Hall of fame Hier im großen Salon, rechts vom Kamin, lernen wir den Firmengründer Christoffel Plantin kennen und zur Rechten sehen wir seine Frau Jeanne Rivière. Auf der linken Seite des Kamins befinden sich Porträts ihrer nächsten Nachfahren: Schwiegersohn Jan I. Moretus und dessen Frau Martina Plantin. Und am Eingang hängt das Porträt ihres Sohnes: Der unverheiratete Balthasar I. Moretus.

Hall of fame Here in the Large Drawing-room, to the right of the fireplace, we can see the founder Christoffel Plantijn and his wife Jeanne Rivière. To the left of the fireplace hang portraits of their first descendants: their son-in-law Jan I Moretus and his wife Martina Plantijn. By the entrance we see the portrait of the third generation, Jan and Martina’s unmarried son Balthasar I Moretus.

Licht, luchtig en comfortabel In het midden van de 18de eeuw laat François-Jean Moretus een nieuw voorgebouw aan de Vrijdagmarkt optrekken. Het familieleven verplaatst zich naar dit deel van het huis en dus ook naar deze eetkamer.

Biblia regia, 1568-1572 Met de financiële steun van Filips II realiseert Plantijn zijn absolute meesterwerk: de meertalige Biblia polyglotta of Biblia regia. Het werk bestaat uit acht delen: vier delen met het Oude Testament, een met het Nieuwe Testament en drie delen ‘Apparatus’. De hele onderneming neemt vier jaar in beslag, van 1568 tot 1572. Ze bezorgt Plantijn internationale faam.

De 36-regelige bijbel, ca. 1460 De 36-regelige bijbel is een monument in de drukgeschiedenis en een van onze grootste museumschatten. Vroeger dacht men dat Joannes Gutenberg hem zelf had gedrukt. Niemand weet hoe de bijbel in de bibliotheek van Plantijn is beland. Het werk is bijzonder fijn afgewerkt met mooie, getekende initialen.

Biblia sacra Deze bijbel is rijkelijk geïllustreerd met 94 gravures. Plantijn gebruikte ze ook al voor de illustratie van andere boeken. Door koperplaten te hergebruiken kan Plantijn dure uitgaven goedkoper produceren, maar met grote winst.
