Growing in the Word

Evidence of the goodness of God is found in how gracious and patient He is towards those who reject Him.  It's surprising to see His response. Case in point - Cain!   Pastor Jim Jarrett is teaching from the book of Genesis.  We've come to the story and family of Cain.  So let's jump right in.

On today's broadcast, we'll gain a whole new appreciation for the gracious warnings of Scripture from our loving God.  To help assure sin doesn't have its way with us as it did Cain, let's join pastor Jim Jarrett in Genesis chapter four picking up in verse seven.

Cain had several "firsts" in his life.  He was the first baby, and yet became the first murderer.  It's shocking to think that a baby could one day become a murderer.  But tragically, it's a terrible reality that repeated for far too many families.  You might be wondering how this happens. Is there anything that can be done about it?

One of the consequences of sin is the curse.  And you may recall one area that was cursed is the ground. So man's work  will now be by the sweat of his brow.  Let's talk about that for a bit. From Genesis chapter three, picking up in verse eighteen.

  When God tells us to do something, or to avoid a certain behavior, we should listen and obey, wouldn't you agree?  When we fail to do that, there are severe consequences, and the story of Adam and Eve reminds us of that.  We're about to see the reason for the curse, as we look at Genesis chapter three.

We tell our kids from an early age that bad decisions in life have consequences.  Some of us have learned that lesson the hard way.  And of course we want them to avoid the mistakes that we've made.  Adam and Even certainly made their fair share of poor choices, and the result was judgment and The Curse.  But they weren't left without hope, because the Messiah would come to forgive them and us of...

For the last few weeks we've been in Genesis, and we're spending a considerable amount of time in chapter three, which of course is where the fall of man and the curse are described for us.  We don't want you to miss God's message of grace, even in the midst of the Curse. Though there would be judgment for Adam and Eve, there's also the hope of salvation and forgiveness to cling to.

  Right now pastor Jim Jarrett is in a detailed study of the early portion of Genesis.  And as we head back to chapter three Jim is going to point out the curse and judgment that came as a result of Adam and Eve's sin. It's amazing to consider how this act of disobedience has had such a profound impact on human history. The good news is, though paradise was lost, it can be regained by God's grace.

Today on Growing in the Word, pastor Jim Jarrett is going to look at what Adam and Eve told God when they were caught with their hands in the cookie jar so to speak.  We're in Genesis three.

Today on Growing in the Word we go all the way back to the Garden, and notice how satan works.  How he dealt with Adam and Eve, is how he deals with us.  It'll serve to help us overcome temptation, and live to honor God.

Jarrett is leading a study of Genesis right now, and today we find ourselves in chapter three. Following tragedies, questions tend to surface like, "Why does evil exist?" and "How could God allow something like this?"  Well, the problems of this world can be traced back to Genesis three, where sin entered the world.

Today on Growing in the Word we're going to uncover satan's devices.  I think you'll find it helpful as you battle temptation in your own life.  Pastor Jim Jarrett will be focusing on the third chapter of Genesis where of course we find the fall of man in the Garden.

The devil, with his cunning and craftiness uses subtlety to tempt us.  So we must be on our guard.  And because the temptations are so subtle - we all too often fail to pick up on them - till it's too late.  So we need to be regularly reminded of satan's ploys.  Today's edition of Growing In The Word will do just that.  

The ages-old dilemma of having both a good God and yet evil in the world won't be settled with a couple of sound bites. But there is a satisfying answer and it's found only in the Lord and the things He has revealed in His word.  And we'll glean some of those answers on today's broadcast! 

 It's understood that you can tell a lot about where you are presently and where you're heading by looking back to where you've been.  Or to express the same idea in a different way... What God intended for marriage is far more than what is typically experienced in marriage today.  Even in the Christian marriage.  That's not intended to discourage you – but to only whet your appetite for more! And today on Growing In The Word – pastor Jim Jarrett will explore the possibilities.

Today we come to Genesis chapter two as we make our way through the bible. For Adam to see his need for a suitable helper – God first calls him to name the animals.  Let's head over to Genesis two and verse twenty.

God takes good care of His children. We'll see an example of this today - as we look at His first Children.  But This is Growing In The Word  and our teacher as always is pastor Jim Jarrett. The plan is to cover Genesis chapter two - verses eighteen through twenty-five.

We've been in the book of Genesis lately. And as we continue our journey through Genesis we'll be reminded that God is not only the creator of all things - but also our redeemer.  And looking at what was originally intended - will give great insight - to what's in store for us who believe.   Let's open our Bibles to Genesis chapter two - at verse thirteen.

God knows what we need and in His great care for us – He provides it.  Though life isn't like the Garden of Eden, one day it will be, because of what Jesus did on the cross.  And as we look forward to the New Creation we can glean insight on the greatness and glory of our God - from the first creation.  And we'll have an opportunity to do just that - today on Growing In The Word.  

Does it makes sense that God is creator?  Are we following blindly, or is there evidence to support Genesis one and two?  We'll look at both sides logically and scientifically and see which one comes out on top.  If you've ever taken human anatomy in school, you have a pretty good idea of how complex our bodies are.  Pastor Jim says that's compelling proof that God did it!
