Highs stay in the single digits and teens for a chilly first weekend of the new year, with lows dropping well below zero with a chance for snow sliding through the Northland.

Rain looks likely for a good portion of the region for Friday and Saturday before temperatures start to cool down.

A few brief rounds of snow look possible, but overall it looks to be a mostly quiet weekend across the Northland.

Lakes in the region are starting to ice over and anglers are starting to venture out. Chad Koel talks with Dave Wasness and Chad Maloy about ice safety and getting the best bite.

Temperatures do become more mild the the cold temperatures we had midweek, but chances for snow will bookend the weekend for parts of the Northland.

A gentle southwest breeze will bring in a few warmer days, but we are keeping an eye for snow returning by the end of Sunday night.

Saturday looks to be the calm day for the weekend, but by Sunday, parts of the Northland will have another round of light snow moving on through.

Showers will slide across the northern portions of the region this weekend, with winds picking up for Saturday and Sunday.

Temperatures stay in the 40s and 50s for most of the Northland this weekend, and by Sunday much of the region will be looking at a chance for showers.

Cloudy skies linger about the region this weekend, but temperatures will stay nice, ranging from seasonable to mild depending on the day.

Some showers will slide through the Northland Friday and Saturday, but the clouds give way to more sunshine and mild weather by Saturday evening.

Temperatures feel much more seasonable this weekend with some clouds and a bit of a breeze on both days this weekend.

We start October on a very windy note, thanks to a low pressure system located in southern Canada. Saturday kicks off with strong winds in the western Dakotas, moving to the eastern part of the tri-state region later in the day. The strong west wind could see some areas with gusts up to 50 mph in North Dakota.

The sunshine and well above average temperatures will coast into the final weekend of September. Saturday brings a near picture perfect day, with plenty of sunshine and light winds in the region. Sunday brings similar conditions in terms of sunshine for most of the day.

While some will stay warm for Saturday, much of the Northland is getting a taste of fall this weekend. Saturday we are tracking a cold front moving on through the region, which after bringing a chance for showers to northwest Minnesota Friday night, it will continue to bring rain chances further to the southeast on Saturday.  

Wrapping up the week on Friday will bring a chance of rain for portions of the Northland. For Friday night, the best chance for rain will be across northern Minnesota into the Red River Valley as a cold front moves on through. By Saturday, the chances for rain across northern Minnesota dwindle down, however we could still see more showers popping up across central and southern Minnesota by Saturda...

Dry weather looks to continue across much of the region this weekend, as we are still seeing fall-like temperatures after the cold front pushed through the Northland in the middle of the week.

Another warm front will lift through the region on Friday, raising the dial for temperatures and humidity as we head into the weekend. Highs on Saturday will largely be in the 80s, with some 90s in southwestern locations, as skies look partly to mostly sunny. Sunday is warm but with a change late in the day as precipitation chances increase in the west.
