.2021

The debate between plant-based and animal-based eating was over 2 million years ago with the extinction of Paranthropus robustus...   Hear this story and a bit of mine in this week's edition of Controversial Thoughts, my Friday rant/monologue podcast on Fundamental Health.   The simple takeaway here is that 75% of omnivorous species lean heavily toward either plant or animal consumption as the maj...

Controversial Thoughts: Is Fructose something to fear? 06.08.2021

I ate bananas with my steak and liver after I filmed this! Lots of people love to hate on fructose, but is this molecule really harmful for humans when found in fruit and honey? You know, foods that we've been eating for millions of years and foods that the Hadza and other hunter/gatherer groups around the world LOVE and seek out? Find out in this week's episode of Controversial Thoughts! Cleansed...

Harvard did a 75 year study of men looking at factors correlating with health. What was the greatest predictor? Community! The first ever #animalbased gathering just wrapped up here in Costa Rica, and I couldn't NOT talk about it in this week's edition of Controversial Thoughts! It would be a huge understatement to say that the gathering was a success, it was simply incredible. Having nearly 100 p...

118. Will eating too much meat harm your kidneys? 23.07.2021

This one is easy, the answer is no!    In this week's controversial thoughts video I break this down and provide multiple interventional studies that corroborate my position.   Diets up to 3.3g/kg have been studied and do not show any adverse events on kidney function. Why would they?    We know from the anthropology literature that hunter-gatherer groups like the Hadza (who I visited earlier this...

Controversial Thoughts: What I think about mushrooms, olive oil, and avocado oil 16.07.2021

Both plants and fungi are stuck in the ground and can't move and both have developed defense chemicals to protect themselves from predation. 99.5% of animals are edible Only 20-30% of plants are edible And only 20-30% of mushrooms are edible Listen to the video for more detailed information here but this is the take-away: mushrooms are survival food and I'm not convinced they have unique benefits...

114. If our words can be censored are we really free? 02.07.2021

In this week's episode of Controversial Thoughts I wanted to rant a bit about freedom and censorship as we approach July 4th. According to Dr. Fauci, we can do whatever we want on the 4th of July if we are vaccinated, but does that mean we can talk about potential downsides of the vaccine? What about ivermectin? How about diet and nutrition and the role metabolic health plays in the course of COVI...

The last time I did a video about toothpaste it got censored! Damn big toothpaste ruining the party... JK...
