Growing in the Word

Today on the program, pastor Jim will takes us once again to Galatians chapter one, as Paul shares his own personal testimony of how Jesus Christ saved him . The people of Galatia needed to hear this because they had straying in their doctrine. They had been deceived into believing that some more than faith in Jesus was required for salvation.  

Today on Growing in the Word, pastor Jim Jarrett will help us get a grip on the reality of eternity - and what is required for us to spend eternity with God in a place called heaven. In our study of the book of Galatians we are in a section that is biographical in nature. We are considering the first seventeen years of Paul's ministry.  

  The Galatians were Paul's spiritual children, and they had strayed from the gospel message Paul had taught them - salvation through faith in Christ alone. You can imagine that he was not happy, so he wrote them a letter - and that's what we are studying here on Growing in the Word. As we continue in Galatians one today, we are going to continue to see Paul's angry reaction to his beloved friends in Galatia turning to a false gospel. Paul had taught them a gospel based on the grace of God, but they had turned to a gospel of works. Paul was thoroughly ticked! As Jim has mentioned before, this is the only letter Paul wrote that contains absolutely no encouragement.

The churches in Galatia had strayed away from the truths Paul had taught them when the church was formed. Salvation through faith was the corner stone, and the Galatians had listened to the wrong teachers after Paul had left, and now they believed they had to work for their salvation. That's the same false doctrine that many people are falling for today - even in the strongest Christian churches.

There have been some pretty massive one on one battles over the centuries. David versus Goliath comes to mind. You might also even add Ali versus Frazier from the 1970's. But today on Growing in the Word, we'll hear about a battle that was just as contentious, and surely more important that any boxing match.  

Are we saved by faith, or are there things we can do to   work our way to heaven? That was the basic problem going on in Galatia - they had been fooled into thinking that works would be enough. Let's join pastor Jim for the conclusion of his first message in what promises to be an awesome time in the book of Galatians.

As we continue studying one of the most exciting books in the New Testament, we'll look once again at the fourth chapter of Colossians. Paul was known   as a man who liked to challenge the Christians around him to strive to be better - and in turn to change the world for better. In Colossians four, verses seven through eighteen we see a great example of a good challenge for all of us.  

Have you ever had that feeling that someone was watching you? Well, if you're a Christian, that feeling is legitimate, because the world is watching. We have an awesome responsibility as believers to live a pure and holy life - so the world will see the difference Christ has made in our lives.

It's amazing how so many useful insights can come from a small letter like Colossians, but we've learned many, many things during our study, and there are many more insight in store for today, especially in the area of the workplace. Again, we'll be in Colossians chapter three and the beginning of chapter four today.

There's nothing like having a really close friend, wouldn't you agree? Someone who is a confidant, and encourager, always there when you need them. As Paul ended his letter to the Colossians, he told them of his friends - who were going out to spread the gospel, as Paul sat in a jail cell.

Today on Growing in the Word we'll continue our study in Colossians.... a letter Paul wrote that we should keep in our hearts and minds and reread often!   Today were looking at the last few verses of chapter three, and we'll get into the relationship between employers and employees. As in every other area of life, there are right and wrong ways for both bosses and workers to act.

The book of Colossians is one of the most read and most loved books in the bible because it paints a perfect picture of Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior. Paul's words in this letter are inspiring, and challenging. Today's message will be a challenge for parents - especially fathers - to have proper relationship with their children. Today we continue in Colossians chapter three, a chapter with a lot of practical truths for family relations. The so-called "nuclear" family is becoming a rarity. A husband, a wife, and their children all living in the same home used to be the norm but in the year 2026, it's definitely not so anymore. Today we'll return to our study in Colossians chapter three, and we'll concentrate on the relationship between parents and kids. Every parent wants respect from their children - and deservedly so - but it's also a two way street. As parents we have a duty to treat our kids with respect - knowing that they are created in God's image just as we are!

If you're a parent, I'm sure you could use some encouraging words about raising Godly kids. It's a tough job, isn't it? But God has a specific plan for us parents - and He's always there for us in those times when we become frustrated. The world is our enemy when it comes to raising godly kids, there is no question about it.

We're currently studying Colossians three, and for the last couple of broadcasts, Jim has been discussing Husbands and Wives. Today we're going to move along to the other members of the family - the kids. Children are a real blessing - and a real challenge. But God knows what's best when it comes to raising Godly children.

Today on Growing in the Word we return to Colossians three, verses eighteen through twenty-one, and some important precepts about the husband's role in a Godly marriage. Guys - are you ready to be challenged to be the best husband you can be?

Today on Growing in the Word we begin a few days of concentrating on Husbands and Wives, as a part of our study in Colossians, and of course, Colossians is a part of the greatest instruction manual of all time - the Bible!   In the Word we have everything we need to know to have a successful and thriving marriage and family.

We come back to pastor Jim Jarrett's look at Husbands and Wives today, as we consider Colossians three, verses eighteen trough twenty-one.   Wives submitting to their husbands has been a controversial subject for as long as people have been reading these verses. The only reason there's any controversy is that people have consistently misinterpreted what Paul's meaning is.

Last time on the program, pastor Jim Jarrett   showed us what we're to put on in order to have a successful life that is pleasing to God.   Now today, we revisit Colossians three and verses eighteen through twenty-one, and Jim will begin a detailed look at our personal relationships within the family.

Colossians is really an incredible letter when you consider it's message and it's circumstances. Paul wrote this letter from a prison cell. His desire was to lead his beloved friends in Colossi back to Jesus Christ. What a great testimony! Our study today is based on Colossians chapter three, verses fifteen through seventeen.
