Anime Was (Not) A Mistake

On this week's episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake we return once more to Cardcaptor Sakura on her quest to transform the Clow cards, through her own magic. There are still many strange, happenings all around town and a constant presence of the long believed dead Clow Reed. Syaoran is still at ends with confessing his true feelings to Sakura, despite Tomoyo's gentle guidance. Eriol is still just...

Spooktoberfest 2026 comes to a semi-sinister end with 2024’s Immaculate. Sydney Sweeney stars as Sister Cecilia (say that five times fast), who became a novice nun after inexplicably surviving a childhood accident. After receiving a personal invitation from Father Sal Tedeschi, Sister Cecilia joins the Our Lady of Sorrows convent in Italy. The convent is ostensibly meant to care for elderly nuns,...

Time to don our habits once again in this episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake’s Spooktoberfest 2026 Sinister Six. Picture it, 1971, Rome. We find ourselves  following a novitiate nun, Margaret as she prepares herself to give herself to God. When things begin to turn dark at the Vizzardeli Orphanage, it is clear an evil Catholic conspiracy has been laid in place for far longer than any of us. Laug...

Before the season turns sinister, it’s time for Spooktoberfest to enter its final configuration. 1987’s Hellraiser begins with the hedonistic Frank Cotton purchasing a puzzle box said to unlock otherworldly pleasures. Instead, the box summons the Cenobites—demonic, sadomasochistic “priests” from another dimension—who claim Frank as their latest torture victim. Unaware of his brother’s fate, Larry...

On this week's episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake's Spooktoberfest 2026 we head to a place far worse than Hell, at least for Dan Ryan. Your two little podcasting devils are headed to The Big Apple and moving into The Bramford in 1968's Rosemary's Baby. Midwestern charm incarnate; Rosemary Woodhouse seemingly has it all. A handsome (if not bordering on douchebag ) actor of a husband, a lavish/sty...

Spooktoberfest continues with the 1988 cult classic Pumpkinhead, a terrifying tale of vengeance written and directed by special-effects legend Stan Winston. Ed Harley’s peaceful life is shattered when his son is mortally injured by a group of teenage campers. Ed seeks the help of an old witch, but bringing the dead back to life is beyond her power. Instead, consumed by grief and rage, he has her s...

Are you seated comfortably children? Good. Then let us begin the pod. On this week's dimly lit episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake Spooktoberfest event we are walking the many haunted halls of Alejandro Amenabar's The Others (2001). Patron saint of the podcast, Nicole Kidman, is here to instruct in the strict, yet caring way that we all enjoy so much. A giant house, a few rambunctious creepy chil...

Spooktoberfest 2026 continues with a direct-to-video vacation to sunny California. 1989’s Puppet Master is a story about love, loss, betrayal, a small number of puppets, and lots and lots of leeches. A group of psychics are lured to the Bodega Bay Inn to attend the funeral of shady telepath Neil Gallagher. Neil had abandoned his friends years earlier while trying to uncover the secrets of reanimat...

There's something in the air, once again, on Anime Was (Not) A Mistake. Could it be? It has to be ... Catholic Guilt! That's right Jonathan and Dan welcome you in novitiates to the convant of Spooktoberfest 2026! They always spoke of your beauty, and now I see it with my own eyes and it is true. First on this year's bill is the topical, controversial, and utter "nunsense" that is Ken Russel's The...

On the remote Infant Island, Takuya’s exped...

An ominous black smoke is issuing from Drawing Board-kun on this episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake. Though King Ghidorah has been defeated, we’re not done with evil dragons just yet. Last time on Dragon Ball GT, Goku and his friends, they had just finished gathering the Dragon Balls in order to undo the damage from Super 17’s attack. Instead of Shenron, however, a sinister-looking, chain-smokin...

The future isn’t looking too bright in 1991’s Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah. With the Anti-Nuclear Energy Bacteria having failed to stop Godzilla, Japan faces certain doom if the kaiju makes landfall again. Suddenly, a group of visitors arrive from the future and offer a solution: they will travel back in time to kill Godzilla before atomic radiation made him the monster he is today. But can history...

A long-ago planted seed begins to grow as Anime Was (Not) A Mistake's Summer of Dan event continues to bloom. There are some rose beds that should not be disturbed and when Godzilla, human and plant cells are combined things are going to get heady in Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989). After the sudden death of his daughter, the grief addled Dr. Shiragami will not let the thorny limits of the natural w...

Our humble little podcast takes its first gargantuan steps into the Heisei Era with a reboot/sequel to the original Kaiju film that started it all. When a...

After Control Spires started popping up across the globe, the DigiDestined embarked on a “world tour” of sorts to set things right. To avoid an international incident, and an oddly sexy Santa, we’re gonna go ahead and skip that part entirely. Instead, we’ll dive like Submarimon straight into the endgame of Digimon Adventure 02. Yukio Oikawa, the enigmatic human who commands Arunkenimom and Mummymo...

Determined to help the old man get his groove back, Lupin decides to bring down the notorious arms smugglers “Shot Shell” and give Zenigata all the credit. The first step in Lupin’s plan inv...

Well, there are worse things than recording a theater/anime podcast on a Sunday? In a fictional, yet powerful examination of Georges Seurat's life in painting li...
