I Know a Guy Podcast
Every man knows a guy. The one who looks fine on the outside but is falling apart inside. Angry. Numb. Distant. I know that guy too - because that guy was me. Every man needs a guy who gets it. You’re not the only one holding it together by a thread. I’m Steve Cummings, and this is I Know a Guy - conversations for men who are done pretending. It’s not content for content’s sake. It’s the entry point for men who would never fill out a form for mentoring or walk into a small group cold. It’s an open door to honesty - the voice before the visit.

Ep. 94 - “It Didn’t Affect Me.” — The Danger of Denial 09.04.2026 4:09
Most men don’t think they have trauma. They think they have stress. They think they have personality quirks. They think they’re just wired that way. But what if some of your strongest reactions aren’t personality — they’re protection? Today on I Know a Guy we talk about denial — the quiet survival response that keeps men functional but not free. And if something in you knows there’s more under the...
Ep. 93 - Wealth as Identity 08.04.2026 5:32
There’s a story in the Gospels about a wealthy, disciplined, morally upright young man who asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. He kept the commandments. He had influence. He had success. And yet he walked away sad. In this episode of I Know a Guy, we unpack why wealth can quietly become our identity — and how financial success can train us to live independent of God. This is a conv...
Ep. 92 - The American Dream vs. The Father's Dream 07.04.2026 4:31
Is wealth the goal… or is freedom the goal? In Episode 2 of this series on I Know a Guy on "Money, Identity & the Quiet Idol," we confront the subtle theology of the American Dream — max the 401K, retire comfortably, and finally relax. But what if you’re chasing financial peace instead of relational peace with your Father? We unpack Jesus’ story of the rich fool, Paul’s secret of contentment,...
Ep. 91 - When Provision Becomes Performance 06.04.2026 6:17
Why do some men work incredibly hard and see financial fruit… while others grind and nothing seems to move? Is financial blessing proof that God is pleased? Is financial struggle proof that He isn’t? In this episode of "I Know a Guy," we expose the subtle lie that money equals identity — whether it’s dressed up as prosperity gospel or the American Dream. You’ll learn the difference between working...
Ep. 90 - Daniel Series Part 3: Faithful Over Time 03.04.2026 5:46
Daniel didn’t end up in the lions’ den because he failed. He ended up there because he stayed consistent. On this episode of I Know a Guy we see how Daniel 6 tells us he prayed “as he had done before.” No panic. No scrambling. Just steady faithfulness. The greatest threat to men isn’t persecution — it’s drift. Drift into compromise. Drift into performance. Drift into reacting instead of remaining...
Ep. 89 - Daniel Series Part 2: Identity in the Fire 02.04.2026 3:41
There is a moment in a man's life that we all eventually face — when obedience costs something. Today on I Know a Guy we see what happened to Daniel when he faced this moment. The music plays. Everyone bows. Three men remain standing. And what they say changes everything: “Our God is able to deliver us… but even if He does not…” That’s identity. Not obedience based on outcomes. Not faith built on...
Ep. 88 - Daniel Series Part 1: Resolved Before the Test 01.04.2026 5:24
Before Daniel ever faced a furnace or a lions’ den, he faced something much quieter — a decision. Today on I Know a Guy we start a 3-part series on Daniel. Daniel 1 isn’t about food. It’s about formation. When everything familiar was stripped away — his home, his culture, even his name — Daniel resolved who he was before the pressure increased. Most men don’t lose their identity in dramatic momen...
Ep. 87 - You Don’t Have to Be Right to Love Well 31.03.2026 5:38
What do you do when you strongly disagree with someone—but still want to love them well? Most men think they have two options: stay quiet or prove their point. But what if both miss the mark? In today’s episode of I Know a Guy, we talk about how real strength isn’t found in winning arguments—it’s found in knowing who you are. When your identity is secure, you don’t need to be right. You’re free to...
Ep. 86 - Be Still: When It Finally Stops Depending on You 30.03.2026 6:13
What happens when everything goes quiet? No phone. No talking. No distractions. I just spent 48 hours in silence at a monastery… and what surfaced surprised me. I realized I was still carrying something I thought I had surrendered— the belief that it all depends on me. My success. My provision. Even the fruit of this ministry. And it was stealing my peace. In this episode of I Know a Guy, I’m sh...
Ep. 85 - Why Do We Wait for Life to Crash? 27.03.2026 5:35
Why do we wait until life explodes before we change? Why do we tolerate slow drift in our marriage, our health, our faith — until something crashes hard enough to wake us up? In Luke 15, the prodigal son didn’t “come to his senses” until he was starving in a pigpen. But what if he didn’t have to wait for famine? What if we don’t either? This episode of I Know a Guy is an honest conversation about...
Ep. 84 - "Honor Thy Father & Mother" Part 2: When Honor Is Weaponized 26.03.2026 4:34
When “honor your father and mother” becomes emotional leverage, what do you do? In this episode we talk about: • Honor vs. control • Boundaries in honor-shame cultures • Jesus’ reordering of family loyalty • And how to become a man without becoming rebellious If you’ve ever felt like obedience to God might cost you family approval—this episode will steady your heart. If today's episode resonates w...
Ep. 83 - "Honor Thy Father & Mother" Part 1: What Honor Actually Means 25.03.2026 4:06
“Honor your father and mother.” For some men, that verse feels holy. For others, it feels heavy. What if the Hebrew word for honor doesn’t mean lifelong obedience—but giving proper weight? In this episode, we unpack: • The Hebrew meaning of kā·vêd • Why honor is about posture, not control • How this commandment has been misused • And how to honor without losing your identity If you’ve ever felt tr...
