Sailing in the direction of Greenland, the Vikings are caught in a devastating storm and struggle to save their ship and crew. When the storm finally passes and dawn arrives, they find themselves off course and approaching the coast of a new land. The trees match those of Umlaut’s dream, as well as the natives who promptly introduce themselves with arrows.    

Reaching Iceland, Thor and Umlaut come upon a settlement and receive a heroes’ welcome. Together with Kari’s brothers and Brother Brendan, the Vikings are sent on a quest by the village leader Ingolfur to kill a monster in its mountain lair. Facing their greatest challenge yet, some of the warriors choose to die in battle, while others choose to flee in defeat.

After an ancient cataclysm created the Creeping Ruin, a vine that overtook the man-made world, the only thing left untouched is the Hammer of the Earth, a massive train carrying ten thousand inhabitants per carriage. After having bested a pack of hired thugs on the way to speak with Hester, Ludwig and Dagobert reach the crone’s hut, just outside of the village. She agrees to tell them what she knows about The Beast if they pass three trials. On the third trial, the vagabonds find themselves fighting for their lives high upon a clifftop, where desperate times call for desperate measures.
