Dead Ends

As we approach the end of the season, everyone starts pairing up! We discuss all the pairings shacking up, the importance of the shower scene and Hannah’s agency, the Hastings horrible parenting, Jenna’s increased frequency of meddling, Spoby getting into dangerous situations, and the signal flare nature of Jenna’s flute. Brenton also suddenly remembers Noel which throws all of his guesses into qu...

Spencer and Toby start to get together and we couldn't be more excited. While we would love to just discuss their budding relationship there's also lots of other happenings like Caleb's Parasite-esque living situation, weird marriage drama, sniffing out conmen and missing cash, and a baby on the way for the happy couple of Melissa and Ian. You can find Homestuck Made This World and...

Fitz and Arias relationship starts to get hot and heavy but Brenton can’t get himself to not call him Mr. Fitz. We discuss the introduction of Caleb & Paige, the Marin’s tumultuous secrets, Emily’s liquid courage and the further trouble with Ian. We also try to suss out just how much money Hannah made at the dance. Episode 8 content warnings: homophobia, bullying, drowning, stalking Pretty Lit...

We get some troubling realizations about Ian, Noel threatens Fitz and we realize these people are all the same goddam age. We discuss the unwanted surprise party, Pam reaching new heights of homophobia, the horrors of juvy camp and a bad detour into an after school special. Brenton also shares fond memories of past neighbors and his full proof (note: probably wrong) theories about A. Episode 7 con...

The glamping trip of the year kicks off an exciting week and packed episode! We get more tantalizing reveals and secrets plus a strange visit from Alison in the hospital. We run down shifting character dynamics, the two "A's" theory, Noel's extremely weird white knight behavior, Fitz and Aria's important meeting in broad daylight, attempted murder by car, Emily's awfu...

Despite our seasonal allergies, Brenton comes out swinging with really confident predictions for where the show is going. Apart from the schadenfreude of Brenton being wrong we discuss the introduction of two new characters in Jason and Noel, Wildon finally getting checked & his appearance at the SATs, the amazing Mrs. Hastings, despair over the Byron-Ashley situation & the concept of &quo...

This is it, these are the episodes where to show takes off. Pretty Little Liars fully tilts over into the Soap opera plotlines and pays off big time. Our Homecoming extravaganza has us discussing our love for Toby, Fitz outdoing himself yet again, Spencer's lessons in class disparity and the severe mistreatment of Jenna. And wait a minute, who actually died? Episode 4 content warnings: murder...

This week the girls try to spurn A only to make them more powerful. As secrets start to spill out and things heat up in Rosewood we discuss Fitz showing his true colors, cheering for Hardy, Hannah's job situation and new career in espionage,  and Toby's life as an empath. Episode 3 content warnings: grooming, infidelity, stalking Pretty Little Liars season theme song "Secret of Tiki...

The show starts to move forward and immediately clarifies just what exactly is the "Jenna Thing." We discuss the situation with Wilden, more talk on the situation with Mr Fitz, the depiction of Hannah's body issues, and the hero of the locker room/loner Toby Cavanaugh.  Episode 2 content warnings: death, grooming, disordered eating, sexual abuse, body dysmorphia, fatphobia, homophob...

Welcome to Dead Ends! The new weekly podcast where we discuss mystery shows and starting off we're going to cover the teen drama Pretty Little Liars. Emily is a longtime fan of the show and is going to be taking Brenton through the entire series. We discuss the pilot episode, the wild events happening in Rosewood and it's relative lack of big mysteries. Content warnings: death, murder, g...

We've finally reached the end and we have a lot of negative feelings. We reckon with the huge incident, why Rob Thomas' reasonings don't add up, and posit some alternate the ways the show could've gone instead. Then we end with a series recap and our thoughts on the show as whole. Thank you to everyone who has joined us on this journey. It was a lot of fun and we learned a lot...

Keith & Veronica find themselves in a pickle and wouldn't you know it, Weevil and the boys ride in to help! But before we get there we get friends feeling betrayed, Veronica connecting the dots, & Clyde finding himself in between a rock and a hard place. We've only got one more episode left before it all wraps up! Theme Music from https://filmmusic.io"Inspired" by Kevin...

