When you watch the broad range of movies that are featured in the cave, you're going to sometimes run into a random turd. We were hit squarely in the face by two of them this time, but we still managed to enjoy our time with films, and also in our discussion of all the little ways the movies were successful. We start with 1988's " Dead of Night " and follow it with 1992's " Crystal Force ". Dead o...

1977 was apparently a big year for revenge at the cinema! We look at two films from that year that don't pull any punches in serving up some icy-cold vengeance! We start off with " The Farmer ", the only directorial effort from  David Berlatsky , who primarily worked as an editor. A soldier, played by  Gary Conway  returns home from World War 2 to find his family farm in disrepair and about to be...

There's some real head-banging in the cave this time as we look at two fun little low-budget indies that focus on the evil side of rock and roll! We start off with 2019's " Death to Metal " from director  Tim Connery . It's a blend of many stories you've seen before, wrapped up in a big bow with a transformed priest who begins murdering all the metalheads he can find. It's got some fun moments thr...

For our annual Pride-month episode, we are looking at two films that combine classic horror tropes along with LGBTQ+ themes. We start off with " Bit " from 2019, a vampire movie with a trans lead and a troupe of feminist vampires waging a war against the douchey men of Los Angeles. It's a fun film with a strong political component that serves as a strong underpinning of the rest of the action. We...

After a career filled with punching and kicking,  Chuck Norris  finally was taken down. We celebrate his career, while still remembering that he was not a perfect person, and that his politics were regretably FAR removed from our own. Still though, he brought us a lot of entertainment over the years, and at least one of the movies we chose for the podcast reminded us of just how entertaining he CO...

Episode 249 is here with two very different versions of what it looks like to get entangled in the prison system. We start with 1979's " Penitentiary " from filmmaker  Jamaa Fanaka . Starring  Leon Isaac Kennedy  as "Too Sweet", who gets sent to prison on a bogus charge and gets involved in the prison's boxing program. In most ways, it's a comedy and has some great moments throughout. We follow th...

Episode 248 is our annual, Black History Month show. We look at a couple of VERY different, but equally badass lead actors who are fed up with the man and push back...hard! We start off with the legendary " Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song " from 1971. The brainchild of multi-hyphenate  Melvin Van Peebles , it follows the eponymous character around as he settles some hash, and avoids arrest, with...

Welcome to 2026 and another fun year in the cave! We are looking at two films from  PM Entertainment , who produced a string of action movies starting in the 90s. Both films star  Gary Daniels  and are directed by  Joseph Merhi , and they share many other actors including a fun reporter charcter played by  Kenneth Tigar . We start off with " Rage " from 1995. This is the story of an elementary sch...

Happy New Year! In this VERY special (and short) episode of the podcast, we look at the 16 films we watched for the podcast this year, and we rank them. There's a lot of common ground and some really fun tangents. We hope you enjoyed our output in 2025 and that you'll be back in the new year for even more fun in the cave! Don't forget to check which feed you're subscribed to before the next episod...

Episode 245 is focused on two sequels from the early 90's. We start off with 1993's " Pumpkinhead 2 " where they bring back the monster from Stan Winston 's original movie for a whole new story of small-town revenge. It's not as good as the original, but it has enough cheesy fun torecommend it. We follow that with " Gate 2 " from 1990, which is a much more successful follow-up. Picking up where th...

Our Halloween tradition continues with another look at "What Scares You?". This time it's those terrible little skittering creatures that make us jump and recoil, the infamous "creepy crawlies"!!! We have a couple of movies from different eras that both feature multi-legged monsters. From way back in 1975 comes " Bug " from genre stalwart Jeannot Szwarc . It's a surprisingly bleak and rough film,...

Episode 243 is upon you! We are gathered here today to celebrate the incredible Mr. Brett Piper . This dude has made a ton of movies over his career, but we picked two for the episode, 1986's " Battle for the Lost Planet " and 1988's " Mutant War ". Both tell the story of a future earth that has been invaded by evil aliens and our only hope is Harry Trent, played with a lot of charm in both movies...

Episode 242 is here with some fantastically fun scifi movies! We start off with " Slipstream " from 1989. Starring Mark Hamil l and Bill Paxton with a truly impressive upporting cast. It's an interesting post-apocalyptic story that largely focuses on AI and the ultimate question of just what makes something "alive". It has issues here and there but it's really throught-provoking and moves along at...

We are back for episode 241 where we look at an entirely different type of "mind crime". We start off with 1982's "The Clairvoyant" also known as "The Killing Hour". This focuses on an artist who has violent dreams that seem to be depicting a series of murders around the city. It's a totally solid thriller with a truly surprising twist at the end. We follow that with a real rarity, a film from 199...
