On 18 January 1982, Imelda Marcos walked up a red carpet in peacock feathers to open the first Manila International Film Festival. Hollywood stars were there. Champagne flowed. The Greek-style temple on Manila Bay was supposed to make the city the Cannes of the East. Two months earlier, in the middle of the night, part of the building had collapsed on the workers racing to finish it. Rescuers were...

A 63 year old starts on a 100 mile charity bike ride through the Highlands of Scotland. It was a big undertaking but Tony Parsons had done epic charity events before having walked Hadrian's Wall and the West Highland Way. Somewhere between the Bridge of Orchy hotel and Tyndrum he vanishes, no sign of him or his bike or any evidence that Tony was even there. Three years go by and there is nothing....

A case I swore I would never do because it's just so awful but when you visit Illinois on a tour of the US States by true crime and paranormal cases it's sort of hard to avoid.  This episode comes with all the trigger warnings though I do try to avoid the gory detail it is not for the fainthearted - for lack of a better word, there is no judgement that comes with having to skip this episode.  Befo...

In 1990, a convicted murderer walked out of an Austrian prison to a hero's welcome — celebrated by novelists, praised by a future Nobel laureate, held up as proof that even a killer could be remade into an artist. Five months later, women started disappearing again. This episode traces the double life of Jack Unterweger: the "Poet of Death" who charmed Austria's literary elite, worked as a journal...

For over fifty years, if someone was going to be hanged in Britain, chances were it would be a Pierrepoint holding the lever. Henry, Thomas and Albert Pierrepoint were Britain's most extraordinary family of state executioners — three generations who between them hanged approximately nine hundred people, including Nazi war criminals, British traitors, serial killers, and at least one man who was al...

On the night of 27th January 1963, five people were shot across the suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. Four attacks. One night. No apparent connection. It would take months before police understood what they were dealing with. Years before the full truth came out. And decades before two innocent men — wrongfully convicted of crimes committed by the same killer — finally had their names cleared....

From its discovery as a revo...

But then a body is discovered in a cabin just 2 blocks from the family home, and the story becomes so strange that...
