Rish Outcast

Rish goes for a walk and presents his short story "Slightly Used, Mildly Cursed." Jesse takes his ex-girlfriend Colbie to the airport and discovers that he needs new floormats. He buys the wrong ones, to say the least. To download this episode, Right-Click HERE . To support Rish on his Patreon page, click HERE . Logo by Gino "Slightly Bruised" Moretto.

After the recent(ish) White House Correspondents Dinner, I wanted to talk about what I find funny and what I don't. So, there will be a bit of profanity here. Rish Benjamin Outfield once said that spit-takes and Uranus jokes are always funny. Does that still hold up? What about fart jokes and words that start with CH? To download the episode, just Right-Click HERE . As usual, the Patreon su...

Rish tells more library stories, and worries that being too honest will make him look bad. Has his empathy started to run low? Case in point: When there came a threat to the building, Rish happened to be the one who was "just sitting there." Is your job as boring as mine? Care you to download the episode at THIS LINK ? Dare you to support me on Patreon at THIS LINK ? Swear you to click on T...

Rish performs two Roald Dahl short stories: 1959's "The Landlady," about a young man looking for a boarding house in a new town; and 1952's "Skin," about an old man in Paris with a very unusual tattoo.   Big Anklevich joins Rish for his new sketch "What It's All About." A father and son drive along, contemplating the meaning of songs. Wikipedia may disagree, however.   Rish talks about seeing opposition to things people love (brought on by backlash to OBSESSION and TOY STORY 5) and wonders why that is. Is it human nature? Is he guilty of it himself? Will he talk about Olivia Rodrigo again?  And of course, recent American politics comes into it as well. Can we still be friends? Note: So, this episode turned out much longer than it was supposed to, bec...

After a bit of political talk--what can one do against such reckless hate?--Rish talks about a possible intruder in the building. Also, dealing with criticism, a book signing, A.I., sickness, a possible Halloween program, a couple with unbelievable stamina. And Trump--did he need to be brought up in this episode? Probably. If you want to download the episode, Right-Click HERE . If you want...

In the final segment of the novella, Brielle Montrose has moved far away from her brother...but does that mean she is also far from his supernatural associate? I hope you have enjoyed this (lengthy) presentation. I think I know which one I plan to do next, but if you have a suggestion, feel free to put it out there. If you want to download the episode, Right-Click HERE . If you want to supp...

Rish presents the fourth chunk (a technical term) of his novella "My Friend of Misery." Can Brielle Montrose convince her brother to abandon his new best pal? Or is it far too late?   Rish is head over heels for this 2026 Horror movie OBSESSION, directed by Curry Barker, which has made a ton of money and garnered a bunch of praise. And while Rish tries to skirt spoilers, here's one: he never quite manages to properly explain why the movie was so scary to him. While we're at it, why not talk about John Collier's "The Chaser," adapted in the first season of The Twilight Zo...

Rish presents HG Wells's 1897 Science Fiction tale, "The Crystal Egg." It tells us about Mister Cave, an antique shop owner who is oddly protective of a decorative glass egg in the store's possession. Yeah, 1897. If you wish to download the episode, Right-Click HERE .   It's the new normal. Brielle Montrose tries to live her life, while her brother and his new "friend" are living theirs. Afterwards, Rish opens a can of worms talking about bullies (I even considered cutting it out, since the episode was so long, but here we are) and even quotes Nietzsche. Note: These three MFOM episodes were recorded before I realized it was a mistake to attach my microphon...

It's our tenth episode hecktacular! Still waiting on the new bathroom lock, by the way. Rish talks about a patron making accusations on the night the police were called twice.  And an outtake that made Rish cry before recording it. If you wish to download the episode, Right-Click HERE .   Rish presents one of the most famous Science Fiction stories of the 20th Century, 1954's "The Cold Equations" by Tom Godwin. Afterward, Rish talks about the story at length. How big a shock is the reveal of the stowaway, and what does that say about the reader? What was the hardest part of performing it? If Rish were editing the story now, how much would he cut out? Note: This is one of the...

In the second section of "My Friend of Misery," little brother Brent has a new friend, and Brielle Montrose is starting to suspect it's not a great idea to spend time with the boogeyman. Afterward, Rish talks about who Brielle is, killing off parents in a story like this, and a ton about child actors. To download the episode, Right-Click  HERE .   After a very long introduction, Rish presents the first section of his novella "My Friend of Misery." Teenager Brielle Montrose hears a voice coming from her little brother Brent's room in the middle of the night. And it sure ain't Bluey. Afterward, Rish tells (in excruciating detail) the inspiration for this story, wonders about the genders of the characters, and proposes an assignment for...

Rish tells a lengthy (interminable?) story about a patron with a wrapped-up object. "Incompetence is about to strike." Also, he encounters The Man In The Stall. Note: I really ought to go back and retroactively retitle all these episodes with lurid titles like this one. If you'd like to download the episode, Right-Click  HERE .   Guest-starring Big Anklevich, Rish airs his daddy issues and simultaneously proclaims his love for 4 Non Blondes' only hit song. They chat about nostalgia, Van Halen, the title of this podcast, and of course, they talk Pixar. And does Big know any Smashmouth lyrics? If you want to download the episode, Right-Click  HERE .   Rish finishes talking about this year's conference. Look at me, Gino! It's all for you! Rish talks about a writer who only managed to write one book in a year, about meeting a Disney director, about letting your subconscious work out plot details, tries to answer a couple of Marshal Latham questions, and what he has now decided is his favorite Disney animated film. As always, you can downlo...

The yearly writers conference that Rish goes to has come and gone, and somebody somewhere wanted an episode about it. Be careful what you wish for, son. In this half, Rish asks "Am I arrogant?" He encounters the author of "Dungeon Crawler Carl." He attends a panel by a writer that hogs all the attention, he gets in a bit of a sticky situation, and he goes to a panel with a magical technique...

Rish presents M.R. James's 1904 spooky story, "The Number Thirteen." A historian in Denmark stays in Room 12 of the local inn . . . but who is in Room 13? And is there even a Room 13? Rish then talks and talks about the ending of the story (and so should you). If you wish to download the episode, Right-Click  HERE . If you wish to support me on Patreon, click  HERE .   Finishing the presentation of "The Dark Gift." Thanks to you. People are finally starting to notice Nobie Miller . . . a lot of people at the Pickle Days carnival. And they're noticing her a lot. Rish goes to a pretty dark place (no pun intended) with the discussion afterward, but also explains the main character's ridiculous name (still not as bad as the majority of Gen Z names are--Braxto...

Rish presents the first half of his recent carnival story, "The Dark Gift." Nobie, Eris, and Grump are enjoying the 1992 Pickle Days celebration when Nobie spins a wheel and it stops on something it wasn't supposed to. Afterward, Rish explains the title and inspiration--making this probably the only story he's ever written due to spite. Note: This was not intended to be split into two episo...

Rish tells more stories about being a security guard. Will it ever stop? Yo, I don't know. In this one, Rish talks about being at the library for one year, as well as the lady who has seizures, and what seems like actual progress with her. He also talks about the relationship between librarians and security, the girl whose first day it wasn't, his limited Spanish-speaking ability, and in a...

Rish, with special guest Big Anklevich, presents Paul W. Fairman's 1952 story, "Brothers Beyond The Void," about the first man to visit Mars.
