Back on schedule, but not entirely back on track. I think the term is mixed bag. Adam shows off some records, Kate enjoyed the homework, and we get a little lost in comic book and movie talk. We also play a game of wondering who’s carrying the torch for the bands we grew up with. Eventually, Kate gets in their feelings about the new Fiddlehead.

Mail time. Kate enjoys Pulling Teeth, the band, not the dental procedure, and we take a brief detour into Adam’s homework for next week before getting into new music. Adam shows off some mail and talks about Rodney Barger’s killer finally being brought to justice. Kate gets emotional about ’68 in particular and the work of Josh Scogin more broadly. Adam found Uniform challenging, but ultimately rewarding. Finally, we go in on a brand-new fest in the epicenter of progressive culture: Syracuse, New York.

Recorded second, released first. We show off our mail, Kate reports back that Rot in Hell is dope, and then we spend the rest of the episode on Furnace Fest, its few high points, and its many low points. Kate gets big mad. Adam, somewhat less so.

Our first guest, JX from Common Ground, joins us to talk about the great state of West by God Virginia, its hardcore scene, and its history. We had other plans for this episode, but they got sidelined, and it was absolutely worth it to just let JX go off. Go listen to his band.

Exactly what it says on the tin: 2009 releases. Turns out it was a pretty great year for hardcore and adjacent music. Yes, we forgot to talk about the first Harms Way full-length and had to patch it in afterward. No, the irony is not lost on us. Does that make us level 10 pose dawgs? It certainly does not help.

Back to form. Kate shows off some cool mail, and we finally get around to talking about Hellfest, fully revealing that we are not entirely up on the new hotness and are unable to beat the unc allegations.
