The Home Video Hustle

To put it the way Anita did, "We actually get to watch a real movie this week!" I admittedly wasn't as excited about this because I had seen this movie before...20 years ago. There is a story behind that and i get into it on the show but this really felt like a blast from the past. We had all pretty much seen it before, Chris only in pieces though. The conversation also gave me the chance to nerd...

The Patreon Picks strike hard this week. It took me years to find this damn movie! Not only did I find it, I found the "directors cut!" Dedication folks! Luckily, I had a full house to help me figure out just what the hell happened in this film as Chris, Anita and The Homie Mike Bagford are here with me! The movie gave us a lot to chew on as we discuss how Christopher Walken looks like a Shrek cha...

It's time to wrap up the Black History Month Marathon for 2024 and we also are getting back to the Patreon Picks! Our supporter Jason sent us an Ice-T movie that I haven't seen in almost 15 years. Chris joins me today and in true HVH fashion, we got into the movie and a bunch of other discussions. I give my thoughts on the new Kendrick Lamar "diss" verse, reminisce about the old Stranglehold video...

The Black History Month Marathon is winding down and after having a lor of fun with Shaq in a superhero movie next week, I had to bring it back down to life, back to reality and see what's up with the second film from The Hughes Brothers. Chris and Anita have never seen this one and I haven't watched it in many years. Anita also has a PSA to share with everyone, I learn about "trauma bonding" and...

If you have been a long time listener of HVH, there has been a running joke between us and Everything I Learned from Movies Podcast. Six years later, we are finally going to end the joke and review Steel! Steve and Izzy are here with us of course but we also had a surprise visit from PJ! We also talked about "finger blasting," turkey hot dogs, other bad comic movies from 1997, Anita shows Steve so...

Anita has her pick this week and this is a classic that I have never sat and watched. I always heard that I would love it. Yeah, it's a love story but it's all about hip hop though. I love the soundtrack, got it back in the day, time to see if the film matches it! I got to be all in my zone with the movie this week, I drop hip hop knowledge on Chris and Anita, Chris shares the song that made him f...

This is a big one folks, I didn't realize how much so until I put the post up on Wednesday and let everyone know this was the next episode. I had never watched this before because the people I grew up around said it was wack! I know bits about it because of pop culture osmosis but today, thanks to Chris, i'm finally gonna find out why someone is kissin' Converses. Anita also goes hard on some rude...

Let's wrap up month one of the Black History Month Marathon with a movie that I have never seen! Anita really wanted this and Chris didn't want this at all! Since Anita hated Beat Street, I figured this would be more up her alley and I was right because the whole time she was hype and she even remembered seeing this in the theater. TWICE! We also let Chris know that he's accidently created a catch...

The moment I saw that trailer, I knew I had to check this out. This looked like it could be worse than Morbius and that excited me! Why? I love trash that's why and apparently Anita does too because she was right here with me to go see it. The big question that had to be answered though, is this "good" bad or was it just bad, bad? We'll tell you all about it! If you have seen it, let us know if yo...

This week we get to cover an often-overlooked Spike Lee joint! Following up Do The Right Thing was going to be a monstrous task for any filmmaker but could Spike pull it off? As seems to be the norm around here, Chris and Anita are watching this for the first time and surprisingly, we all had very strong and very similar opinions about one thing in this film. Not too many tangents this week, Mo' B...

It's been so long that i've wanted to get Beat Street on the show! Even more fun is that Anita and Chris have never seen it before. Very curious to see if it does anything for people who weren't there in the 80s and aren't big fans of old school hip hop like me. You know I got my nerd on and dropped knowledge as much as possible, you know I played some music and I may have just made Anita a Kool M...

It's Black History Month and the marathon starts now am I don't know why it took us this long to do Shaft but i'm fixing that now. Even better is that Anita and Chris have never seen this before! I definitely get my nerd on with some movie and music trivia this week, we talk about those dudes in the mall that really want to clean your shoes, we are all in agreement about shower sex being overrated...

This is it! We reached the end of the Harry Potter series and I was told that this would be my favorite in the series. We also got some notes from a die hard Potter fan listener and i found out that Chris and Anita had been lying to me about some things! Anita gives her quick thoughts on Scarface and the 1995 Mortal Kombat film, Chris tries his hand at a tongue twister and unfortunately as we reco...

