A Guy, A Bride, and A Bible

Isaiah 44 opens with Yahweh destroying the practice of idol worship. Then he ties up our Isaiah text with the most beautiful call to return to Him. Y’all it’s real in the Word. He utterly condemns the evil but He loves His kids. Jesus speaks to His inevitable return. Job, well he’s still a mess.

Isaiah 42:10-43:28; Luke 16-17:10; Job 9:25-35 all have a thread in common. Each of our readings show us both the powerful mercy of Yahweh upon His children and unrelenting justice upon the disobedient enemies.

In our Christian coffee cup culture where verses are overused and misplaced, consider sticking Isaiah 41:24 right there. We are reading from Isaiah 41, Luke 15, and Job 9

Ignore the part where Mark tries to sing Hansel’s Messiah, and you’ll be just fine. We are reading Isaiah 39-40; Luke 14; and Job 9:11-19.

Our reading has this thread woven throughout. Yahweh is a God of Justice, and we ought to be people of Justice.

Isaiah rings true for more than Judah and Samaria. Jesus sends 72 out in Luke. Job is getting a little sassy.

In Isaiah 25-26, we read about the final victory of Yahweh; Luke tells the story of Jesus sending out the disciples to proclaim His Kingdom; Job responds to his friend and God for the first time. A special shout out to Philip Yancey at the end, you’ll want to listen through the end for Bride’s story of suffering. “Where is God When it Hurts” is a must read if you are going through something.

We are all settled in Texas y’all. So, let’s get into a new reading from Connecting the Testaments.

Y’all, we have been busy for a minute. We let the big news fly in the first section for our loyal friends on the opening minutes. Our reading is Exodus 19-20; John 4:1-26; Song of Solomon 2: 14-17.

Yahweh unleashes the plagues on Pharoah. Jesus unleashes His first of many miracles with wine. Solomon unleashes his romantic side.

We are almost through Genesis. Joseph finally gathers Israel and company into Egypt. Hebrews marks him in the Hall of Faith, and Ecclesiastes let’s us know just how bad it is to get old and things break down on a man.

Genesis- Joseph saves the world from famine, but Israel becomes slaves for the next 400 years. Hebrews 10- Because Christ bore the wrath of God to make us Perfect forever. Ecclesiastes wraps it all up 11:9 (LEB): Follow the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes— but know that God will bring you into judgment for all these things

Joseph, a typical last born child and 17y/o, is betrayed by Family. Jesus is betrayed by a close friend, and Ecclesiastes reminds us we all die in the end. Not exactly an encouraging episode. Genesis- Something bad happens to Dinah, and something worse happens to an entire village of men. Matthew- Jesus warns the worthless servant and reveals what it’s gonna look like when he returns. Ecclesiastes- “Be not hasty to go from his presence. Do not take your stand in an evil cause, for he does whatever he pleases.” ‭‭
