The Gathering Church (Video)

James shows that faith is not passive but active through prayer. When believers face suffering or illness, they are called to seek God and call on the spiritual leaders of the church for prayer. The prayer of faith reflects trust in God’s power to heal and forgive. A praying church becomes a place where God’s grace and restoration are experienced. This sermon teaches that people often add phrases like “I swear” or “I promise” because simple honesty has been weakened by broken promises and lack of integrity. Drawing from Epistle of James 5:12 and Gospel of Matthew 5:33–37, it explains that God calls believers to such deep integrity that a simple “yes” or “no” is trustworthy without extra oaths. The message warns that careless promises can sl...

Sunday's message centers on the reality of suffering and the tension between life’s “hurry up” seasons of blessing and its painful seasons of waiting. While we readily accept the good from God, we often resist the suffering that slows us down, exposes our weakness, and tests our faith. Drawing from James 5:7–11 and the perseverance of Job, the message calls believers to patient endurance, active t...

When asked, "Will you go to heaven when you die?" Most people will answer in the affirmative. But, when asked why they think so, they often say it is because they are a "good person," which begs the question, "But are you good enough?" The standard for goodness is found in both the Old and the New Testaments. God says, "Be holy because I am holy." This message explores both how far short of that s...

The sermon explains James 5:1–6 as a strong warning that misplaced trust in wealth leads to spiritual danger and coming judgment. The issue is not simply having money, but a heart that hoards, lives in self-indulgence, ignores injustice, and becomes numb to the needs of others. Christians are called to adopt an eternal perspective, remembering earthly possessions are temporary and to instead store...

This message explains that sin is not only the wrong things we do, but also the good things we fail to do when we know we should. Based on James 4:17, choosing silence, comfort, fear, or convenience instead of obedience can be a “sin of omission,” just as real as active wrongdoing. The story of the Good Samaritan shows that ignoring a need, even without harming anyone, is still disobedience to God...

This sermon confronts our tendency to plan confidently for tomorrow while forgetting our frailty and God’s sovereignty. Using James 4:13–16, it reveals how spiritual tunnel vision and pride lead us to trust our own understanding instead of humbly submitting our plans to the Lord. Scripture reminds us that life is a mist, and every intention we set should be held with the posture of “Lord willing.”...

This message explains that Scripture does not forbid all judgment, but condemns hypocritical, harsh, and slanderous judgment that elevates oneself above others and God’s law. While believers naturally make judgments and are called to exercise discernment—especially regarding doctrine, character, and restoring others caught in sin—this must be done with humility, wisdom, and love. James and Jesus w...

At the heart of this message lies a profound examination of humanity's oldest spiritual crisis: the erosion of trust in God's Word. We journey back to Genesis 3, where the serpent poses what may be history's first question—'Did God actually say?'—a query designed not to seek truth but to plant seeds of doubt. This ancient question reverberates through millennia, manifesting today in countless form...

This sermon teaches that fights and quarrels come not from others, but from disordered desires within our own hearts—desires driven by envy, pleasure, and pride rather than submission to God. When believers chase worldly satisfaction and ask God with selfish motives, they drift into spiritual adultery, becoming friends with the world and enemies of God, yet God still offers grace to the humble. Ja...

James teaches that words—especially from teachers and leaders—carry great responsibility because they can guide people toward life or cause serious harm. Though the tongue is small, it has powerful influence, revealing the condition of the heart and shaping relationships for good or evil. While no one can fully tame the tongue, believers must rely on God and the Holy Spirit to guard their speech....

This passage explains James’ teaching that genuine faith is always accompanied by action, not as a means of earning salvation but as evidence of a transformed heart. While Paul addresses legalism by emphasizing salvation through faith alone, James confronts empty belief that produces no fruit. Using examples such as helping the needy, Abraham offering Isaac, and Rahab protecting the spies, the mes...

In this message from James 2:1–13, Pastor Frank talks about the sin of favoritism and how it goes against the heart of the gospel. He shares scripture along with his own experiences to show how partiality, whether it’s based on wealth, appearance, or status, can leave deep wounds in families and in the church. Ps. Frank reminds us that God calls His people to love without discrimination and to hon...

This sermon confronts the disconnect between outward religious performance and genuine faith transformation. Drawing from James 1:26-27, Ps. Frank challenges us to examine whether our faith is merely external—marked by church attendance, prayer, and religious activities—or if it has truly transformed our hearts, evidenced by controlled speech and compassionate action toward the vulnerable. This me...

What if the greatest deception in our spiritual lives isn't about what we believe, but about what we fail to do? This powerful message from James 1:22-25 confronts us with an uncomfortable truth: hearing God's word without acting on it creates a false sense of righteousness. We can attend every service, read our Bibles daily, and accumulate biblical knowledge, yet still be deceiving ourselves if w...

Ps. Frank teaches from James 1:19–21 on what it means to truly receive God’s Word. Drawing from St. Augustine’s powerful encounter with Scripture, this message explores how the Word of God can transform lives when our hearts are prepared like good soil, free from distraction, pride, and sin, allowing the implanted Word to take root and bring lasting change. The Gathering Church is located in Midla...

In life, we’ll always face battles against temptation. Too often, we mistakenly attribute those temptations to God. This message reminds the church that temptation and sin do not come from our holy Father—they stem from our own sinful desires. We’re called to recognize the true source of temptation, understand the cost of giving in, and take action to resist. Just as Jesus overcame, we too can sta...

This week, Pastor Frank unpacks James 1:9–12, speaking to both the rich and the poor in the body of Christ. Through his own journey of walking through seasons of lack and seasons of abundance, he reminds us that neither wealth nor poverty defines who we are, only Christ does. This message challenges us to look beyond our earthly circumstances and fix our eyes on eternal rewards. No matter where we...

This message explores the critical distinction between knowledge and wisdom, emphasizing that while knowledge tells us what something is, wisdom teaches us how to use it properly. Using the humorous illustration of discovering the correct way to use a can opener after a lifetime of doing it wrong, Ps. Frank draws a parallel to how we often live life with knowledge but lack godly wisdom. The messag...

In our journey of faith, we often face trials that test our resolve and challenge our understanding of God's love. Today's message with Pastor Frank delves into James 1:2-4, reminding us to find joy in our trials, not because they're pleasant, but because they're purposeful. These challenges aren't punishments; they're opportunities for growth. Like a runner pushing through the wall in a marathon,...

As we enter the fall season, we're reminded of a deeper harvest - the spiritual harvest Jesus spoke about. The passage from Matthew 9:35-38 paints a vivid picture of Jesus' compassion for the lost and His call for workers in God's harvest field. Ps. Frank challenges us to examine what's holding us back from sharing the Gospel. Are we struggling with feeling unprepared, fear of rejection, or lack o...
