Disappointing loss against UCLA with the defense continuing to decline, and Sully going down helped sink the ship. Next up is Maryland and analyst Brian Ferentz. Fran's boys are 4-0 after a nice win in Moline over Washington State. Some intriguing talent on this team!

The Hawkeyes dismantled the Badgers in a Kinnick night game with over 300 yards rushing. Three in a row in the series, and the Hearland Trophy is getting used to Iowa City. Next up are the UCLA Bruins in the Rose Bowl. It's a good rushing defense for the Bruins, but the Hawkeyes will overwhelm the powder blue on the gridiron. After righting the ship against an awful NW team, the Hawkeyes stay at home to face the rival Badgers. These teams are similar as far as defensive numbers and passing game woes. Wisconsin is not as the old Badger team, and they do give up over 140 yards rushing a game. In comes Kaleb Johnson.....and that gives the Hawkeyes the edge in this game!

Ohio State was too much for the Hawkeyes with their $20 million dollar roster. Now it's on to Washington in a Big Ten matchup of a high potent offense traveling two time zones for a conference game at Kinnick Stadium. My prediction and Washington notes.

The first half was a bit uncomfortable after the Hawkeyes defense gave up a 60 plus yard TD pass and special teams gave up a punt return for a TD....not something we are accustomed to see from the special teams. The rotation has been tweaked of late, and this team is fighting for a NCAA tournament birth under the leadership of upper class players who are playing at a high level.

Former WMU head coach and Green Bay special assistant, Tim Lester, was hired to replace Brian Ferentz. If he can run his RPO offense that is built to hit the weak spots on the defense, I’m on board. The Hawks need a QB and some WR in the portal in spring. Numbers are interesting with no scholarships open, but there will be some movement in spring. Despite portal opt-outs, the Hawkeyes couldn’t get much done offensively and were shut out for the third time this season. It’s been up and down for the Hawkeyes with a W over 8-5 Seton Hall as the biggest win after 12 games. Northern Illinois is up next and then it’s Big Ten time with an 0-2 start already in the books. It was a crazy game in Lincoln with two blocked field goals and two kickoffs kicked out of bounds for Iowa. The loss of Cooper DeJean was hard to take this week, but once again, this team fought through adversity and won a close game. The Iowa defense came up big when needed and the offense scored just enough with the late TD by Kaleb Johnson. Next, the Hawkeyes head to Lincoln to try to get back the Heroes trophy and try to keep the Huskers out of a bowl game for a million years in a row.
