The Bible portrays a life with God that is much more than a message, much more than getting a word from God. My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. (Gal 2:20) And when Christ, who is your life... (Col 3:4) Remain in me, and I will remain in you. (John 15:4) Intrinsically, we think we must try to get near God. We must get a message from Him....

God speaks to people. God speaks to us. We have the mind of Christ. (1 Cor 2:16) It ought to be expected that God will speak to us through our minds. How are we to tell if what we're hearing is from God? This weekend, I'll attempt to answer that question. In preparation, reflect on the times that you believe you heard God. What kinds of things did that voice tell you? What were the characteristics...

Where is God? Is He near or is He far? In Sunday's sermon, we will consider this question, and we will then briefly discuss six ways that God speaks to people. Of those six, most of our time will be spent considering the two most common ways God communicates with us: 1. Through other people.2. Through our minds/our human spirit In preparation, I would encourage you to think about the last time tha...

Inside the tent of meeting, the Lord would speak to Moses face-to-face as one who speaks to a friend." Exodus 33:11. "You are my friends if you do what I command." John 15:14. Is this a description of your relationship with God? We talk often about praying. Many of us see this as prayer to God, but if prayer is the main way we communicate with God is it possible that prayer can become a lifeline t...

At Transformation Church, we gather, grow, and go. You've heard that before, and I'm afraid to tell you, you'll be hearing it again. As I've already mentioned, this is going to be a special Sunday. I encourage you, in preparation for the short sermon, to turn to Luke 24. In verses 44-48, Jesus tells the gathered disciples that all of history and the Old Testament were looking forward expectantly t...

"And the one sitting on the throne said, 'Look, I am making everything new!'" (Revelation 21:5) Read through Revelation 21 and 22. Noticeallthe new - A new heaven, a new earth, a new Jerusalem. "In this new creation, there is no more sorrow, de...

Last weekend, we heard how God, through the power of the Holy Spirit, has given us new life, so that we are now a kingdom of priests. This means it's our calling to help people get near God. We follow the example of Jesus, the high priest who laid down his life for us. This week, we hit one of the hardest, but also one of the best, points in this big story. This event is still in the future, andth...

Josh De Jong Last week, during our Sunday sermon, we closed the Old Testament and opened up the New Testament. We saw that on the first page of the New Testament, Jesus is said to be a descendant of Abraham and a descendant of David. God is faithful. He keeps his promises. Enter Jesus Son of God and Son of Man who would make Abraham's family a blessing to the nations. Here is the One with an etern...

We've talked about several agreements or covenants that God has made with people and now there's a long period without a big agreement. In the meantime, the story of Jonah gives us a bit of a checkup on how it's going. God told Abraham that his children would be a blessing to the whole world! How is that working out? I encourage you to read the story of Jonah in the Bible. It is a short story with...

Abraham's family, the people of Israel, reach the Promised Land, the land of Canaan. They begin to settle the land. God raises up judges among them, rulers that are supposed to help the people focus on God as their King. Nevertheless, sin runs rampant, and by the end of Judges the peole are in a moral quagmire. "In those days, Israel had no king. All the people did whatever seemed right in their o...
