Scare Value Podcast

Having miscounted weeks until Christmas the Scare Value Boys resort to their old standby...the watch-along.  After having so much fun watching a random movie that feels like fall...they decide to check out a movie that feels nothing like winter...2025's Dangerous Animals.  They have the time of their lives. Instructions to watch with us are at the beginning of the episode. Check out our stuff on h...

Ken joins us from Taiwan for the annual After Thanksgiving Mashed Potato Mashup.  We're talking about a bunch of movies we missed this year...with special focus on two of the best:  Sinners and Weapons.  There will be plenty of quick hits on other 2025 movies...and the usual load of nonsense. Check out our stuff on https://scarevalue.com

Our new annual tradition of giving thanks to an actor for their horror work continues this Thanksgiving Eve with a look at Toni Collette's best horror movies.  We're talking about The Sixth Sense (1999), Fright Night (2011) and, of course, Hereditary (2018).  Three moms.  One Toni Collette.  A lot of thanks. Check out our stuff on https://scarevalue.com

The Scare Value Boys have an unexpected blast watching this year's killer clown slasher movie Clown in a Cornfield.  Will you enjoy it as much as they did...or was there just a gas leak in the basement?  Cats are falling out of ceilings; bad guys look like Elon Musk and the most obvious unmasking reveal of all time on this week's Scare Value Podcast. Check out our stuff on https://scarevalue.com

Mark returns to the podcast to talk about the 2015 movie The Final Girls.  At least for as long as they can manage before Pete and Bryan pull the discussion off the rails again.  How will Pete deal with the emotional complexity of the story?  Did they really make a movie where Kate Winslet falls in love with Jack Black?  Is Ellis from Die Hard the true hero of that movie?  All this and more in thi...

The Scare Value Boys celebrate Godzilla week with a look back at one of the best kaiju battle movies ever made...Godzilla vs. Destoroyah from 1995.  It's the end of an era for the King of the Monsters...and a first-time watch for Pete.  Will he agree with Bryan's assessment that this is top tier Godzilla?  Or is Bryan just blinded by this movie's love for his favorite character Dr. Daisuke Serizaw...

Pete and Kitty detail their recent trip through Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights.  Just in time for the event to be over and leave you unable to attend.  They also touch on a local haunted house trip while Bryan patiently waits to talk about film festivals he's covering.  Plus...all the usual nonsense on this bonus episode of Scare Value Podcast. Check out our stuff on https://scarevalu...

Ten years after the original Halloween redefined slasher films forever...Halloween 4 brought Michael Myers and Dr. Loomis back for another round of Loomis or Myers!  That's right...the Scare Value Podcast Halloween tradition continues with a watch-along of Halloween 4.  Instructions to watch along with us are at the start of the episode.  Or...just listen without watching.  It's never really matte...

The Scare Value Boys try something new!  This week Pete and Bryan sit down to talk about all things Halloween.  The movie franchise...not the holiday.  They endeavor to find a definitive ranking of the long running series.  13 movies...some of the great...some of them fine...some of them so bad they're good...some of them directed by Rob Zombie...one of them starring Busta Rhymes.  How will the ra...

The Scare Value Boys return to Indonesia (really not really this time) to watch the sequel to Satan's Slaves.  It's a first time watch for one of them...you can probably guess which one.  He also can't remember anything about it despite watching it very recently.  Now you definitely know which one.  What will they think of Joko Anwar's continuing Satan's Slave story?  Come for the answer...stay fo...

It's that time of year again...time to try and convince Pete that The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a masterpiece.  This year we watch it side by side with Pete's preferred entry in the series...The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2.  It's a dual screen watch-along!  Will this finally convince Pete that Tobe Hooper's original is great?  Or will he get swept up in the comedic moments of Hooper's 12 years lat...

The Scare Value Boys are back with something special...a look at the 1990 masterpiece Frankenhooker.  As usual...it's a first-time watch for one of them.  Will he love this beautiful piece of B-movie madness as much as his co-host?  There are exploding prostitutes.  Of course he will.  Will they wander off track to discuss Stone Temple Pilots concerts and the 1996 Keanu Reeves movie Chain Reaction...

