5.16 Iowa vs Mizzou Thoughts & Iowa's Loss to Wisconsin...Wow!! 05.01.2025

The Hawkeyes showed up for the bowl game, scoring 21 first half points and led by 10 in the second half but couldn't secure the victory. Mizzou QB threw well and ran the ball, and the Hawkeyes couldn't convert on third down in the second half, despite running the ball well the whole game. Iowa traveled to Wisconsin for a Friday night basketball game and got steamrolled. The Iowa defense was non-ex...

5.15 Iowa vs Mizzou Bowl Preview & a Big Non-Con W over Utah 26.12.2024

The Hawkeyes face a pretty stout defense in Mizzou, especially against the run. Offensively, Mizzou is balanced but do most of their scoring on the ground. The Hawkeyes run D will need to be stout against the Tigers. Iowa men got a big W over Utah in Sioux Falls to close out the non-con, other than one more game on the 30th, after the bowl game. The Utah win was big, but soon it will be all Big Te...

5.14 The Hawks Drop Two Tough Bball Games but Add a QB Named Hank 14.12.2024

A slow start had the Hawkeyes playing catch up against the Wolverines, and the Hawks couldn't get a tough three to fall at the buzzer. Iowa is now 1-1 in the Big Ten. Third ranked Iowa State came to town, and the Hawkeyes looked ready for an upset, but they couldn't sustain it late in the 2nd half, and the Clones got hot late. Nice W by the Iowa women over the Clones. The Hawks landed a QB from Au...

5.13 The Hawks Have Won 9 of 10 Over the Huskers and Dix With the Game Winner! 07.12.2024

Nebraskans are rude and don't shake hands with Iowans. The Hawkeyes have now won nine of ten against the Huskers, despite abysmal offensive numbers in this game. Drew Stevens with the W!! Josh Dix is getting healthy, and the Hawkeyes got a home Big Ten win over NW on a last second 3 by Dix. Injuries are making it tough with Trayore and Koch out, but the Hawkeyes can shoot it from 3. It doesn't get...

5.12 Hawks Get a Road W in Maryland and a Basketball L in KC 25.11.2024

Kaleb Johnson is probably the best RB we have seen in the black and gold, and he continues to grow the argument. Nice play by the OL and a 4th string QB who looks better than the #1 QB earlier in the season. The defense was back to looking like a Phil Parker defense. Unfortunately for Fran's team, they couldn't hit the broadside of a barn from 3 point range in KC against a decent Utah State team a...

5.11 Football and Basketball Notes - Nice W in Moline for the Hawks! 16.11.2024

Disappointing loss against UCLA with the defense continuing to decline, and Sully going down helped sink the ship. Next up is Maryland and analyst Brian Ferentz. Fran's boys are 4-0 after a nice win in Moline over Washington State. Some intriguing talent on this team!

5.10 The Hawks Destroyed the Badgers - Now It's Time for a Rose Bowl W! 08.11.2024

The Hawkeyes dismantled the Badgers in a Kinnick night game with over 300 yards rushing. Three in a row in the series, and the Hearland Trophy is getting used to Iowa City. Next up are the UCLA Bruins in the Rose Bowl. It's a good rushing defense for the Bruins, but the Hawkeyes will overwhelm the powder blue on the gridiron. Two games in, it's hard to tell what Fran has for a basketball team, but...

5.9 Iowa vs Wisconsin. The Battle for the Bull!! 01.11.2024

After righting the ship against an awful NW team, the Hawkeyes stay at home to face the rival Badgers. These teams are similar as far as defensive numbers and passing game woes. Wisconsin is not as the old Badger team, and they do give up over 140 yards rushing a game. In comes Kaleb Johnson.....and that gives the Hawkeyes the edge in this game!

5.8 The Hawkeyes Need a Convincing Homecoming W vs Northwestern 25.10.2024

It's been a rollercoaster ride of a season with most games even being a different story by half. After a nice home W against Washington, a disappointing L in East Lansing has left a sour taste in the mouth of fans. A playoff run is out of the picture, but a good season is still possible if the Hawkeyes run the table, starting with a Homecoming win over NW. QB play has been inconsistent, and the de...

5.7 Big Ten Home Opener Against Washington and The Hawks Need a W! 11.10.2024

Ohio State was too much for the Hawkeyes with their $20 million dollar roster. Now it's on to Washington in a Big Ten matchup of a high potent offense traveling two time zones for a conference game at Kinnick Stadium. My prediction and Washington notes.

5.6 The Hawkeyes Travel to The Horseshoe and Some Iowa Hoops Talk! 04.10.2024

Can the Iowa offense control the ball enough to keep the potent Ohio State offense off the field long enough to pull off an upset? The offense will need to run the ball and get the passing game going to have a chance. Turnovers and field position will also be a key to the Hawkeyes chances to pull off a major upset. It's hard to believe, but basketball is just around the corner, and Fran's staff ha...

5.5 The Hawkeyes Bring Floyd Back Home Where He Belongs!! 22.09.2024

Kaleb Johnson continues his amazing run with 204 yards rushing on just 21 carries. The Iowa offense ran the ball at will, especially in the second half, but the passing game might need a little work in the bye week. The defense was solid other than the two 2nd quarter drives by Minnesota that resulted in touchdowns for the Boat Rowing Minnesotans. PF Fleck losing is always a fun time and even bett...

