Kellie and Daphne are joined by our friend and certified Twilight superf...

"Thank you for changing my life…again." It’s a very unique day in Rereading the Revolution history. We read a book for adults! John Green’s debut adult novel and first fiction book in nine years, Hollywood, Ending, follows two young actors as they navigate modern fame and their relationship with each other. In this episode, we briefly recap the plot and discuss our thoughts about this mo...

“I feel like I could probably go on a zip line somewhere else.” You read that right. We read Divergent ...again. In anticipation of the release of Veronica Roth's new reimagining of the Divergent series, The Sixth Faction , we're going back to where it all started both for her and for us. Daphne, Kellie, and special guest Amber (@seekingdystopia) give the book a more thorough recap, share...

UNLOCK THE FULL EPISODE BY SUBSCRIBING TO OUR PATREON OR PURCHASING IT AT PATREON.COM/REREADINGTHEREVOLUTION "I still do not care if Clary or Jace live or die." We did it, folks. We made it to the end of the first half of The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, one of our most ambitious undertakings yet. Daphne and Kellie answer all of your burning questions in this City of Glass recap,...

"It has kind of changed my life.." Because one episode was not enough to cover this behemoth of a children's novel, we're back to recap the second half of Michael Grant's Gone (2008). We hope the first half wasn't too weird for you, because we're just getting started with this sci-fi tale described by so many critics as Lord of the Flies meets Stephen King...but with superpowers. The critics didn'...

UNLOCK THE FULL EPISODE BY SUBSCRIBING TO OUR PATREON AT PATREON.COM/REREADINGTHEREVOLUTION "Clary, as usual, runs away crying." We’re continuing to tear through The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, and City of Glass (2009) is too monumental to contain to one episode. We take on the first half of the epic finale (sort of), visiting Idris for the first time, navigating a series of comp...

The Trials have begun and our fates are up to the dice. Delphina, Chenille, Apple, and Spruce build alliances, face the elements, and fight for their lives in the arena in this episode of Dungeons & Dystopia. Prepare yourself for brutality, heartbreak, betrayal, and the stick situation in this action-packed second episode. New episodes will drop on the third Wednesday of each month! Follow us...

"This is like, the least predictable book I’ve ever read in my life." An instant classic is incoming, because we're tackling Michael Grant's Gone (2008), one of the silliest and strangest books we've ever read. It's too much for one episode, so we broke this one into two mind-boggling parts. Kellie and Daphne discuss Grant's checkered legacy, our listeners' memories of this series, and of course,...

"It’s textbook Rereading the Revolution." Our listeners have been clamoring for us to read Fallen (Lauren Kate, 2009) since our infamous Hush, Hush episode came out. Daphne and Kellie are joined by special guest Thya Leger to take on more fallen angels posing as high schoolers and bravely ask the question of what's worse--the impending Biblical apocalypse or getting meatloaf in smashed your hair a...

“He really John Greened in this one." The time has come for another John Green episode, and this time our Patreon subscribers voted for Paper Towns (2008)! This is a book whose cultural significance is based more on the kind of story that it became a symbol of rather than the plot itself. Kellie and Daphne unpack the nuances and accuracy of the "manic pixie dream girl" label for Margo, along with...

It's back. It's bigger. It's better. It's bloodier. The game has changed. Dungeons & Dystopia, our YA book-themed Dungeons & Dragons actual play series has returned! This time, Dungeonmaster Colin is taking us through The Sovereign Trials in a game inspired by the world of The Hunger Games. In this episode, you'll meet the tributes and follow them through the high-stakes process of prepari...

It was another very close poll for our movie bonus episode this month, but the 2014 cinematic classic The Giver took the crown. It also took 97 minutes of our lives that we can never get back.  Kellie and Daphne discuss the film's f...

