So, how does it stack up to the f...

THE ONE WITH THE FUNNY SUBWAY SILENCED PISTOLS SCENE. After the shocking success of the first film, John Wick: Chapter 2 was quickly greenlit, with the budget being doubled from its predecessor's. This film took the stylized comic-book-esque world that was previously built up to new heights, with new characters, locations, and especially lore. So, how does this film stack up to the first with all...

THE NUMBER ONE RULE OF THE CONTINENTAL: ALWAYS REMAIN CHASTE. When Keanu Reeves, Chad Stahelski, and David Leitch made the first John Wick back in 2014, it's fair to say none of them knew what it would do for their careers. While Stahelski and Leitch found themselves in vogue as directors, Keanu found his career revitalized, as the film spawned an entire universe of sequels and soon-to-be-made spi...

A.K.A. THE ONE WHERE IVAN IS THE SECOND MOST DIVORCED MAN IN THE WORLD. Continuing the Creed double-feature, Creed II had some massive shoes to fill. Not only after being delayed, but in the wake of Ryan Coogler stepping away from the director's chair due to being busy with Black Panther . Despite the setbacks, this movie managed to draw in massive amounts of hype and praise due to the returning I...

THIS IS WHAT MOVIES WERE MADE FOR. With Creed III on the horizon, the boys decided to celebrate with a special double-feature of the first two in the trilogy! Nine years after Stallone's swan song as the Italian Stallion, Ryan Coogler made a pitch for a continuation of the legacy in the form of a new franchise centering around the long-lost son of Apollo Creed. Nearly eight years later, this decis...

WAKE ME UP INSIDE! Before finding critical and commercial success with Charlie Cox and the Netflix series, the character of Daredevil was only able to make the transition from page to screen twice. While the first time in Spider-Man: The Animated Series was fondly remembered, the 2003 live-action film starring Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner was, safe to say, fondly remembered for reasons not inte...

"NO! IT'S JUST DUMB!" After the success of 2019's Knives Out , Netflix was quick to swoop in and snatch up Rian Johnson with a $1 Million deal to make two more entries exclusively for their platform. Despite the pandemic slowing down the plans, the deal managed to come to fruition as Glass Onion finally hit the scene at the end of 2022! So, after all the anticipation, how does it live up to its pr...

" IN FOR A PENNY!" With the recent critical acclaim for Glass Onion , the boys decided to go back to where it started! Hot off the heels of his -- to put it mildly -- divisive take on Star Wars , Rian Johnson decided to go back to his roots for his next project: a whodunnit called Knives Out . Stacked with an incredible ensemble cast, this film made a ton of buzz before a trailer even released, an...

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO JESSE PINKMAN? While Breaking Bad ended on one of the most satisfying notes a TV show could end on, many viewers were left with one question on their mind: What happens to Jesse? Does he get to escape? Does he get captured again? Does he get back to work? After years of speculation and theories, Vince Gilligan and co. finally decided to answer their audience once and for all...

ALSO KNOWN AS SOCIETY-MAN: GAMERS RISE UP . Joker is a movie that poses the question: "If you rip off Scorsese and slap a known IP on it, how many awards can you get nominated for and win?" The answer is, apparently a lot. Ever since its announcement, Todd Phillips' take on the Clown Prince of Crime has been one of the most controversial comic book adaptations of all time, with critics and audienc...

" STAR WARS DIED AFTER ATTACK OF THE CLONES IN THIS UNIVERSE." - BRIAN, 2023 After many years of development hell, and a few more years of production, The Last of Us has finally made its (relatively easy compared to other games) transition to live action in the form of an HBO original series developed by Chernobyl 's Craig Mazin and Druckmann himself! While some of the PR leading up to the premier...

"I AM THE SOURCE WALL, WALL OF THE SOURCE." DC has been pumping out animated movies like nobody's business ever since the 2000's, so much so that they made most of them into their own little cinematic universe. In light of recent conclusions to multi-year and multi-project storylines, such as Marvel's Endgame and the CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths , the DC animated movie team decided to wipe their...

IT'S TIME TO WATCH SOME GARBAGE! Our tracks thus far, aside from a few exceptions, have mostly been competently made films that we enjoy to some degree. Because we can never be satisfied with peace, we have decided to declare war on ourselves by watching some of the worst films out there! And to start off, Alec has chosen an absolute stinker from his childhood, one of the worst spoof movies of all...