We're back with our annual Spooky Season Spectacular!  Kitty joins Pete and Bryan to look at all the big horror releases coming out between now and Halloween.  At least...all the releases we knew about at the time of this recording.  If you want to know what you should be checking out this October...you're just a click away from finding out. Check out our stuff on https://scarevalue.com

With this year's Spooky Season Spectacular postponed for a week the Scare Value boys discuss two 80s horror comedies.  Pete picked this week's movies...and Bryan is left dumfounded after watching his picks.  If you remember watching House and House II: The Second Story as a kid...what better way to revisit them then by listening to two middle aged men argue about what in the world was happening in...

The Scare Value Podcast returns to the Bates Motel to check in on our old friend Norman.  That's right...we're doing Psycho II this week.  The sequel no one wanted that holds up far better than it has any right to.  Instead of taking the easy road and producing a cheap slasher to fit the movies of the time...Psycho II delivers a deep character study...posing the question "Will society ever let som...

By popular demand, Watch-Alaugust becomes Watch-Alember...for one week.  Having lost out on a week of August watch-alongs due to an unavoidable body swapping incident...the Scare Value Boys sit back and watch Re-Animator as it prepares to celebrate its 40th anniversary.  Instructions to watch along are inside...or just listen without bothering to do that.  You know it doesn't make much of a differ...

With the rift between the Scare Value Boys threatening the future of the podcast...Pete and Bryan sit down for a little couples therapy on this bonus episode.  Pete is holding a grudge about several lies told, and hurtful choices made by, Bryan recently on the podcast.  Bryan is equally upset about Pete's being angry about those very real things that he did.  Can they work through their issues and...

Bryan tricks Pete into watching the 2024 smash hit musical Wicked.  It does not go over well.  Anticipating Pete's negative reaction...Bryan has a special surprise to help him get through the 2 hour and 40 minute movie.  Will it be enough?  Is their partnership heading towards an end?  Will Bryan trick Pete into watching Wicked: For Good next year?   Instructions to watch along with us are just a...

Watch-Alaugust continues with a watch-along of Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece, Psycho.  It turns 65 this year...what better way to celebrate than by watching it with two people who don't know what they're talking about?  Grab your copy of the mother of all slasher movies...instructions to watch with us are just a click away. Check out all our stuff on https://scarevalue.com

Our new annual tradition Watch-Alaugust kicks off a week late due to some unavoidable body swapping.  Pete may not like watch-alongs...but he loves a rebranding.  And, as it turns out, The Return of the Living Dead.  Joins us for one of the most fun movies of the mid-80s.  Instructions to watch with us just a click away. Check out our stuff on https://scarevalue.com

Pete and Bryan have spent the week in each other's bodies as the result of an unexpected body swap.  What better time could there be to watch 2020's slasher comedy/body swap movie Freaky?  Spoiler...they spend more time talking about 2025's Superman and arguing about what they've learned in the last week than discussing the movie they were supposed to cover.  This is a weird one.   Check out our s...

The Scare Value Podcast heads to Taiwan to wrap up its trip through Asian cinema.  It gives Pete the chance to exact revenge for a laundry list of aggravations.  As crazy as 2021's The Sadness is...this episode might be even crazier.  Pete invites a special guest to join the discussion.  Since they're in Taiwan you probably already figured out who that is.  Eventually...the simmering anger between...

The Scare Value Boys (fake) expedition through Asia continues with a look at 2004's Shutter from Thailand.  In this episode we learn that Pete believes in ghosts but not the subtitles he's reading.  So, yeah...the trip is going exactly as well as it has been going. Check out our stuff on https://scarevalue.com

The Scare Value Boys' trip to Asia continues in Indonesia for a discussion of Joko Anwar's Satan's Slaves from 2017.  Pete is still angry that Indonesia looks an awful lot like his basement...but Bryan is excited to revisit a modern classic.  Will Pete be able to overcome his negative Nelly attitude and enjoy the spooky movie?  Join us in Indonesia to find out. Check out our stuff on https://scare...

The Scare Value Boys continue their (fake) tour of Asia with a loving look at South Korean masterpiece Train to Busan.  Pete puts his anger away just long enough to gush over the zombie movie...or, at least, he directs it at the child star instead of his podcast partner.  Plus...they attempt to recast the film's lead roles for an American remake.  It goes exactly like you expect it to. Check out o...