"There ain’t no pumpkin carriage." Of all the books left on our list, Cinder by Marissa Meyer (2012) was by far the most requested by listeners. We dive into the fantastical, dystopian world of the Lunar Chronicles with its first installment, a Cinderella retelling with a sci-fi twist. This book has everything: cyborgs, androids, fairytale romance, a wicked stepmother, the plague, classic twists,...

UNLOCK THE FULL EPISODE BY SUBSCRIBING TO OUR PATREON AT PATREON.COM/REREADINGTHEREVOLUTION Tyra Banks' 2011 epic Modelland is taking the internet by storm, so we're here to tell you everything you need to know. We may be recapping the recaps, but it's still a seriously long story. This Patreon-exclusive special episode has everything: a recap, reality TV discussion, the bumpy history of Modelland...

"The Darkling is written, like, really hotly." Rereading the Revolution has entered the Grishaverse. We finally read Leigh Bardugo's Shadow and Bone (2012)! Kellie and Daphne recap the tsarpunk fantasy novel that spawned some of the most beloved YA books of all time, a Netflix show, and a ship that's almost as diabolical as its name. Follow us on social media @rereadingtherevolution for updates an...

UNLOCK THE FULL EPISODE BY SUBSCRIBING TO OUR PATREON AT PATREON.COM/REREADINGTHEREVOLUTION "She did a little bit of writing." It's the end of an era, both for us and the people of Illéa. The patrons voted for us to read a Selection sequel for the final time (unless Kiera Cass decides to write more...). Book 5 in the series, The Crown, follows the second half of Princess Eadlyn's Selection. Will s...

"The power of Malec." Happy Pride Month! This year, our Patrons chose to celebrate by reading They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera (2017). If you were on BookTok in 2020, you're probably familiar with this speculative fiction story of two boys who receive a call from Death-Cast notifying them that they have less than 24 hours to live. We follow Mateo and Rufus through September 5, 2017, which...

"I believe that you are an alien and also I love you." We had our Patrons vote on a selection of our most-requested dystopian and sci-fi books, and I Am Number Four (2010) by Pittacus Lore (allegedly...) won by a landslide. It's your typical fish-out-of-water story about the new boy in town trying his best to fit in and survive the semester with the help of the prettiest girl in school, an oddball...

Many of very same people who anxiously awaited this movie in 2013 have anxiously awaited this episode thirteen years later. Hopefully that's the only thing they have in common. We're joined once again by Mara and Katie to discus...

"One thing about our Bella is that she loves to give up." Kellie, Daphne, and special guest Hannah Lisa Lohr are back with the second half (some would even say the exciting half) of Stephenie Meyer's New Moon (2009)! We pick up where we left off to follow Bella as she learns Jacob’s secret, engages in some more dangerous recreational activities, and makes some new friends on her big trip to Italy....

“Stephenie Meyer almost never hits for me. But when she does hit, it’s…like transcendental.” We’ve made you wait long enough for us to read New Moon (2009), hopefully we made it worthwhile by coming back with two episodes on the second book in the Twilight series. Our resident Twilight expert, Hannah Lisa Lohr, is back for both! Whether you love or hate Stephenie Meyer’s vampire romance novels, th...

To no one's surprise, City of Ashes (2009), book two in Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series, swept our latest Patreon poll. If you thought the first installment was wild, just wait until you hear what this one has in store. There's a vampire and werewolf feud strai...

We've reached the epic conclusion of our three-part Dusk real-play D&D series! This episode sees our crew of vampires, werewolves, and one extraordinarily normal girl crashing a very meta interdimensional story convention and taking on a heroic final battle. We're met with several familiar faces, including a young author who bears a slight resemblance to (but definitely isn't) someone you may...

"I mean, when you're trapped in a box in the dark with three other boys, what else are you gonna talk about?" After two years of you asking for it, we finally took on Neal Shusterman's beloved and disturbing 2007 dystopian novel, Unwind. Kellie and Daphne are joined by longtime Unwind fan and our good friend, Lin, to discuss the book's real-life inspirations, political resonance, and shocking, fre...
