Exploring Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls and Eastern Highlands. Also a Gorongoza safari. Interesting interlude to witness parliament under Ian Smith during UDI.

Visit to Swaziland and safari in Kruger National Park before settling in Johannesburg. Work at Baragwanath Hospital, outside Soweto, in cerebral palsy clinic. Hiking and climbing in the Magaliesberg Mountains.

Travel along the Garden Route in our Mini from Pietermaritzburg to CapeTown, following the Indian Ocean. Stay with Daisy Solomon, suffragette, and work at Groote Schuur Hospital. Climb Table Mountain, rich social life and visit to Namibia.

Discussion of South African politics under Apartheid while Nelson Mandela was incarcerated on Robben Island. Exploration of effectiveness of activism and sanctions and the role of the church. Mention of Canada's Brian Mulroney's principled influence in convincing the Western World to implement sanctions and his rigorous advocacy for Mandela's release.

Worked at Addington Hospital as physiotherapists. Exploration of Zululand and Lesotho as well as hiking in the Drakensberg mountains.
