Truth to Live By

The name Zephaniah means protected by God.  The book was written during the reign of King Josiah.  Zephaniah was considered a contemporary of Habakkuk.

This book announces the destruction of Nineveh, the capital of the Assyrian Empire.  It reveals God as slow to anger, but He is also just in his judgment.  He will protect the humble and punish the arrogant.

In this book the prophet questions God about as why He allows Judah's sins to continue. He then wonders why God would use an even more wicked nation (Babylon) to punish them. A key phrase of this book is "the just shall live by his faith."  Habakkuk 2:4

The prophet Micah prophecied to both the northern and southern kingdoms of Israel.  His message was against the rich and powerful. Their leaders were taking advantage of the poor and helpless. This book balances warnings of inevitable exile with promises of a future, restored remnant. Micah highlights wthe requirements to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God(Micah 6:8).

We ought to have unity in the church.  In this study of Romans we will see how we should avoid being a stumblingblock.  Instead, we should edify one another in the body of Christ.
