As the next generation, David had a covenant friendship that moved him towards the purpose of God.

Peter and the other disciples experienced Christ's ministry first (ie. Luke 5:1-11) before they were commissioned to witness for Him together. We are not only recipients of His grace but also witnesses of it to the world.
