Just Another Animal

Science EN ↓ 7 avsnitt

Are you able to move? Do you have to eat food? Can you sexually reproduce? Is your body made up of multiple cells with a nucleus? Do you have a nervous system? If this sounds like you, congratulations! You're just another animal. Our species history starts at least 300 Kya, most likely in the Congolian forest-savannas. We're a monkey from Africa that can climb trees for fruit and partake in social grooming, but something's a bit... off. Unlike other primates, we can only walk on two legs, and most of our hair is thin with little melanin. Lean in and listen to learn about our place in nature.

Natural Parenting 04.06.2026

For humans in WEIRD societies, it’s called attachment parenting. For other mammals, it’s just regular ol’ parenting. It’s time to get back to what’s natural, and parent your baby like the monkey you are. Plus, stay ‘til the end and get my website and book recommendations for more on the subject. Meet the New Humans That Are 99 % Similar 22.03.2026

Should us and chimps be in the same genus? I’d say, “duh!” In this episode, I discuss what differentiates primates from other animals. Then, I talk about divergence times among the apes, as well as percent similarity between us and other hominoids. The picture is of two young chimpanzees havin’ a good ol’ time. We All Do It… And Boobs 23.02.2026

It’s the purpose we’re all here on Earth to do. I talk about what it is and how to do it. Ever wondered why female humans’ mammary glands “stay swole” starting at puberty? Also, learn what separates the two sexes beginning at birth, and once we begin to sexually mature. The picture is of two geladas from Ethiopia in the dorso-ventral position. Are you a baby-talking naked ape? 07.02.2026

We are monkeys. We aren’t naked apes. Humans ain’t so special. And please, stop talking to other animals like you do to your toddler! Find out several lil tidbits that’ve been rollin’ around in my mind. The picture is of a female mountain gorilla with her baby in Rwanda. Photo taken by Charles J. Sharp.

Mammals and Mammaries 01.02.2026

Learn about what a mammal is, and how humans fit into that group of animals. You’ll also hear about hair and mammary glands, which includes my strong thoughts on these topics. The picture is of a person from one of the Bayaka foraging groups in the Congolian rainforest. Photo taken by JMGRACIA100.

Intro to Humans as Animals 17.01.2026

You are a living organism. But what does that even mean?! Join me on this journey to find out how we belong in the natural world. The picture is of elephants in the Congolian forest-savanna of Gabon. Photo taken by Ngangorica.