"WELL GANG, WE REALLY WERE A NEON GENESIS EVANGELION (1995)." Much of Evangelion 3.0 was made the way it was due to the intent of it being part one of a two-part final chapter, with part two initially set to release just one year later in 2013. However, due to Anno's declining mental health, the movie was put on indefinite hold, with no clear release for years. Fortunately, once he felt healthy en...

"LOOK AT OUR CGI MODELS PLEASE LOOK AT THEM." After the release of Evangelion 2.0 in 2009, fans were desperate to see where the story went next in this new and unpredictable timeline, especially when they caught a glimpse after the credits. However, much like the original series itself, things didn't exactly go according to plan, and the film that released was nothing like anyone expected. You Can...

HEY, THIS IS JUST LIKE THAT ONE MOVIE. After the release of 1.0 in 2007, it's an understatement to say that fans were eager to see where Anno was taking this remake of his story, especially considering all the significant changes and additions to the story. When 2.0 finally hit theaters in 2009, it received bountiful amounts of praise from critics and general audiences, but over time it's been loo...

I KNOW WHAT THIS IS, I'VE PLAYED FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE Like many artists, Hideaki Anno is a perfectionist, especially when it comes to thinking about how to improve and be satisfied with his prior work. In order to scratch that itch, he set out a plan to completely remake his magnum opus, Neon Genesis Evangelion , into a trilogy of animated films, setting out to fulfill the original vision he h...

THE FATE OF DESTRUCTION IS THE JOY OF REBIRTH The boys have decided to marathon all the Evangelion movies (sans Death & Rebirth ), and where better to start than the most iconic of them all? The End of Evangelion had a lot riding on it when it hit theaters 25 years ago, mainly to be a satisfying true ending to its iconic predecessor. What we got in turn is one of the most visceral pieces of ar...

I WONDER IF THIS MOVIE IS BEING META Nearly twenty years after Revolutions , Warner Bros. finally twisted Lana Wachowski's arm just enough for her to come back and make a fourth one! However, despite being a movie that doesn't need to exist for many reasons, Lana found a way to make it more than just another legacy sequel. Woven into the story is an outlet for her frustrations with the film indust...

THE BEST LIVE ACTION ANIME After the murky reception to Reloaded , less people were excited for its soon-releasing followup, The Matrix Revolutions . The film ended up making even less, and as of today, it's the lowest critically-rated film of the franchise. However, Alec and Brian simply won't let that be, as the movie was too powerful and too raw for people to handle in 2003. Don't believe it? T...

ERGO, VIS-À-VIS, CONCORDANTLY, ETC. After the surprising smash hit of the first Matrix in 1999, Warner Bros. decided to go balls-to-the-wall with their faith in this franchise, greenlighting a two-parter and essentially giving the Wachowskis carte blanche to do whatever they wanted. The first part of their efforts was The Matrix Reloaded , releasing in May of 2003, and despite all the hype going i...

"WHAT'S AN EMP?" - A COMPUTER HACKER It's no secret that The Matrix is one of the most beloved and significant sci-fi films of the past few decades, regardless of the times it shows its age. While people debate back and forth about its three sequels, the first film is held on a pedestal to this day, and for good reason. So, kick back and tune in with Alec and Brian as they watch the very first Mat...

THE SECOND RENAISSANCE: FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY! The Matrix franchise is inspired by several anime, such as Ghost in the Shell , and as we'll see in a later episode, Dragon Ball Z . So, instead of shying away from it, the Wachowskis and Warner Bros. decided to do something completely unprecedented to celebrate the releases of Reloaded and Revolutions : contracting multiple anime studios to produc...

"TAG, YOU'RE IT!" Like many others, Doctor Who is a show that Alec and Brian have years of nostalgia and love for, even at its worst. While the latter hasn't caught up on the later seasons, Alec has stayed throughout the Capaldi and Whittaker eras, the latter being the rockiest in the show's revival when it comes to consistency and quality. However, with The Power of the Doctor being a surprise hi...

DO YOU GET IT? IT'S BAD ON PURPOSE! Another day, another Sony Marvel film that gets meme'd so hard into oblivion that people mistake it as sincere praise. While it has its defenders, there's no denying that Jared Leto's Morbius is the laughingstock of 2022. A long time ago, Brian and Alec made a blood pact to watch this movie for a commentary track, and just for you, they both held off on seeing i...