I'm another year older and to celebrate, I went back home to Ohio to visit family and friends and of course, got them on the microphone. It's a stacked line up this week, PJ is here, Anita is here, Chris is here, Cameron is here, Tiffany is here and for the first time ever, my dad is here! We had all been drinking, a lot and because of the subject matter of the film and all of us being Black, we g...

We're finally getting to the end of the Harry Potter series but still not quite there yet since they decided to make this a two parter. After all these movies, all these mulligans i've given it, this one finally had me start asking questions about how stupid the Wizarding World may be. On top of that Anita and I have a debate on just how grimey Harry Potter can be. Was it innocent or was Harry out...

Happy New Year! The Hustle continues as we head back to Hogwarts after major listener demand! Since Goblet of Fire i've been warming up on this series, the last one was a slight drop but can this some pick the pace back up? Also in this episode, Chris shows love to Domino's, Anita shocks me by revealing that she's seen Paranormal activity and for the first time in a long while, we all agree on the...

To wrap up 2023 and end The Christmas Hustle, I watched my first Madea movie AND got incredibly drunk while doing it! Anita thought that this movie would make for a fun discussion, and she was right! We talk about all the weird stuff in this film, Chris lets his country accent slip really hard, Anita is making sound effects in the background, Brent is telling stories and referencing surprising sho...

It was my turn to pick a movie and I had to set us into Christmas the right way! There is no way you can tell me that this one isn't a Christmas movie. Anita had never seen this one before and it's been a long time since I saw it last. I finally got to experience just how many sexual innuendos are in this film, we debate about Batman killing people, Chris gives his opinion on The Killing Joke movi...

As a Christmas present to the Patrons, I let them come together and pick a movie for us to watch. We almost had to watch The Christmas Light thanks to So Wizard Podcast but with 50% of the total vote, we got to watch Scrooged and i got to rewatch a childhood favorite. Chris and Anita had never seen this joint before. Anita also got some wild responses to her opinions on Jamie Lee Curtis, I tell st...

Oh we gettin' jolly now! Chris got to pick a movie for us this time and I guess he wanted to be funny with this one but the joke may have been on him. Joke was on Anita too because she purposely got me tipsy off of spiked hot chocolate to get the old school HVH experience and oh yeah, she got it and I had so much fun this episode. We all had various hot takes to give this week, but you'll have to...

HO! HO! HO! Oh yeah, the Christmas Hustle has begun and since i'm such a nice guy, i'm letting Anita, Chris and the Patrons pick a movie for us to watch and This Christmas was chosen by Anita. I had never seen this one before, Chris didn't have fond memories of it but with this cast, it can't be bad right? We also give out a lot of PSA's this week, Chris vents his Black Friday work anger, Anita an...

The Halloween Hustle for 2023 is at it's end today and thanks to our 49th Patreon pick, Chris is now introduced to the world of Italian Horror films! Mike Streeter really wanted us to check this out and this is now the second time Lucio Fulci has been featured on the show. We get right at it this week because we both had to bring our heads together to try and figure out what the fu-k even happened...

It's been a while since we last went to Crystal Lake but Trade Voorhees has returned to talk about Part four of the Friday the 13th saga! This is usally regarded as one of the best in the series but one of us highly disagrees, can you guess which one? We also discuss Adam Sandler films, our love for Little Caesars pizza, Corey Feldman, Lucio Fulci movies, all the plot holes in these Friday the 13t...

We actually watched a newer movie?!? WHAT? Crazy right but honestly, I had been wanting to see this one for a while and I actually heard good things so let's see if doing something modern makes those download numbers go up baby! Chris and I had way different opinions on M3GAN and one of us may have to run from some pitchforks. I also lament Anita not digging MST3K, we discuss Halloween costumes, I...

The Halloween Hustle continues into November and to start, we went back to The Last Drive In and I had to pick this movie in particular because I want the "Chris Squeal" to be part of official HVH canon. The movie doesn't have a lot going on so convos also ended up being had about Ray J, ketchup on hot dogs, I try to figure out if anyone remembers Treet, Chris tries to remember some HVH trivia and...
