You left the quilt where you buried him, and a part of you wishes to never find your way to that pile of rocks because it means you can pretend he's out there somewhere, napping under the cool midday sun. This week the gang continues their analysis of Peter Heller's...

The book itself you recall - the sentiment, the heft of it. And if you really concentrate, you can remember some of the words, but never complete sections. You wonder idly if there's a copy left in the wold now that it has emptied. You imagine probably in the basement of a church or tucked into the pocket behind a seat in an abandoned car. This week we talk through Denzel Washington's action flick...

Apocalypse and endings. Literature. Meaning. It all blows away on the sands of a dead shore. A counterspectacle of what was, alighting some part of how it came to be, yes, and some part of what it could have been. We are ruinous creatures, aren't we? This week: the end of Cormac McCarthy's legendary novel The Road and it's bleak. Shocker. Support Us Merch & Books: underink.press The Publicatio...

Rain spoils against your back. You can feel the damp on your neck and inside your rotting shoes. The ropes binding your pack chafe, and you wonder, idly, if you were always meant for this. You think perhaps you were. That in some other heaven where things did not go wrong that you were the omen that brought everything down. Freezing to death. A reprieve in a mysterious bunker. The team continues t...

You iron the shirt one more time, just in case. Your partner watches you from the corner of their eye, pretending to be distracted by the news. You've had it on for a week straight now, muted with the subtitles on. Barely able to leave the couch save for the essentials. You keep waiting for the moment it turns out to be a mistake. Of course it's a mistake. And then very suddenly it's the *the* nig...

The novel prickles in your grasp. The sweat on your fingertips make turning the pages easier, but the sense of an axe about to fall remains. You glance up from the words: the gardener is attending the rhododendrons by the edge of the terrace, and once again you feel a flutter of anticipation.
