Join me for a deep dive into the nation's capitol, not the swampy reflecting pool, no I am turning the wayback machine to the early 80s and the beginnings of the mod revival in Washington DC. To bring us this mod origin story I am joined by a man who was there to see it all as it happened, the lead singer for mod power pop rockers Modest Proposal , and The Mondays! , friend of the Modcast Neal Aug...

Welcome to the wild side of the mod beginnings, the wild, wooly, often whacky, world of freakbeat. What is freakbeat? Good question and depending on who you ask people will tell you the sound of freakbeat includes everything from The Dave Clark Five to The Pretty Things, Herman's Hermits to The Beatles to The Action to even The Supremes. Anyhow here's my answer to that question. Let's take a walk...

It's all happening here with my special guest mod DJ, Derek Delboy Shepherd. Derek has his finger on the pulse of new mod music, and has had for quite a while. In the 80s he published one of the longest running mod fanzines ever, In The Crowd . And in the 90s followed that up by publishing another top fanzine, Tailor Made . These days he curates all the new mod friendly music you can find on his S...

And now for something just a little bit different .... What happens when two old mods finally sit down and compare style notes? They discover their paths directly crossed nearly 40 years earlier for one thing. And they explore new sounds, old bands, and the everlasting strength of the mod lifestyle. I am joined by one of the best northern soul, mod DJs on the scene today, Mod Marty. He's the host...

It's on days like these you want to feel the sun on your skin, taste the tonic in your gin, and listen to some beautiful tunes. I've got you covered. Relax, kick of your shoes and stay a while. Twenty years ago I got an iPod. The rest as they say is history. Having published a mod fanzine in So Cal in the 80s, and then a website in the 90s devoted to mod style and cocktail culture, I was predisposed to be intrigued by this new fangled publishing medium called a podcast. I dove in head first on May 26, 2006 with the very first episode of It's A Mod Mod World, which quickly got rebranded t...

Is there a new mod renaissance upon us? That is the question I've been asking myself since last year. Sitting in Seattle casting my jaundiced eye on the scene from afar I ask you: is London swinging again? Over the years claims of new mod revivals have been made, and almost never supported, especially in the 21st century. I dive deep into the subject, here's my research and my opinion. Agree or di...

From the vaults! Another long lost, but not forgotten, modcast of a bygone era. Enjoy. Welcome to Mr. Suave's Mod Mod World , modcast #131 if you can believe it. I don't know about you, but I've got the blues. The legendary queen of the blues Koko Taylor died a little more than a week ago, and that sparked me to dig out and revisit some my old blues, esepcially the British blues of the sixties, th...

Ooops! I did it again, another all covers show. Now these are what you might call ... not the originals. More like echoes and interpretations. New year, new music. But what about last year's great music? Here's a last hurrah for some of the best releases of 2025. These are 20 of my favorites that I listened to on repeat in 2025. So many best of lists are ridiculously long with 200, 250, even 500 releases. What's the point? I like to take my time and actually edit it down to a managable number that means something. It's not easy, there ar...

Even as it's the start of the holiday season I'm eschewing the holiday sounds for when we get a bit closer to Christmas. Right now I've got a whole show of new songs to share with you. Tons of good music has been dropping since the summer, and earlier in the year as well, and I realized I haven't been keeping up with keeping you hipped to the latest and greatest. So this should set that to rights....
