The Graveyard Shift Horror Podcast

What do you get when you take a John Carpenter fanboy that worked with Rob Zombie and mix it with A list horror talent? You get ....well this. For a guy that came up making haunted house attractions, it shows some technical prowess and some genuine originality. Tony Todd is in this movie. For all the good and the bad that brings out in us. But we have plenty to say about the true star of the movie...

This finished up Back to School and since we began with Graduation Day, we are ending at the start with a new classroom of victims at Splatter University. This is a troma film, and .... it shows. Mike is still back in school and we are taking some exams. Some people won't make it to next semester and you will have to listen in to find out who. Unfortunately Mike is sick so his dulcet tones are more smokes and whisky. While Mike is actually back in school, and just getting started, we decided to begin our matriculation in reverse with Graduation Day! This is a film that is utterly chaotic and as unhinged as its lead killer. But, hey! We get music by new wave sensation Felony, whether we like it or not. We have a webpage where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. Also subscribe to our mo...

We do have a theme for this month but first we pay tribute to the man who first gave us Pennywise, and one of the best looking devils out there, Tim Curry. We recently lost him after a long battle with declining health, and had to give the LEGEND his due, with a review of a film that might not be exactly horror, but he is Satan basically so that counts for something. This is the edited version of...

If you wake up with blood on your clothes and a bone clad machete, youuuu might be a killer. Oddly not based on Jeff Foxworthy's unheard of collaboration with Sean Cunningham, but on a series of tweets that got the Shit My Dad Says treatment. This features Fran Kranz and Allyson Hannigan deducing the most obvious plot twist in a movie that suffers more chronal whiplash than pulp fiction, and the a...

We have hit the most ambitious of summer camp slashers; an excursion into grief, friendship, tropes, and fate, this was written by someone processing their feelings of loosing a parent known for being a horror icon. It follows Max, the daughter of a scream queen, who find herself literally IN her mothers most famous movie, Camp Bloodbath. With her friends, and their knowledge of the film, they mus...

We got that summertime, summertime madness! This week we are at cheerleader Camp where we are free from the Weinstein influence, but this director and producer, and several actors are porn actors, and it kinda shows. It also shows they want to be Meatballs, and they also want to do Sleepaway camp. They want to do a lot of things with this movie, but do they pull it off? The plot is, it's a cheerle...

We Have Josh back on the show to discuss the horror that gave us both Miramax films and Jason Alexander and Fisher Stephens and Holly Hunter. So a mixed bag in terms of its legacy. but what was the movie itself like? Listen and find out! We have a webpage where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. Also subscribe to our monthly newsletter for updates on upcoming films, and...

Are you ready for the summer? Are you ready for the sunshine? Are you ready for the drugs and sex, a mommy complex, and a whole lotta stabbing around? We are, and we're taking you to Camp Killateen as we spend the month in the woods where nobody will hear you scream. Our first activity is machete swinging with instructor Vorhees making his cinematic debut in Friday the 13th Part 2. We have a webpa...

We end Patreon Back Appreciation Month with Matt (who you can join in such rewards as this, by supporting the show) with a story of a bow hearing voices in the wall, and learning how to deal with abusive parents and bullies. It also has a bear in it. The secret theme for this month apparently. We have a webpage where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. Also subscribe to o...

Matt's patronage of our show made this month possible so be sure to thank/blame him for making us watch this slasher film from the late 70's that couldn't air in England due to being one of the Video Nasties. A man kills hookers to appease an Aztec God. but does it in Mayan style. because South and Central Americans are the same to the producers of this film. We have a webpage where you can tip us...

We still have Matt with us as this is his month after supporting the show, and it could be yours too! We stay on the patreon backer appreciation theme, and also we stay with playful evil bears as we got a evil toy that's less scary than Chucky but more dynamic than Annabelle. We have a webpage where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. Also subscribe to our monthly newslet...

This month's theme is a first, celebrating those that backed the Patreon and kept the candle lights on. As we promised, those that support us get extra perks, and that includes getting an entire month of their picks at all once! In fact, that backer is here to join us for tonights episode, covering Five Nights at Freddy's. We have a webpage where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and the...

We are wrapping up our split marathon month with a LGBT vamp comedy called Bite Marks. We have some thoughts on it, and so many in fact that they can't fit in one regular episode, so it will be released in its entirety on our patreon where Alicia shares her thoughts on Heated Rivalry, fight choreography, trailer disposal, bible effectiveness against vampires, and plenty more you won't hear here! E...

We have an indigenous film from Canada on the docket today, as we review Shadow of the Hawk. Submitted by Mike for simply having one awesome scene with a car wreck, we endeavour to see if there is anything else worth remembering about this film. There is, but that's not entirely a good thing. We have a webpage where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. Also subscribe to ou...

What do you get when you want to remake Rosemary's baby for the 21st century, but you don't know what made it stand out in its own time, AND you want to give your girlfriend a starring role but she can't act, AND you also don't have enough footage to make a 90 minute movie and you can't hire a GOOD writer? You make Lyle. We have a webpage where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme...

We have an Indigenous film that wags a finger at colonialism's plucky little sidekick, missionaries, as they realize their God isn't the only one in these parts, and they have to acknowledge someone they only see as a heathen is actually the most equipped to help them deal with a certain possession problem. This is pretty good. We have a webpage where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions an...

We are splitting this pride month between the LGBT and Indigenous pride months, to celebrate both groups contribution to horror. We begin with The Siren, about a lake monster pursued by 2 men, however both want her for different reasons. There is plenty good in here, but also a lot of nothing to drag it out, and also a lot lacking. we got thoughts. Also Mike plays the siren in the skit as it was f...

We are finishing our month of dancing in the pale moonlight with Handsome Devils, and we have a special guest joining us for it, writer Adam Tierny. He has written comics , video games and is now here to gush about Constantine (2005) who was a major inspiration on his upcoming work . We hope you enjoy hearing it as much as we enjoyed making it. We have a webpage where you can tip us to send us mov...

We finally get a Schwarzenegger film on the podcast, and the impressions are abundant as the laughs. This is easily one of Arnold's worst movies, but there is plenty of good seeds here. They weren't properly watered of course. This episode was trimmed to a bit over an hour for our leaner meaner format but energy cannot be destroyed, only transferred, so out podcast energy is over at Pateron , wher...

We are still dancing with handsome devils by the pale moonlight, and we have been utterly smitten by Al Pacino, who isn't quite handsome. Leaving us asking "How did THAT happen?" Our Mike Notes are in top form, and there's one kill we all thoroughly enjoyed. So enjoy our debrief of "The Devil's Advocate" We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months....

Alicia is giving into temptation this month as we witness the power of handsome devils! We begin with the Prophecy. Christopher Walken steals the show from Elias Koteas who tried to be a leading man after losing the spotlight to 4 turtles, and triggering the end of days by doing something with the soul of a cannibal that had a military tribunal but also...died outside of prison. There's some reall...

Kate from Daley Kreations is back to talk about Phil Tippets 30 year passion project, Mad God. This breaks our new 1 hour format, since it's almost beyond critique and really needs a lot of explanation. It's something to behold, and quite an ending to Animation April. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If you would like to make continued...

There's 2 movies about bunnies that 90's kids remember. The one that gave them nightmares and the one that gave them interesting dreams once puberty hit. But there's no way we would be reviewing Space Jam, so we bring you the nightmare fuel that is Watership Down . Alicia is busy moving and was unable to record, so we are joined by Mikes friends and the proprietor of Daley Kreations , Kate! Kate d...
