I Know a Guy Podcast

Religion EN ↓ 162 episodes

Every man knows a guy. The one who looks fine on the outside but is falling apart inside. Angry. Numb. Distant. I know that guy too - because that guy was me. Every man needs a guy who gets it. You’re not the only one holding it together by a thread. I’m Steve Cummings, and this is I Know a Guy - conversations for men who are done pretending. It’s not content for content’s sake. It’s the entry point for men who would never fill out a form for mentoring or walk into a small group cold. It’s an open door to honesty - the voice before the visit.

Ep. 110 - The Silent Killer in Men: Resentment 01.05.2026

Resentment is one of the most dangerous emotions a man can carry. It doesn’t explode overnight. It builds slowly… quietly… over years. And if a man doesn’t know what to do with it, resentment eventually comes out sideways. Porn. Affairs. Emotional shutdown. In this episode of I Know A Guy, we talk about why resentment is toxic for men—and how ignoring it can eventually destroy your marriage and yo...

Ep. 109 - Tested, Refined, and Made Whole - Part 6 30.04.2026

Most men assume that if they’re walking with God, life should smooth out. But Scripture says trials are part of growth. Anxiety may not be proof you’re failing. It may be proof you’re being refined. In this final episode of our anxiety series on I Know a Guy, we talk about testing, endurance, and why your calling is greater than your comfort. If you’re tired of feeling like your anxiety disqualifi...

Ep. 108 - Contentment in an ‘If Only’ World - Part 5 29.04.2026

Anxiety loves two words: “If only.” If only I had more. If only this changed. If only I felt different. But the “if only” life never ends — because as soon as one thing improves, another fear takes its place. In Episode 5 of our series on anxiety on I Know a Guy, we talk about contentment — not passive, not lazy — but anchored. Rooted. Stable. Peace that doesn’t move every time your circumstances...

Ep. 107 - Healing While You Walk - Part 4 28.04.2026

If you struggle with anxiety, you probably want peace before you move. Calm before you obey. Relief before you take the next step. But in Luke 17, ten lepers cried out to Jesus — and He healed them as they went. That’s the picture: healing while you walk. In Episode 4 of our series on anxiety, we talk about what it looks like to take your next step with a racing heart — not pretending you’re fine,...

Ep. 106 - Humility in the Middle of the Storm - Part 3 27.04.2026

Anxiety and humility are more connected than we think. Sometimes what feels like responsibility… is actually control. And what feels like strength… is quiet pride. If you’re exhausted from carrying what was never yours to carry… Today's episode of I Know a Guy will hit home. We talk about how humility becomes freedom, how the enemy uses anxiety to isolate men, and why casting your burdens on God i...

Ep. 105 - When You Can’t Stay Neutral - Part 2 24.04.2026

You cannot stay neutral with anxiety. If you don’t intentionally anchor yourself, you will drift — either into panic or into numbness. Some men explode. Some men disappear Both are fear in disguise. In Episode 2 of our anxiety series, we talk about why neutrality is a myth and how prayer becomes warfare — not passive, not weak — but a decisive move away from fear’s rule. If you’re tired of riding...

Ep. 104 - Is My Anxiety Mental or Spiritual? - Part 1 23.04.2026

Men don’t usually say, “I’m anxious.” We say we’re tired. Frustrated. Overwhelmed. Short-tempered. But anxiety isn’t just in your head — and it’s not just a spiritual failure either. You are a body and a soul. And when anxiety hits, it touches both. In this first episode of our 6-part series on I Know a Guy, we’re unpacking why men handle anxiety wrong — and how the gospel brings clarity instead o...

Ep. 103 - What Are You REALLY Feeling? Part 3: Safe Men Save Men 22.04.2026

You cannot heal in isolation. Shame thrives in secrecy — but it loses power when you risk honesty with safe men. In this final episode of this 3-part series "What Are You REALLY Feeling?" we talk about what safe brotherhood actually looks like and why healing requires vulnerability, not performance. If you’re ready to stop fighting alone and build real connection — text “Hey Steve” to 714-742-9625...

Ep. 102 - What Are You REALLY Feeling? - Part 2: The Secret Relief Strategy 21.04.2026

Men don’t chase pleasure. We chase relief. And if you’ve ever wondered why you keep reaching for drinking, porn, isolation, or overworking — it may not be addiction to pleasure. It may be unprocessed shame. In this episode of I Know a Guy, we talk about why men numb instead of connect — and how real healing begins when you risk being honest with safe men. If you’re tired of white-knuckling behavio...

Ep. 101 - What Are You REALLY Feeling - Part 1: You're Not Angry - You're Ashamed 20.04.2026

You don’t have an anger problem. You have a shame problem. Most men were never taught how to name insecurity, fear, inadequacy, or helplessness — so we translate everything into anger. But anger is just the surface. Underneath it is a man who wants relief. And if you don’t process those feelings, you’ll medicate them. In this episode of I Know a Guy, we begin peeling back the layers and exposing t...

Ep. 100 - When the Father Gives Better Desires 17.04.2026

When a man releases his expectations to God, something surprising happens. God doesn't leave him empty. He begins planting new desires. Desires for depth. Integrity. Peace. Purpose. Psalm 37:4 isn't about God granting our wish list. It's about the Father transforming our hearts so that what we desire becomes aligned with who we really are. And when that happens, life stops feeling like pressure. I...

Ep. 99 - The Expectations We Secretly Carry 16.04.2026

Every man has a vision of the life he thought he would live. Some of those dreams were good. Some were shaped by fear, comparison, or the need to prove something. But somewhere along the way, many of us attach our identity to whether those expectations come true. When they don't, we feel disappointment, frustration, and sometimes quiet resentment toward God. Today on I Know a Guy, we look at how P...