5.4 The Hawkeyes 2nd Half Led to a 38-21 Victory Over Troy 17.09.2024

The first half was a bit uncomfortable after the Hawkeyes defense gave up a 60 plus yard TD pass and special teams gave up a punt return for a TD....not something we are accustomed to see from the special teams. The defense gave up another long TD pass in the second half, but the offense prevailed with a strong running game and Cade McNamara's 19-23 passing. Next up is the battle for Floyd! Go...

5.3 The Hawkeyes Blow a Lead and Lose the Cy-Hawk Game at Home Again 08.09.2024

The Hawkeyes had first and goal inside the five twice and settled for field goals, making the home crowd unsettled. Then things got stranger, as the Hawkeyes elected to go for two up 19-7 in the 3rd quarter. Chasing points doomed the Hawkeyes, along with a struggling quarterback and a defense that gave up big some big plays in the second half. It looked like the Hawkeyes were going to dominate wit...

5.2 The Hawkeyes Take Care of Business Against the Redbirds 03.09.2024

After a slow first half with the offense unable to find the endzone, the Hawkeyes' offense turned it on in the second half in a 40-0 victory. It was a very balanced Iowa offense with 251 passing yards and 241 rushing yards. Cade McNamara got hot in the second half and looked like the QB1 we have all been hoping for. Freshman WR Reese Vander Zee had two TD catches, and transfer Jacob Gill also...

5.1 The 2024 Iowa Hawkeye Football Season is Almost Here! 24.08.2024

How many wins can the Hawkeyes get this year on the gridiron? How many will they get? Position group overviews. Biggest question mark is what will the offense do under Tim Lester? Is the offensive line ready to dominate this season? Will the WR step up to make some explosive plays and help extend drives? Is Cade McNamara ready to go? The defense is going to be SOLID in 2024 with so much experience...

4.26 Final wrap up of Iowa basketball season. A few other news and notes sprinkled in. Go Hawks! 14.04.2024

We all know Caitlin is the goat. What a run by the Hawkeyes to the championship game. Tim Lester is getting rave reviews as OC early on. I go into detail of the Hawkeyes men’s team and how they performed this past season, and the outlook for next season. Go Hawks!!

4.25 Iowa’s NCAA hopes stayed alive after wins over Wisconsin and MSU. Sorry Jay, CC22 is the goat! 23.02.2024

The Iowa men have been treading water, but they are firmly on the bubble with a home win over top 20 Wisconsin and a road win at MSU. Fran’s teams have won five of the last six over Sparty. The rotation has been tweaked of late, and this team is fighting for a NCAA tournament birth under the leadership of upper class players who are playing at a high level.

4.24 Former WMU HC Tim Lester is new Iowa OC. Can bball Hawks keep the NCAA tourney streak in ‘24? 02.02.2024

Former WMU head coach and Green Bay special assistant, Tim Lester, was hired to replace Brian Ferentz. If he can run his RPO offense that is built to hit the weak spots on the defense, I’m on board. The Hawks need a QB and some WR in the portal in spring. Numbers are interesting with no scholarships open, but there will be some movement in spring. Two disappointing losses have Fran’s guys reeling....

4.23 Discuss coaches over the last 50 years of Iowa basketball and why fans aren’t filling up Carver 19.01.2024

Covers some news and discussion around men’s basketball and the coaches over the last 50 years. Why aren’t fans filling up Carver with this fun, young basketball team? Go Hawks!!

4.22 Another poor offensive performance in the Citrus Bowl, but there is hope with change coming! 05.01.2024

Iowa’s offense looked out-dated and tired against a fast and aggressive Tennessee defense. Despite portal opt-outs, the Hawkeyes couldn’t get much done offensively and were shut out for the third time this season. Help is on the way with a mystery OC, some COVID year returnees and a nice early signing class for Swarm 24. Go Hawks!!

4.21 Fran’s Hawkeyes are 7-5 with one more non con before B1G is in full swing. Season recap so far. 29.12.2023

It’s been up and down for the Hawkeyes with a W over 8-5 Seton Hall as the biggest win after 12 games. Northern Illinois is up next and then it’s Big Ten time with an 0-2 start already in the books. The Moline freshmen, Owen Freeman and Brock Harding, have hit the ground running. Can the team gel and make it to the Big Show?

4.20 Preview of Iowa vs TN in the Citrus Bowl and other 2023 football thoughts. 26.12.2023

Iowa faces a high powered offense in the Citrus Bowl. The Volunteers have a senior QB and some dynamic WR, although its top RB opted out of the game. Can the Hawkeyes get win number 11? Also talk a bit about my trip to Indy for the Big Ten Championship game.

4.19 The Hawkeyes win for the 6th time in a row in Lincoln! 10-2 Hawks will face Michigan in Indy! 25.11.2023

It was a crazy game in Lincoln with two blocked field goals and two kickoffs kicked out of bounds for Iowa. After going 5-11 as a field goal kicker last year, the Hawkeyes marched out Marshall Meeder to kick a game winning 38 yard field goal, his first of the season. The Hawkeyes ran the ball well and Nebraska was generous with turnovers, as they have been all season. Next up for Iowa, the cheater...

4.18 The Hawkeyes clinched the B1G West title with a win over border rival Illinois! Nebraska next! 20.11.2023

The loss of Cooper DeJean was hard to take this week, but once again, this team fought through adversity and won a close game. The Iowa defense came up big when needed and the offense scored just enough with the late TD by Kaleb Johnson. Next, the Hawkeyes head to Lincoln to try to get back the Heroes trophy and try to keep the Huskers out of a bowl game for a million years in a row.
