Strangely and Friends

Whooo! I am another year older, and 100 books the read-i-er, or something... Lots of comics this year, as well as a few re-reads of some old favorites. You'll have to listen to find our which one is my favorite! Scroll down for the entire list. p.s. Less than a week to go on my band's album funding kickstarter! (Just in case you didn't know what to get me for my birthday ;) )

Some reflections on mosaic tiles, doing things a little at a time, and failure. With a brief aside about the longest beard in Braunau. . Kickstarter Link! - http://kck.st/4hLoqJW

Humanity needs a group project. From the cave paintings at Lascaux , and the pyramids of Giza, to the national parks of today, there is something beautiful about human beings working on something they will never see fully realized. I am by no means the first person to make this point, two millennia ago Cicero  wrote about it, by quoting the poet Statius: “He plants his trees to serve a race t...

I believe there will always be a place for live performance art. Of course some kind of future, generative Ai coupled to a high-res VR headset might be able to conjure anything and everything, but I don’t think it likely many people are going to enjoy it. I think humans will always want something they can believe is “real.”  Perhaps I am far too much of a pollyanna about this. I have dedicate...

When I graduated high school I felt that I had already missed the boat on numerous things I had always wanted to do. Things like learning a foreign language, a new instrument, or juggling. I had read somewhere that the human brain reaches a point where it stops growing, and thus your ability to learn complicated tasks with any meaningful proficiency disappears. Forever. This seemed backed up by wh...

In the fall of 2019 I had a notable visit to The Museum of Jurassic Technology in Los Angeles. In my mind I always think of it as just “The Museum,” because it is my favorite Museum. To explain anything about the inner workings, or even contents of this venerable institution is, in my opinion, to spoil it. This reticence doubtless comes from the fact that upon my first visit, I entered wholly in t...

Hey everyone! Here it is! My annual rundown of all the books I read this year. Join me as I celebrate my birthday with a beer (this time alcohol free), and some salty opinions about books! Full list of books below, don't scroll if you're avoiding

Today is a chat with one of my favorite fellow students (and fellow American) Anna! Have a seat as we go deep about some our struggles, favorite moments and some cultural differences we've noticed!

Join me and fellow boatbuilder Juriaan as we talk about the school, our course and the twin keeled boat he restored during COVID.

Hey folks, in honor of Halloween, (and because my brain hurts from learning to sew sails by hand) here's me reading one of my favorite ghost stories. A spooky little tale by Charles Dickens!

Hello everyone! Sorry this episode is a bit late, but I think it's worth it. Join us as we discuss what we did on our fall break, and try to determine who's the loudest Dane in the school!

Join fellow boatbuilder Alice and I as we discuss the school's recent trip to an island inhabited solely by sheep. No featuring 30% more terrible attempts at speaking Norwegian. [This episode was delayed due to technical difficulties. Sorry!]

Join me and fellow Fosen student Nora as we chat about society-wide passive aggression, how to be hardcore about Christmas treats, and just what's up with Sweden's island obsession. [Pictured Nora's Cottage-[Hard]core room at Fosen.] [Some technical difficulties delayed the regular podcast feed. Sorry!]

This week I am joined by Oliver, another fellow Boatbuilder. Join me for a profanity filled journey into the mind of a young Australian, as we talk about our time in the woods, our least favorite meals and what a tease our teacher can be.

This week I am joined by my new friend Kamma. We discuss harvesting trees the old way, how we're settling in to the school, and why it might be dangerous to ask a child for potato pancakes. As always this podcast is made possible by my incredible supporters at Patreon.com/Strangely.

I am so excited that this episode has a guest! I have been at Fosen for a week now and I got to sit down and catch up with one of my fellow students, about our first impressions. Hopefully our enthusiasm covers up any confusion some of you experience as we talk about the oddly summercamp like atmosphere here at Fosen! As always, this podcast is made possible by my incredible supporters on Patreon....

Hello Everyone! I know some of you are waiting on tenterhooks for the next installment of my scripted series on art that influenced me, but sadly it's going to be a while. I was hoping to have that finished before I left for Norway, but- well, Life happened. I am going to try something a little bit different for the next few weeks, and if you folks enjoy it, I'll keep doing it. Instead of my usual...

Hello Everyone! It's taken longer than I wanted, but I'm excited to tell you I've got this new series rolling. This is the introduction to what will eventually be a 12 part series about a variety of things that influenced me during the first 18 years of my life. I hope you all enjoy it! See you in two weeks! -Strangely Email: SAFTP@tuta.io