Ep. 98 - The Strength of a Sensitive Man 15.04.2026

Some men lead with strength. Others lead with presence. Highly sensitive men often carry an incredible ability to understand people’s hearts — but many spend years thinking something is wrong with them. In this episode of I Know a Guy, we talk about how emotional sensitivity can actually become a powerful strength when it’s rooted in identity. Because when a man knows he is a beloved son of the Fa...

Ep. 97 - Too Sensitive to Be a Man? 14.04.2026

Some men struggle to express emotions. But other men feel everything. They notice tension quickly. They feel other people’s pain deeply. They process life with intense emotional awareness. Psychologists call this being a Highly Sensitive Person, and about 20–30% of people are wired this way. But when you’re a man, that sensitivity can feel like a flaw in a world that celebrates toughness. The trut...

Ep. 96 - Be the Buffalo 13.04.2026

When pressure rises, most men do what cows do — they run with the storm. They avoid. They numb. They delay hard conversations. They wait for it to pass. But buffalo do something different. They lower their heads and charge straight into it — because instinctively they know the fastest way out is through. In today's episode of I Know a Guy, we’re talking about storms — marriage storms, financial st...

Ep. 95 - “What You Don’t Process, You Medicate.” — From Leakage to Freedom 10.04.2026

Addiction isn’t always rebellion. Sometimes it’s anesthesia. Men medicate what they were never allowed to grieve. But willpower doesn’t break cycles. Honesty does. Today on I Know a Guy, we talk about leakage, shame, and how freedom begins in the light. And if you’re ready to stop managing what can be healed — Text “Hey Steve” to 714-742-9625.  I've been there.  I know a guy. Let’s talk about 1:1...

Ep. 94 - “It Didn’t Affect Me.” — The Danger of Denial 09.04.2026

Most men don’t think they have trauma. They think they have stress. They think they have personality quirks. They think they’re just wired that way. But what if some of your strongest reactions aren’t personality — they’re protection? Today on I Know a Guy we talk about denial — the quiet survival response that keeps men functional but not free. And if something in you knows there’s more under the...

Ep. 93 - Wealth as Identity 08.04.2026

There’s a story in the Gospels about a wealthy, disciplined, morally upright young man who asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. He kept the commandments. He had influence. He had success. And yet he walked away sad. In this episode of I Know a Guy, we unpack why wealth can quietly become our identity — and how financial success can train us to live independent of God. This is a conv...

Ep. 92 - The American Dream vs. The Father's Dream 07.04.2026

Is wealth the goal… or is freedom the goal? In Episode 2 of this series on I Know a Guy on "Money, Identity & the Quiet Idol," we confront the subtle theology of the American Dream — max the 401K, retire comfortably, and finally relax. But what if you’re chasing financial peace instead of relational peace with your Father? We unpack Jesus’ story of the rich fool, Paul’s secret of contentment,...

Ep. 91 - When Provision Becomes Performance 06.04.2026

Why do some men work incredibly hard and see financial fruit… while others grind and nothing seems to move? Is financial blessing proof that God is pleased? Is financial struggle proof that He isn’t? In this episode of "I Know a Guy," we expose the subtle lie that money equals identity — whether it’s dressed up as prosperity gospel or the American Dream. You’ll learn the difference between working...

Ep. 90 - Daniel Series Part 3: Faithful Over Time 03.04.2026

Daniel didn’t end up in the lions’ den because he failed. He ended up there because he stayed consistent. On this episode of I Know a Guy we see how Daniel 6 tells us he prayed “as he had done before.” No panic. No scrambling. Just steady faithfulness. The greatest threat to men isn’t persecution — it’s drift. Drift into compromise. Drift into performance. Drift into reacting instead of remaining...

Ep. 89 - Daniel Series Part 2: Identity in the Fire 02.04.2026

There is a moment in a man's life that we all eventually face — when obedience costs something. Today on I Know a Guy we see what happened to Daniel when he faced this moment. The music plays. Everyone bows. Three men remain standing. And what they say changes everything: “Our God is able to deliver us… but even if He does not…” That’s identity. Not obedience based on outcomes. Not faith built on...

Ep. 88 - Daniel Series Part 1: Resolved Before the Test 01.04.2026

Before Daniel ever faced a furnace or a lions’ den, he faced something much quieter — a decision. Today on I Know a Guy we start a 3-part series on Daniel.  Daniel 1 isn’t about food. It’s about formation. When everything familiar was stripped away — his home, his culture, even his name — Daniel resolved who he was before the pressure increased. Most men don’t lose their identity in dramatic momen...

Ep. 87 - You Don’t Have to Be Right to Love Well 31.03.2026

What do you do when you strongly disagree with someone—but still want to love them well? Most men think they have two options: stay quiet or prove their point. But what if both miss the mark? In today’s episode of I Know a Guy, we talk about how real strength isn’t found in winning arguments—it’s found in knowing who you are. When your identity is secure, you don’t need to be right. You’re free to...

Ep. 86 - Be Still: When It Finally Stops Depending on You 30.03.2026

What happens when everything goes quiet?  No phone.  No talking. No distractions. I just spent 48 hours in silence at a monastery… and what surfaced surprised me. I realized I was still carrying something I thought I had surrendered— the belief that it all depends on me. My success. My provision. Even the fruit of this ministry. And it was stealing my peace. In this episode of I Know a Guy, I’m sh...
