Tutor Reviews

First of all, BIG shout out to all the Indie filmmakers and creators for delivering the best fan films in recent years... I admire that. So after seing Never Hike Alone, this was a must. Enjoy, people.

Danielle Harris, Scout Taylor-Compton, Dee Wallace, Kane Hodder... I'm sold already. I love a good found footage film, but horror shorts have stolen my heart in the past year or so. So this was quite the find. Enjoy, y'all.

Well, this isn't something I was super excited about seeing, but it has me curious... Stephen King adaptations are in some semi decent hands these days. Enjoy, folks.

Paul W. S. Anderson sure does love his monsters... But honestly, he is a bit of a security risk behind the camera. But I respect his hustle, so we shall see. Enjoy, people.

This entry has a shit ton of issues... I know. But what I can't do is act like it hasn't played a major part in not only my childhood, but my Halloween series nostalgia. It sails in some aspects but drowns in others, because it doesn't know what it wants to be. However, Tutor is here to try to make sense of it all. I think. Enjoy, people.

After revisiting the first film recently, it was only right I checked out the sequel... While this is like my second and a half watch this time around, this follow up actually is very decent considering a sequel could have worked against the classic Blacula. Instead we get some decent continuity, casting, acting, and moments from this gem here. Enjoy, people.

Having never read the book as a kid, the 1990 on screen adaptation of The Witches was always classic childhood nostalgia for me... And the older I got, the more I noticed how dark in tone that movie truly could get. It had the potential to be a horror/comedy if it wanted to be. So when the news broke that Robert Zemeckis himself was directing Anne Hathaway as the Grand High Witch in a remake, with...

Let me tell y'all something right now... I don't care how silly a movie may be, voodoo is just something that sits all wrong with me in any film. Some antics shouldn't be played with so when I got the feeling this had that vibe to it, I was more interested. Omari Harwick and Lorretta Divine already drew me in, but the idea of it seemed interesting. Enjoy, y'all.

This seems like a flick that's going to make you ladies out there look at sew ins an entirely different way... This is while I prefer just low cuts and no hair in general for myself. Though I've seen this narrative before, it's sometimes fun to see how clothes, objects, or even hair can take control of it's human host and cause havoc. Only if it's done well, though. Enjoy, people.

Even though I missed the majority of season 1, I'll accept this as a peace offering from Netflix... Since mainstream Hollywood pushed Fast 9 back to 2021. I hate waiting for these properties to come out. But since it's fast, furious and full of over the top vehicle hijinks, I can buy into that in an animated series. Enjoy, y'all.

Well, there's vampires... And there's kids, in the Bronx. So there's that. Enjoy, folks.

Blaxploitation horror... Two words that combine to bring me so much joy nowadays. I say "nowadays" because I spent a long time letting movies like these pass my by, but I'm gaining more of an appreciation. As much as I want a remake of this film, I was really surprised at how well it holds up. This was definitely one that broke some ground for movies like Vampire In Brooklyn to be made, but in a m...

Blumhouse is one for direct sequels and remakes for some reason... In the case of of ballsy moves Halloween 2018, they pull it off. In the case of just pitiful moves like Black Christmas 2019, there's no excuse for that. Just like there's no excuse for this. But I was misled because this is actually a sequel to the 1996 classic witchcraft flick. But it doesn't feel that way. Enjoy, y'all.

This movie always floats it's way around my spin cycle, so it's only right I pay my respects... While the movie still deserves it that is. This is such a gem that I think people forget just how dark it actually gets. But as any Tim Burton and Batman collab should be. An underrated masterpiece. Enjoy, y'all.

In the year 2020 and with all mainstream horror being pushed back until 2021, I see the names Lin Shaye/Tobin Bell and I side eye the project... Nothing against those two whatsoever. I love their acting. But they're two of the many horror icons that can fully attach themselves to a genre film, knowing good and well it's not their best work. I admire the dedication to us horror buffs, but I can't a...

Finally!!!... With today being the date George C. Scott passed away back in 1999, there was no way I could miss the opportunity to cover this film. This was something I wanted to either review or do commentary for since I started this podcast, but I held out. At what a cost too, because this is truly an underrated gem and one of my favorite/scariest movies of all time. Just brilliant on every leve...

When I see Clive Barker's name attached to a project, there's this strange and uneasy feeling that comes to mind... Nothing against the man's legacy and his genre genius, but I have to be in the mood to watch his stuff. After his films are done, I feel like I've just left a satanic brothel where everyone sacrifices animals and then themselves after. It's just wild. But it's horror and an anthology...

I wasn't excited for this here when it was in production... Safe to say I'm still not. Ans I don't think I can ever bring myself to be. Enjoy, y'all.

Universal just can't seem to find the right consistency when it comes to this Dark Universe that's forever in limbo... Back in the day set the tone, but I still stick to my guns when I say the 90s and early 2000s had these properties on smash. Now we have another take on the character Claud Rains made epic. The first take since Kevin Bacon in Hollow Man if I'm not mistaken. This is my first time g...

I had no idea what this was but I saw Jeffery Reddick was attached, who wrote both Final Destination and Final Destination 2... So I guess that's a big plus. But something tells me this is an attempt to recreate something similar to the magic that sparked that series in particular. Which can be risky. Enjoy, people.

Hands down, this is one of thee best road trips for my nostalgia trip... So many memories with this gem, and so many nightmare inducing moments thanks to the wacky ans genius mind of Tim Burton. Paul Rubens' Pee Wee Herman persona may be very strange and unusual but damn it, it's memorable as one of cinema's most likable goofball to bless an adventure on the big screen. Enjoy, folks.

As I say in the opening of this episode, I would recommend tuning in to the actual video itself to get the full effect of the quiz... The YouTube video title is "Guess The 100 Horror Movies Challenge/Quiz/Test", and the actual YouTube channel is "FUNNYFRIQUIZ". This is to assure people I wasn't messing around with this here. These are usually easy as hell to bang out, but I didn't think there woul...

There's something interesting about a work of art (a craft, pun intended) out of my league that interests me... I'm not sure why but when witches are involved, it's sometimes a good venture. This is definitely one for the books, and has more of a dark tone than people remember. So why not kill some time talking about a quartet of good/evil witches to you guys. Enjoy, y'all.

This is a narrative that has been done to death but something tells me that a slasher twist, ironically enough, will revive the idea of it. There's a shortage of horror comedies that are actually good out here, so I appreciate when new ones test the waters and can nail the idea. While this can be it's own take on Freaky Friday, it's actually a spin off of Happy Death Day, and helmed by the same di...

If you say "The Crow", or in this more simplified case "Crow", I'm automatically interested... On the low, this is one of my favorite characters ever on screen from a comic book. There's something so darkly beautiful about the overall narrative, even though it's really a tragedy. And since the movie series can't seem to EVER get a leg up and get the ball rolling again, I'm certainly down for a fan...
