Sampling a couple of Belgian Blondes 03.08.2024

After a rather long hiatus, we sample a couple of beautiful Belgian Blondes today. Leffe Blonde and Abbaye d'Aulne give totally different experiences to the palate.

East West Brewing- (Far East) IPA 29.12.2023

Recently, East West Brewing Company dropped the "Far East" name from their cans of IPAs sold here in Ho Chi Minh City. It got me wondering if they changed their beer, just changed the can/marketing, or if something more was afoot. Today we try out these two beer (cans) side by side to see if there is a discernable difference in the beers. Survey says: NOPE. That's the same beer in a new package. L...

East West Brewing -- Pale Ale 27.12.2023

Over a year and a half ago, I tried this Pale Ale from East West Brewing Company, but I opened another one today with their new marketing design. It is clearly a well made beer coming in at 6% ABV and 32 IBUs. The hop bill is magnificient and this was a winner. I decided to try my hand at video podcasting today, and this will be my inaugural episode on YouTube. True to form, I rant a little bit ab...

Heart of Darkness - Kurtz's Insane IPA 25.12.2023

Merry Christmas from our Christmas Day edition of Let's Have Another Round. As promised, we crack open this delicious IPA from Heart of Darkness Brewery-- Kurtz's Insane IPA. This may be the best IPA in SE Asia. It is remarkable, with a great hop bill of 7 different hops, and a strong grain bill in an excellent support role. After thoroughly enjoying this beer, I rant a liitle about the 6,000 pers...

Heart of Darkness - Tropical Bia 21.12.2023

Today we try out a very fruit forward pilsner brewed here in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Tropical Bia by Heart of Darkness Brewery tastes like a Passionfruit Shandy. It is crisp and crushable at only 5% ABV. If you like beer that tastes like fruit juice, this will be right down your alley. After reviewing this beer, I go on a rant about the recent Colorado Supreme Court decision to keep Donald J. T...

Heart of Darkness- Dream Alone Pale Ale 20.12.2023

Today we got back in action from Saigon, Vietnam, trying out a local craft brew from Heart of Darkness Brewery (https://heartofdarknessbrewery.com/) right here in Ho Chi Minh City. This is a deliciously poundable pale ale just aching to be quaffed.

Episode 17 - HTX Hazy Juicy IPA 08.05.2023

Today we sample Urban South Brewery's HTX Hazy Juicy IPA. This IPA hopped with Citra and Strata is delicious. It is a perfect blend of hops and grains to make a very drinkable and enjoyable Hazy IPA. This may be one of the best beers I have had brewed here in Houston. After cracking this baby open, I go on another rant about Michel Doukeris, the CEO of ABInBev. The man is out of touch with reality...

Episode 16: Tanuki IPA by Back Pew Brewing 08.05.2023

Continuing on our quest to drink local and promote local brews, we check out another beer from Back Pew Brewing-- Tanuki IPA. This fairly low IBU beer is full of flavors and malts that I am sure suits the palates of some people, but just doesn't hit home for me. I prefer a more bitter IPA with a dominate hop bill that screams lupulin. . .this beer does not. Still, you gotta love the art work on th...

Episode 15: Karbach Brewing's Cerveza Especial 06.05.2023

Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone. Today we celebrate by drinking a locally brewed Mexican Lager, brewed right here in Houston, Texas. In the process, I discovered an excellent beer and even tried to teach you guys a few things about this Mexican-American holiday and its ties to Texas. Be safe, and enjoy the holiday!

Episode 14: Four Sixes Hazy Session IPA 04.05.2023

Today, we sample Grit & Glory Brewing Company's Four Sixes Hazy Session IPA. I was totally surprised by the quality of this beer. It is refreshing and quite good. The hop bill is excellent for this 4.8% session ale. While I am not a fan of the deceptive marketing that makes it appear the beer is made in Texas, overall I like the beer and will gladly have another. I then spend the rest of the e...

