Bob Morrissey
The Healing Club
Houston comedian and visual artist Bob Morrissey interviews his friends. Bob is a US Army combat veteran of the 2003 invasion of Iraq who's worked as a cab driver, book seller, coffee barista, food server and strip club DJ. He is gay. The conversations here are about sex, politics, status anxiety, and pop culture. Every episode is named after a movie which may or may not even be mentioned at all. Bob likes movies, books, music, art, and drama in his life. His friends are mostly other obscure Houston comedians and artists.

Hannibal with Burdy-Robb Lauras 26.03.2024 52:58
Burdy skateboards over to my house to talk about Abraham Lincoln, porn-hub's demise, being single, and friends we both know from standup comedy. Burdy has chill vibes, and never tells lies. He's never deliberately hurt anyone, but he's pulled pranks and told lies every now and then. This one has some big laughs about dreams and hookups and gay people in Houston, where Burdy runs the Bu...
Sweet Dreams with Jordan Brady 20.03.2024 56:01
At one point during the course of the 1985 Patsy Cline biopic starring Jessica Lange and Ed Harris, Patsy Cline tells a guy: "Yeah? Well people in Hell want ice water. That don't mean they get it!" At no point during this podcast do we discuss that movie or that subject or anything else of any value or substance. This is another pointless, silly, stupid podcast with no moral center....
California Split with Trey Campbell 22.02.2024 1:15:51
Trey Campbell talks about standup comedy, sports radio, autism and more. We say nothing about the Robert Altman movie California Split, but we do get to know each other a little bit. I sometimes wonder whether I'm autistic. The spectrum is widening, so maybe I'm within the new range. Who knows? Does it matter? What is life? Learn all this and more on the new Healing Club Podcast.
Smooth Talk with Tess Vergult 15.02.2024 51:15
Tess returns to The Healing Club (the podcast that was almost named YOU THINK YOU'RE BETTER THAN ME?) to discuss our upcoming STASH AND BURN visual art gallery show at Baskets Books and Art: 115 Hyde Park Blvd in Houston, TX. Go there to see the work we have on display through March. This episode was filmed and will be on YouTube. We get into serious philosophical issues regarding freedom and...
Sweet and Lowdown with Mairead Dickinson and Shaun Connolly 06.01.2024 1:07:22
Mairead returns with her husband Shaun Connolly, who makes his first appearance here on The Healing Club. There's an unforgettable story about a school bus plus some talk about survivor guilt, sexual trauma, Woody Allen, Mairead's dad's job, and whether or not Sean Penn is hot. I think Sean Penn was and is a very hot man, but some people disagree. Like and subscribe.
Good Morning Vietnam with Hannah Abney 30.12.2023 59:00
Hanna Abney makes her first appearance on The Healing Club. We have a slick, cool conversation about Houston and beyond in the standup comedy environment we call home. It's a wild ride and a fistful of laughs as we dissect world events and pop culture with insight and empathy. This one is chock full of surprises you will never forget for the rest of your life. Like and subscribe.
Twister with Scabz the Clown and Jacob Calle 20.12.2023 53:55
At some point we discuss the movie TWISTER. Most of this is high energy prank talk. Good vibes. Jacob Calle says that JURY DUTY is the best movie ever made. We all have different opinions. It's a performance. Scabz is a clown. It's a pointless conversation, but infectious fun. If you'd like to get infected by fun, check out this one.
Catch Me If You Can with Kate Vance 07.12.2023 56:44
Kate and I talk comedy, music, movies, dreams, and nightmares on this meandering ramble of language and stories. It's a fun time with a nice message: Kate has a relative who knows someone who got a letter from the real life Frank Abagnale whom Leonardo DiCaprio played so well in the Steven Spielberg classic Catch Me If You Can. Very fun and very good. Like and subscribe.
Heat with Drew Hollway 30.11.2023 53:52
Drew Hollway returns to Houston from Austin to talk to me about suicide and other edgy things. He does wonderful impersonations of Al Pacino and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Also we talk about how scary it is when people conditioned to accept only rejection or humiliation suddenly feel loved, appreciated, and/or desired by the world. We try our best to be inventive and ingenious together without bad vi...
The Bad News Bears with Eddy Aviles 22.11.2023 1:05:38
There is a lot of drunk tension and bitter banter during this episode in which the comedy gets serious. All artifice shatters as we stab each other mercilessly in an attempt to relive terrible moments and learn the real truth about each other. Warning: not a fun one to record, but sometimes those turn out to be the best ones. This is two friends criticizing each other and speaking through conflict...
Priscilla with Albert Deleon 15.11.2023 1:03:18
Albert returns! The podcast returns! We actually talk about the movie! Albert and I went to the movies to see the new Sofia Coppola joint PRISCILLA. We converse over spoilers and scenes we reveal in the context of our little dialogue that encompasses all sorts of subjects: addiction, neuroscience, Bad Bunny, Planes Trains & Automobiles, things that make you go hmmmm... It's a fun little po...
Another Day in Paradise with Drew Haught from Fly Janet 08.10.2023 1:02:29
Musician and raconteur Drew Haught joins The Healing Club for a conversation about his band Fly Janet. We also get into how Bush did 9/11, Covid isn't real and aliens live among us all the time. Plus we revisit some of our favorite memories and experiences from knowing each other for the past ten years in comedy clubs, restaurants and bars. No mention of the movie Another Day in Paradise or th...
