Our deeds VERIFY our words, and our words CLARIFY our deeds. How we live obediently as Christ-followers gives context to the message of the Gospel. As God’s people, we can count on the certainty of trials. And by His grace, we can also know and understand God’s purposes in them as we endure.

Our deeds verify our words, and our words clarify our deeds. The Gospel we proclaim, and the way which we live must go hand in hand. This is the purpose of James' letter. In this first section, James reminds us that as God’s people, we can count on the certainty of trials. But we can also know and understand God’s purposes in them as we go through them.

The American Church systems are giving us precisely what they are designed to produce - consumers of religious goods and services. We have been entrusted with the message of reconciliation between God and Man, and to is more than a command to be obeyed, or a suggestion to be considered. It is a sacred trust!

We can never find contentment in stuff, nor can we buy fulfillment. Being content is not rooted in our circumstances. So this Advent, worship Jesus, slow down, and seek to be a blessing to others!

When it comes to the Advent season, how do we recalibrate our souls? How do we get back to the real reason for the season? Everyone at that first Christmas gave their full worship to Jesus, and that’s what we need, as well. It's as simple as that. We desperately need His PRESENCE before we need our presents, and not just on Christmas morning.

Boasting in the Lord is the opposite of boasting in one’s self. Instead of drawing attention to ourselves, we draw attention to Christ. This boasting is a call for people to admire him as much as we admire him. We are seeking praise—for Christ’s worth - not our own glory!

The Christian life is not a passive experience, but an active engagement. God is not mocked, Whatever we’ve sown is what we will reap. So let us strive to sow with the Gospel and the things of the Kingdom, and to utilize our resources here and now to invest in eternity.

Jesus didn’t save you so you could sit and stagnate. That’s an illusion anyway as there is no such thing as stasis in this life. You don’t drift towards holiness - the Spirit leads you and you must follow, and the challenge is to stay in step with Him as He leads.

People have been searching for true and lasting freedom for thousands of years. Satan lied when he promised freedom from God and the one rule that governed humanity. God’s solution to our bondage has always been Jesus, who frees us from sin and death. So DO NOT return again to a yoke of slavery!

The use of word pictures is a powerful tool in communication. It can move a person beyond logic to emotion very quickly. Paul employs this tool in arguing against a legalistic shift that Paul rightly recognized as incredibly dangerous to the Gospel.

When it comes to the Church, and living life together, concerns are inevitable. How we communicate them matters, and so does how we receive them in humility. And while Christlike compassion isn’t always soft and gentle, the goal is always correction and the building up of the Body.

Just like earthly adoption, God brings us into his family as those who weren’t naturally His, and then legally makes us to be just like his Son. We are brought into a new family, and totally divested of our former way of life. God completely and totally changes who we are and what we get.

Jesus changes us when He comes to dwell inside us by His Spirit. The question we need to wrestle with is “Are we deliberately participating in the mission of Jesus in allowing Him to use us to impact lives for His Kingdom?”

The PURE Gospel changes us from rebellious sinners into the children of God. The OBJECTIVE TRUTH of the Gospel changes our OBJECTIVE REALITY. We call that our TESTIMONY!

Paul argues the point that God is the one we should aim to please. You will either live for the approval of man, or you will live for the approval of God, but you cannot do both!

PURE: Whole, uncorrupted, complete, without defect. Paul wrote to the churches of Galatia to contend against a false gospel that could not save. ANY Gospel that is note pure is NOT the Gospel.

Facilities and Finances are 2 things that most people in the church would rather avoid talking about. But the reality is that planning for the future requires that we do just that.

Emmaus Road Church exists to Build Disciples, Develop Leaders, and Multiply Churches. We do that by Loving God, Loving People, Living Generously. But to move into the future, we need to add staff, intentionally disciple, and grow the church.

Humility is that trait most exemplified in Christ which humans hate most, but which God loves most. Baptism is, at its core, essentially an act of public humility.

Baptism is not something God requires for salvation, but it is something God desires for His children!

Prophecy is the ultimate proof that the Bible is God's Word because only God knows the future!