Episode 13: A NYC vs. Houston DIPA line-up 03.05.2023

Today we line up a DIPA from the Houston area vs. a DIPA from NYC. Bronc Stomper West Coast Style DIPA from Back Pew Brewing takes on SixPoint Brewery's Resin DIPA. They turn out to be strikingly different beers each suiting a different palate. No politics, current events or banter. . . just straight beer talk today

Episode 12: H-Town Pils by Saint Arnold Brewing 26.04.2023

As promised, today we sample another locally brewed pilsner, the H-Town Pils by Saint Arnold Brewing. This beer was much more predictable than the 713 sampled yesterday. This well brewed beer deserves a try if you are in or visiting the Houston area.

Episode 11: 713 Pilsner by Eureka Heights Brewing 25.04.2023

After a long hiatus, we are back, now in Houston, Texas. In today's episode we sample a local brew from Eureka Heights Brewing Company and we dabble a bit in the latest controversies surrounding Bud Light and FOX news.

Episode 10: Halida Beers, sure to disappoint! 25.08.2022

Halida Beers are made by Carlsberg Vietnam, and I bought this pair of beers to showcase local mass market beers available here in Vietnam. Cue the sad trombones. . .these beers were both very disappointing to my foreign palate. I look forward to sampling some better beers in the future. . .as for these, now you will know what to avoid.

Episode 9: Kumiho IPA and Kaiserin Black Beer 18.08.2022

Today we enjoy a Kumiho IPA from KABREW in South Korea. We also enjoy a black beer brewed right here in Ho Chi Minh City, Kaiserin Black Beer. Come along for the ride.

Episode 8 - Kumiho Relax Beer 03.08.2022

Welcome back to Let's Have Another Round. Today we crack open another Korean beer from Kabrew, and although we did not know what we were getting, it was a pleasant surprise. This sessionable Pale Wheat Ale is sweet but crisp. It was a pleasure to drink. We talk a little about life in Saigon; a little about PGA Tour and LIV Golf; and a little about American politics. Just some normal banter. I'm gl...

Episode 7: East West Pale Ale 21.04.2022

Today we enjoy the flagship beer of Ho Chi Minh City's own East West Brewing Co. Come along as we crack open this can of East West Pale Ale and talk a little about mask mandates and border insecurity.

Episode 6 - Platinum Zen vs. 333 13.04.2022

Today we have a bit of a battle between a craft lager, Platinum Zen, and Vietnam's best selling lager world-wide, 333. All beer talk, no politics :-)

Episode 5 - Two More South Korean Beers 08.04.2022

Today we review Gwanghwamun Seoulite Ale and Namsan Mountain Premium Citra Ale. No politics or controversy...just beer talk. Both beers surprised me just a little, and we walk away with two thumbs up for each of them.

Episode 4 - ARK Korea Craft Brewery's Coffee Ale 07.04.2022

Today we review ARK Korea Craft Brewery's Coffee Ale and give it two thumbs up. It's a good coffee porter that gets better as it warms up closer to room temperature. This is the best of the three Korean craft beers I've reviewed so far. I also discuss Texas Governor Greg Abbott's plan to bus illegal migrants to Washington DC.

Episode 3 -- Royal Pride Redefined 06.04.2022

Today we review Royal Pride IPA by South Korean brewer, KABREW. After suffering through this miserable concoction, we talk a bit about Rep. Matt Gaetz and Sec. Lloyd Austin's verbal battle at the Defense Department budget hearing.

Episode 2 - South Korea's Jeju Brewing Company 05.04.2022

Today we review South Korea's Jeju Beer Company's Seongsan Ilchulbong Ale, and I rant on and on about the latest UN Climate Change report.

Inaugural Podcast, Friday, April, 1, 2022: 7 Bridges Brewing Co. 01.04.2022

Tonight, while sitting at the Container Pub in Thao Dien Ward of Saigon, I enjoy two beers from 7 Bridges Brewing Company-- a craft brewery from right here in Vietnam. I discuss their Imperial IPA and their Beach Blonde Ale. We dabble a bit in politics of Gov. Ron Desantis of Florida and the International Legion in Ukraine. Nothing too serious, just beer and opinions.
