As we have walked through the book of Jonah, we’re surprised that the prophet of God - the person of whom we expect obedience and faithfulness - is so far from the will of God. In fact, Jonah tell us a lot about what not to do as followers of Christ. Join us as we conclude this sermon series on Jonah with three summary applications.

“Jonah was a prophet who never really got it.” Those famous lines from Veggie Tales are right on the money. Specifically, Jonah struggled with God’s compassion. Join us this week as we take a look at Jonah 4.5-11.

Jonah 4 is a key chapter of the book revealing the heart of the Jonah with clarity. This is the place readers finally understand the reasons Jonah ran from God and his reluctance to obey God. Throughout chapter 4 we will learn several lessons from Jonah including Lesson 1 about anger, complaining, and controlling.

When reading the book of Jonah, it’s startling that the people we think would be reluctant to God are actually the most receptive. Those that seem the most receptive are actually the most reluctant. More than anything else, Jonah 3 teaches us about repentance. Enjoy!

In Jonah 2, it seems like the reluctant prophet finally comes to his senses. He prays, he looks to God, and he worships…but does he really repent? Does he personally confess wrongdoing and show signs of complete humility? Find out in this week’s sermon in Jonah!

The reluctant prophet, Jonah, rebels against God’s mission for the city of Nineveh. Instead of embracing the mission, he ignores it. Instead of engaging the mission, he runs from it. In chapter 1 we learn a lot about running from God, sin, and God’s pursuit of us as well as his mission.

Although one of the oldest of all the prophets, Jonah might be the most applicable, especially, when it comes to evangelism. How do we reach the godless, secular culture with the Gospel? Where do we even start? Jonah will first show us, that running from it, is actually running from God and His mission.

What does it mean to be a sacrificial giver? How does Paul encourage sacrificial giving without demanding, commanding, or manipulating? Join us as we wrap up our 4 part sermon series on Generosity, the Gospel Cure for Possession Obsession.

As we continue our sermon series on generosity Pastor Jared discusses giving joyfully. The New Testament expects believers to give, but never forcefully or manipulatively. Instead, our attitude about giving should be joyful and thankful.

Just like other spiritual disciplines, giving is a discipline that starts at the heart level. If our generosity never transforms the heart it will always be a right thing done for the wrong reasons. Join us as Pastor Jared talks about a transformed heart that passionately gives to God.

With the Babylonian army on his doorstep, Habakkuk is terrified. Nevertheless, he pens one of the most famous, hopeful, and peaceful sections in all of scripture. How can Habakkuk have hope? What is hope? Join us for Habakkuk 3.16-19.

In desperate times, the prophet Habakkuk appeals to Israel’s history of redemption and God using nature to accomplish his purpose for the nations. Join us as we look at Habakkuk 3 and explore the promises of God, which provide hope for our future.

By the time we read chapter 3, Habakkuk is a changed man. Why? He has hope. He has answers. He has knowledge that leads to a deeper faith. He now knows that what God has done in the past is a model and promise of what he will do in the future. Join us for Habakkuk 2.20-3.7.

In Habakkuk chapter 2, a 5-part song portrays the sin of Babylon. Even though specific sins are mentioned, they all culminate with a summary description of sin as idolatry. While many think this ancient sinful practice is irrelevant today, the culture displays the exact opposite conclusion. Join us for a sermon on Habakkuk 2.9-19.

The Prophet Habakkuk wrote a taunt song to memorialize the awful nature of sin that Judah was about to experience in the forthcoming Babylonian nightmare. His first emphasis is sin as pride, which launched into a 5-part taunt song. Join Pastor Jared as he explains the nature of pride and extortion in this weeks’ sermon in Habakkuk 2.4-8.

When people suffer doubts about God can flourish. We often wrestle with injustice and the problem of evil…and Habakkuk did too. Nevertheless, the prophet peppers his questions and doubts with real answers concerning the character of God!

How should we respond to God when it seems like He is silent? What can we do when it feels like He idly looks at injustice? Habakkuk did some things right and some things wrong. This book offers us a guide for trusting God is in control when everything around us suggests that He is not.

James concludes his hard hitting letter with 3 aspects of authentic faith that seem to influence everything for Christians: patience, prayer, and purpose. Join us as Pastor Jared concludes TBC’s sermon series on James and authentic faith.
