What does it look like when the King of the universe steps into the mud with sinners? In Matthew 3:13-17, we see one of the most unexpected and breathtaking moments in all Scripture: Jesus walks from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized alongside repentant sinners. This was not a moment of weakness or confusion. It was a deliberate, strategic act of radical solidarity. Just as David, the ano...

What do we do when the world feels like it is spiraling out of control and evil seems to be winning? In Matthew chapter 2, we are dropped into one of the most jarring scenes in all of Scripture — innocent children slaughtered, a young family forced to flee into a foreign land as refugees, and a ruthless ruler consumed by paranoia and power. It would be easy to look at this passage and ask where Go...

Three groups of people come face to face with the reality of a newborn King, and each one responds in a radically different way. The religious leaders knew the scriptures inside and out, could quote prophecy wi...

What if the very family tree of Jesus was filled with liars, murderers, prostitutes, and outcasts? That is exactly what Matthew reveals when he opens his Gospel not with fanfare or miracles, but with a genealogy. And far from being a dry list of names, this record is one of the most radical statements of grace in all of Scripture. We explore how God deliberately wove deeply flawed human beings int...

What if the most radical social revolution in history was hiding in plain sight inside a few verses about marriage, family, and work? In this exploration of Colossians 3 and 4, we dive into what scholars call the household code, and discover that Paul was not simply reinforcing the status quo of his day. He was detonating it from the inside. In the Roman world, the father of the household held abs...

The central idea is this: before God ever asks anything of us, He first tells us who we already are. We have died wi...

What does it mean to truly continue in the faith we first received? Colossians chapter 2 brings us face to face with one of the most searching questions of the Christian life. We began our walk with God on the basis of grace alone, not by our performance, our rule-keeping, or our religious effort. But how easy it is to drift from that starting point and begin trying to earn what was freely given....