We're two episodes away from the finish and we're skeptical of the big mystery. We dig into our disappointment around the Clyde/Big Dick reveal, Leo's shady moves, & the inconsistent characterization around Weevil & Veronica's feud. We also talk about one of the episode's writers, Kareem Abdul-Jabbarr, and our history with sports. Theme Music from https://filmmusic...

Turns out Penn's a bit more resourceful than we thought! We deal with bugs in Mars Investigations, close friends that could actually be enemies, and tense moments with Logan. We also lament the fact that we don't get more Wallace and Weevil, but settle for our moments with Cliff and Vinny. How do you make setup fun? By bringing back lots of characters of course! We revisit season 3 in the form of multiple character cameos as the show starts to dig deeper into the bombing mysteries. We also rejoice in the return of Vinny and Leo and congratulate them on their respective career boons. Theme Music from https://filmmusic.io"Inspired" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com)L...

This episode moves Veronica's relationship troubles to the background and it's all the better for it. We discuss the great moments with Alonzo and Dodi, shocking turns in the case, and shady business with the Congressman. Best of all, we're excited about the shows smart decision to use the inciting incident of the show, the death of Lily Kane, to flesh out Veronica's character...

Lots of new mysteries afloat! Who is this new man Clyde and what is his angle? What are the Maloofs hiding? And why won't Veronica let Logan live in peace? It's a busy setup week in Neptune filled with ignorant white people both rich and poor. We also wish for a whole spin off starring our new favorite hitman duo. Theme Music from https://filmmusic.io"Inspired" by Kevin MacLeod...

It's the last season of Veronica Mars! We find that Veronica's fully back as a PI, Logan wants to settle down, & Wallace is leading a semi-charmed suburban life. There's also a bombing that has many different parties interested in the culprit! Exciting times around here and we're happy the shows good times are officially back. Theme Music from https://filmmusic.io"Insp...

We've arrived at the Veronica Mars movie! We find ourselves mostly enjoying the 2014 kickstarted revival, filled to the brim with fan nods and drama. Unfortunately we also get saddled with bad addiction metaphors, familiar series' problems, and Piz getting unceremoniously showed the door. But who can complain when we're seeing everyone again and Logan in a Navy uniform? Theme Music...

We've finally reached the end of the original run of Veronica Mars. What did we think? Well we've got a lot of thoughts about its very open-ended wrap up. We discuss where the show missed the mark in season 3 and the toxic ideas place throughout the show. Then we recap the events leading to the cancellation and the FBI pitch that Rob Thomas made to try and save the show. Theme Music from...

In the penultimate episode of season 3, we get the world's coldest beach day, Keith getting absolutely roasted on college radio, and a weird plan hatched by a bunch of rich kids that makes no sense. We're also treated to Piz's amazing one man show and we still can't make heads or tails of the eating situation at Hearst. Theme Music from https://filmmusic.io"Inspired"...

A mundane week in Neptune turns into a lot to talk about! We cover everyone's relationship troubles, Piz's sensitivity, the Invisible Children backed plot line and all of the problems with that organization (including talk of Kony 2012). But before we cover all that, we try our hand at some practice questions for the California PI exam. Theme Music from https://filmmusic.io"Inspired...

It's the Paul Rudd-isode! We get a special pairing of him and Piz, as Piz tries to teach him about the music and tamp down his gross interest in college girls. Meanwhile Veronica is weirdly tip toeing around the whole kiss thing? And we're also unfortunately stuck with Mac helping Logan do his homework. Theme Music from https://filmmusic.io"Inspired" by Kevin MacLeod (https://i...

One of our longest episodes is dealing with possibly the worst episode. Turns out we had a lot to unpack as the show tries to deal with racism and Israel & Palestine in the worst white moralistic way. We get no reprieve in Veronica's social life as Park and Logan seem to relentlessly bully her with her new relationship and even Mac sides with them. And on a smaller note, Keith turns into...

We're split on how the show wraps up the Dean O'dell mystery. We debate the investigation leading up to the reveals, Veronica's characterization, and discuss the ongoing Logan-Parker situation (three cheers for Wallace though). Next time we begin the final episodes of the original airing of Veronica Mars! Theme Music from https://filmmusic.io"Inspired" by Kevin MacLeod (ht...