Night Moves with Nick Palermo 28.09.2023 56:26
Not a movie podcast about the 1975 mystery/thriller with Gene Hackman and Melanie Griffith. Nick and I talk about what kind of candidacy we'd run together if I ran for president. What I would sound like, what I'd do, why I'd win, and how I'd change everything. I would run a ruthless platform with style and pizazz. I would try to be the new, sexy president for the people. I would br...
The Zero Effect with Bob Morrissey 16.09.2023 46:02
Once again, not a movie podcast. I don't have a guest, so I extemporize alone and go on and on with political theories buttressed by books I've read: DEPRESSION: A PUBLIC FEELING, by Ann Cvetkovich; THE FIRST TYCOON: THE EPIC LIFE OF CORNELIUS VANDERBILT, by T.J. Stiles; INDIGNATION, by Philip Roth; THE PROBLEM OF DEMOCRACY, by Nancy Isenberg and Andrew Burnstein; and CUBA: AN AMERICAN HIS...
Don't Look Back with Grady Pruitt 02.09.2023 1:04:03
Grady Pruitt returns for another great dialogue of discourse and discovery. We forget what we're doing and just flow. It's at least good. At the very least, it's good. Watch for Grady Pruitt's upcoming comedy special on YouTube and Spotify etc. Also check out past guest Tre Tutson's hilarious hour on Spotify: It is called "Bliss-fool." Yesterday I watched the old Bob...
The Long Goodbye with Mackenzie Jewell 21.08.2023 54:53
We spend the entire episode saying goodbye to each other. I bring up that new Barney AI movie and some other things that don't exist. Violence against real people is bad, we determine. We say a lot of things about Ghostrider 2, Frank Henenlotter films, the World Record Podcast, being sexual, Gen-Z speak, Subway Sandwiches, comedy in Houston, and more. Things descend into the horrible realm of...
Knife in the Water with Ku Egenti 02.08.2023 1:04:09
Ku Egenti and I talk about my white privilege and his career as a comedian on this episode. It's a fun ride through our minds as we think about hierarchy and dominance, strategy and intrigue in this gossip-filled chuckle-fest. Ku is one of the best comedians in town and a thoughtful guy with a unique perspective. Love him to death. This one was fun.
Summer School with Matt "Jolly" Rogers 25.07.2023 55:33
We don't talk about Mark Harmon or Kirstie Alley at all on this episode, be we do reminisce over open mic memories. I talk about reading Eudora Welty novels for a long time. I do impressions of some of my drill sergeants from Basic Training. Matt tells funny stories about people we've met at Darwin's Theory on Wednesdays. It gets loud and fun. I'll appear on Friday on The Isaiah Ef...
La Jetee with Cody Greenlee and The Big Picture with Emily Peacock 16.07.2023 1:16:01
I named the first conversation after the 1962 Chris Marker short film from France because Cody and I talk for only about twenty minutes. Then I acknowledge a shoutout on facebook from Jessi Saldana, who listened to the Scotty Peterson episodes of this podcast on his drive to Mexico. Suddenly I read a very dark and disturbing little fluff piece I wrote called "Ratfuck the Results." Ouch....
Groundhog Day with Tess Vergult 04.07.2023 1:04:24
This is a very patriotic episode in keeping with the themes of celebration and support for the United States which I espouse and hold dear. Tess joins me to talk about the movie Groundhog Day and how it relates to our lives in these wonderful, wonderful times. During the intro I read a few selections from Jill Lepore's magnum opus THESE TRUTHS: A HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES. Happy fourth of J...
The Hidden with Hannah Philibert 26.06.2023 53:57
On this one we discuss police officers and movies. We don't talk about the 1987 Kyle MacLachlan horror thriller about what happens when a cop and an FBI agent race for answers after law abiding people suddenly become violent criminals. It's a funny episode about nothing, really. If you like Houston comedy, check this thing out. It's good.
Innerspace with Jordan Brady, Greg Deal, and Sara Deal 21.06.2023 54:02
This episode tackles the biggest issues and important subjects facing the decision makers and power players of our times: what is gay? How is man? Is that weird? Do we even have a future in this populist hellscape of terror and nightmares? Do I sad? No one knows. It's a conversation with no bullshit, only answers. Everything matters. Life is good. Subscribe and report. Tell your friends. This...
The Manchurian Candidate with Joe Hanrahan 14.06.2023 1:04:02
This episode counts down and dresses down all the worst creeps who've ever existed one by one until we get bored. Then we talk about what would happen if we had a time-phone that could help us travel back in time in order to talk to creeps from the past. What would it take for us to change history? Best episode so far. Truly groundbreaking, earth-defying, paradigm-shattering comedy talk from c...
Hard Eight with Emily Peacock 07.06.2023 59:08
This podcast is good because I forget what's going on and just trust that my hilarious guest will be as funny as she always is. First episode since Mrs. Kisses died. I think we do a good job remembering her life and celebrating her character. The house feels lonely without a cat. Don't really remember whatever it is we talked about after that. Go and check it out. I remember feeling proud...
River's Edge with Adam Radliff 31.05.2023 50:56
This is a high energy, high octane comedy podcast. We tear it up on this one. Lots of opinions and funny voices and things back and forth. I love the 80's teen crime drama River's Edge, but we don't talk about it. I named this one "River's Edge" because I believe Adam Radliff at some point stole his entire personality from the guy who plays Keanu Reeves' younger "...
