Paul Saladino, MD
Paul Saladino MD podcast
Throughout my training and practice as a physician I have come to one very disappointing conclusion: Western medicine isn’t helping people lead better lives. Now that I’ve realized this, I’ve become obsessed with understanding what makes us healthy or ill. I want to live the best life I can and I want to be able to share this knowledge with others so that they can do the same. This podcast is the result of my relentless search to understand the roots of chronic disease. I hope you’ll join me on this journey.

If this is confusing you may want to start with the first episode Peter and I did, all of which are at heartandsoil.co. Petro Dobromylskyj is a veterinarian, trained at the RVC, London University. Controversial Thoughts - BONUS 21.11.2020 9:40
If you missed yesterday's controversial thoughts podcast/video, you might also want to check that one out. I had a few ideas I wanted to discuss on COVID after I finished recording and knew I had to do another. The concept of "long COVID" is increasingly discussed today, but I'm not convinced this is anything new. First, it was "healthy" people (sadly) suffering from COVID who were obese or likely...
Controversial Thoughts: Why isn't the media talking about metabolic health? And Welcome to Hogwarts. 20.11.2020 26:07
If you are curious about connections between metabolic dysfunction and the strength of your immune system but don't have time to listen to this video you disappoint me! 🤣 JK! But you should listen to this one and share it with someone in your life who is obese (and likely pre-diabetic) who doesn't think they are at risk of a bad COVID outcome, or maybe they are terrified but don't know what they...
79. Crucial COVID update with Ivor Cummins. Is the hysteria warranted? 16.11.2020 2:01:08
This podcast will likely be censored on YouTube, but the video will be available at heartandsoil.co if this happens. We are only presenting facts in this podcast, but we’ll see what sort of nonsense the “fact checkers” come up with. This is the second podcast I have done with Ivor on COVID. We’ve also done a podcast on LDL and cholesterol. All of these can be found under the “learn” tab at hearta...
Controversial Thoughts: Which Plants are Most/Least Toxic? 13.11.2020 17:11
Last week’s Controversial Thoughts was on The Carnivore Diet for Beginners. This week, I wanted to discuss the spectrum of plant toxicity a bit more. Thinking about this from the perspective of plants makes it a whole lot easier. Plants don’t want their seeds (nuts, grains, seeds, legumes), leaves, stems, or roots eaten. Avoid these foods while focusing on the least toxic parts of plants (fruit- s...

Part 1 of “Is a Carnivore Diet the Real Paleo Diet” is my friendly debate with Loren Cordain et al., which can be found here . Nora Gedgaudas is a widely recognized expert on the “Paleo diet”. She maintains a private practice in Portland, Oregon as both a Bo...
Controversial Thoughts: The Carnivore Diet for Beginners 06.11.2020 13:04
Most of my podcasts are pretty detailed and technical. I wanted to do a high level discussion of how to think about a Carnivore Diet and how to get started with this. There’s lots more info about this at heartandsoil.co on the about us page. The basics, eat well raised animal foods from nose to tail including organs and connective tissue. You can include less toxic plant foods if you’d like to dep...

Controversial Thoughts: Why Epidemiology Is So Misleading and more on PUFA. 30.10.2020 35:13
The number of ways that observational epidemiology is misinterpreted never ceases to amaze me. I wanted to make a video about this and truly explain in detail healthy user bias and unhealthy user bias, as well as why these two things can be such fatal confounders in this type of study. By contrasting epidemiology from the West and East, this becomes more apparent, and studies done on the UK cohort...

Controversial Thoughts: When high cholesterol is GOOD! 23.10.2020 27:05
Is high cholesterol always a bad thing? I say no! Context matters greatly here, as in are you metabolically healthy? Do you know how to assay this? Many people eating an ancestral type diet like carnivore, carnivore-ish, keto, paleo, etc. (like me!) will see LDL rise, but I don't believe this is a bad thing if we are insulin sensitive/metabolically healthy- this is the importance of context. I di...

Controversial Thoughts: Hunter-gatherers don’t like fiber! 18.09.2020 33:07
Do the Hadza really consume 100g of fiber per day? Do we really know what a healthy gut microbiome is? Doubt it! When asked to rank their preferences for food (their diets are essentially meat, honey, berries, baobab fruit, and tubers) they consistently rank honey as their favorite and tubers last! In this video, I break down a number of articles looking at how the Hadza eat, their predilection fo...

Controversial Thoughts: What’s the deal with Stearic Acid- Magical or Hype? 11.09.2020 23:20
Stearic acid is an 18 carbon saturated fat that has intriguing effects on the human body. It's been shown to positively affect mitochondrial activity, and diets that are low in cause mitochondria to change activity and phenotype in negative ways. Mouse models of this fatty acid also suggest some profoundly powerful effects on glucose tolerance and visceral fat when compared to oleic acid (18C mono...
