  Today on Growing in the Word, we're going to once again see the folly of such an attitude. Colossians chapter one points us toward our inheritance in heaven...an inheritance that no amount of money can buy! If you had to choose between riches on earth and riches in heaven, what would be your "final answer"?

When you think about the great men of the Bible, one name that is near the top of everyone's list is the Apostle Paul. One of his greatest qualities was his selflessness. Today as we continue studying Colossians chapter one, we see this trait quite clearly. Paul is in jail in Rome, and yet his concern is for his brothers in the Colossian church. They've been deceived and taken in by some false doc...

Today on Growing in the Word as we continue our new series in Colossians, we'll see that this is the very situation Paul finds himself in. His brothers in the Colossians church had allowed some false teaching to creep into their doctrine. As he always does, Paul comes up with some wonderful advice for the Colossians, and our teacher, Jim Jarrett, will take us through them today.

  As Jim has mentioned, this letter to the little church in Colossi was written by Paul, while he was imprisoned. Was he angry at being in jail? No. Was he throwing a pity party? No. He was concerned enough for the Colossians that he sent this powerful letter to them to remind them of the supremacy of Jesus and the need to discern false doctrine from true.

Pastor Jim has just begin a new series going through Colossians, one of the letters the Apostle Paul wrote from a jail cell. He didn't spend any time feeling sorry for himself in this four chapter letter. As a matter of fact if you didn't know he was in prison, you would never guess that is where he wrote Colossians. Paul's message here is simple - Christ is supreme over everything in the universe...

If you're looking for practical ways to live the Christian life, then Paul's epistle to the Colossians is a good place to go. We'll start with the first three verses of chapter one. As we all know, a relationship with Jesus begins with a changed heart and a reborn life. There is no better example of what the Holy Spirit can do in a life than the Apostle Paul.  

Today on Growing in the Word, pastor Jim Jarrett brings to a close his series in Genesis. We look back all those thousands of years to the time right after the flood, and we see that not much has changed. Technologically we're very advanced, but sin-wise, we're still stuck in the mud from the flood!  

Pastor Jim begins our final look at the first part of the book of Genesis today, in chapter eleven. It's here we see a familiar scene – the building of the tower of Babel. The world was a very different place back then, of course, but in some ways, things haven't changed much. You'll see what I mean as pastor Jim takes us through today's study.

We've been studying the book of Genesis and it wasn't long after the flood that men stopped making themselves available to God and began to pursue their own agenda. What a shame to use what God so graciously gives for our own selfish purposes.

The Bible gives us plenty of examples of good and godly men and women who stumbled into sin. Whether it was King David, the apostle Peter, or as we'll see today, Noah.  If we're wise, we'll learn from their mistakes and not repeat them.   Right after a great victory, and spiritual blessing, Noah fell into sin.  And that can so easily happen to us!

It wasn't too long ago that we received a stellar report about the lifestyle of Noah.  He was described as a righteous man who walked with God, but even Noah made his fair share of mistakes.  Noah is about to stumble into sin, and to make matters worse- his son repeats the matter in an ungodly fashion.  Here's Jim to remind us that we should never expect to be sinless – but we should always strive...

God has just judged the world through a flood, and after a little over a year in the Ark, it's time for Noah and his family to step onto dry land. And on the heels of judgment comes good news - that God is going to bless Noah and his family.  We'll hear what He has to say momentarily.

For quite a few weeks now we've been studying the early chapters of Genesis.  In chapter eight, we get a glimpse at life after the flood.  Noah, his family and the animals are about to step onto dry land after being in the Ark for just about a year.  Pastor Jim Jarrett says it was a totally different world and environment they stepped into.

Today pastor Jim Jarrett resumes his study of Genesis.  We'll be studying chapter eight during today's program.  Noah, his family, and the animals have been cooped up in the ark for just over a year. The rain has stopped, the waters are receding, and it's time to step out on dry land.  That's where we'll pick the story up today.

Pastor Jim Jarrett is taking us through the book of Genesis where the flood takes a major role in shaping how the earth currently looks. The water came forth from below as well as from above and everything was destroyed. It's important to note that rain was a new phenomenon - it had never happened before!  

  Today we take you to Genesis seven, where the Lord is about to send a worldwide flood to judge the earth.  But before He does He makes sure His faithful servant Noah, and his family are safe.  We'll hear God's final words of instruction to Noah in just a second.  And pastor Jim reminds us God has made a way of escape from the coming judgment for us too, and that's in His Son Jesus Christ.

Pastor Jim Jarrett is offering a detailed study of the early part of Genesis, and in chapter six we read of the familiar story of the flood.  Evil was continuous and extreme, so God stepped in and brought worldwide judgment.  Obviously we're living in a day much like what we read about in Genesis six, but is there any hope for us? 

  As we open our Bibles to Genesis six, the world is a mess at this particular time... and God is about to release His judgment through a worldwide flood.   How did it get to this point, and could judgment be coming soon to the earth again?  Let's open the God's Word for answers and go now to pastor Jim Jarrett for today's study.

  Pastor Jim Jarrett is currently teaching from the book of Genesis and we'll camp out in chapter five once again today.  If you'll recall, this is where we find the first genealogy in the Bible.  And while we might be tempted to gloss over this section of Scripture, pastor Jim believes it to be highly relevant. You'll see why as you study along!

As we look at this biblical family tree, we are reminded that God was in control of humanity from the very beginning! You'll find today's scripture in Genesis five. 

We've come to Genesis chapter four and the descendants of Cain. There are remarkable similarities to our day today providing great insight to our dilemma. We'll start with Genesis four, verse twenty-one.