Ep. 82 - Unwavering Part 2: Not Relocated by Pressure 24.03.2026 7:02
Pressure isn’t just about circumstances — it’s about identity. In this episode of I Know a Guy, we talk about the quiet drift that moves men from sonship into striving… and how to become immovable again. If you’ve been exhausted from trying to hold your place, this conversation will steady you. And if you’d like help becoming anchored and unwavering in your identity, I offer 1:1 identity coaching...
Ep. 81 - Unwavering Part 1: Seated, Not Shaken 23.03.2026 4:24
Most men think unwavering means trying harder. It doesn’t. It means being seated. In this episode of I Know a Guy, we unpack what “steadfast” and “immovable” really mean — and why pressure isn’t trying to break you… it’s trying to relocate you. If you’ve been feeling shaken in your identity, this conversation is for you. And if you’d like help learning how to live seated — not striving — I offer 1...
Ep. 80 - Safely to Shore 20.03.2026 4:59
Paul didn’t lose his identity when the storm hit—he lived from it. In Acts 27, chained and exhausted, Paul becomes the calmest man on the ship. Not because the storm stopped—but because he knew who he belonged to. The ship went down. The promise didn’t. This episode of I Know a Guy explores what it looks like to live from your identity as a beloved son when everything feels like it’s breaking apar...
Ep. 79 - Heart - Healing - Holiness 19.03.2026 4:55
Many men believe holiness is something they must achieve to earn God’s approval. But that belief quietly fuels striving, exhaustion, and shame. In this episode of I Know a Guy, we flip the script. Holiness doesn’t come from trying harder—it flows from being loved. When identity is rooted in beloved sonship, healing begins… and holiness grows naturally. If you’ve been living from performance instea...
Ep. 78 - The Father's Heart 18.03.2026 5:42
What if your identity didn’t start with performance… but with belonging? Before you ever took your first breath, you were already in the Father’s heart. Not accidental. Not tolerated. Not on probation. Wanted. Chosen. Loved. In today’s I Know a Guy episode, we talk about the Father’s heart Why adoption is not second-best. Why God’s pleasure isn’t earned, and How a secure attachment to a loving Fat...
Ep. 77 - Provision Already Exists 17.03.2026 5:25
What if the pressure you’re carrying isn’t actually yours to hold? So many men are exhausted—not because they’re incapable—but because they’ve quietly believed they are the source. The provider. The fixer. The answer. But Scripture tells us something radically freeing: before the pressure… the provision already existed. In this episode of I Know a Guy we dismantle the lie that it all depends on yo...
Ep. 76 - The Father You Never Had 16.03.2026 6:38
The way you see God is often shaped by the father you had—or didn’t have. In this episode of I Know a Guy, we explore how father wounds quietly shape faith, identity, and trust… and why healing begins when we separate God from our past. What if He’s not who you assumed? What if He’s the Father you never had? If today's episode resonates with you and you want help learning how to live from your ide...
Ep. 75 - Belonging Comes Before Believing 13.03.2026 6:10
Christianity is often misunderstood as behavior management—but what if it’s actually about restored belonging? This episode of I Know a Guy reframes faith through the lens of adoption, identity, and security, inviting men to consider that belief may follow belonging—not the other way around. This one is for you skeptics, seekers, and men who grew up around church but never felt at home. If today's...
Ep. 74 - BE.LOVED. 12.03.2026 5:40
Most men don’t struggle with belief—they struggle with belonging. In this episode of I Know a Guy, we explore why the deepest ache in a man’s heart isn’t about performance or certainty, but about being loved by a Father who stays. Before belief. Before behavior. There is an invitation: Be. Loved. This episode is for the man who’s curious, cautious, or quietly tired of carrying it alone. If you’re...
Ep. 73 - Awareness Series Part 5: Awareness, Sonship and Living a Present Life 11.03.2026 4:37
Sonship isn’t something you think your way into. It’s something you experience. Scripture says the Spirit testifies with our spirit—not our theology. In this episode of I Know a Guy, we explore why awareness reconnects us to the place where God’s love is received, how presence replaces performance, and how small daily practices help men live as sons instead of strivers. If you’re tired of performi...
Ep. 72 - Awareness Series Part 4: Escape or Presence? 10.03.2026 7:06
When emotions go unrecognized, men don’t slow down—they look for relief. Sometimes that relief looks obvious. Sometimes it looks productive, successful, or even spiritual. But escape is escape. In this episode of I Know a Guy, we explore the moment in Genesis where hiding begins, why men cope instead of feel, and how awareness—not willpower—is what actually leads to freedom. If you’re noticing pat...
Ep. 71 - Awareness Series Part 3: Jesus and Emotional Awareness 09.03.2026 7:42
Jesus didn’t deny His emotions—and He didn’t let them control Him. He stayed present, honest, and deeply connected to the Father. In this episode of I Know a Guy, we explore moments where Jesus names His sorrow, allows Himself to grieve, and refuses to bypass His inner world in the name of faith. What we discover is this: awareness doesn’t weaken a man—it anchors him. If you’re realizing you’ve sp...
Ep. 70 - Awareness Series Part 2: David - A Man Who Knew His Heart 06.03.2026 5:10
David failed. He sinned. He made costly mistakes. Yet God trusted him with something rare—His own heart. Why? Because David was aware of his inner world. He talked to his soul. He asked questions instead of numbing pain. He invited God into what was actually happening inside him. In Episode 2 of our Awareness series on I Know a Guy, we explore why emotional honesty—not perfection—is what marked D...
