Truth to Live By

In this passage we see Paul and Silas actively engaged in ministry.   First they come into contace with Lydia, to whom they baptized.  Then they cast out a demon out of a young girl.  They are thrown into prison, where the Bible tells us in Acts 16: 25, "And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God..."  After an amazing series of events, the Philippians jailor falls before them...

In this chapter we see Paul in his 2nd Missionary Journey.  We also will see Paul's success in ministry.  If we follow his example, we can also be successful in ministry.

In the first part of this chapter a very important truth was established.  We are all saved by placing our faith in Jesus Christ.  Now, certain believers along with Paul and Barnabas will deliver this message to the Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia.  In this study Pastor Kevin Akana will also share with us how we can determine truth.  

Do you need to become a Jew first in order to saved?  This is what will be in answered in the Jerusalem council.  The answer to this question was that both Jew and Gentile are saved the same way.  Peter said, "But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they(Acts 15:11)."

In this chapter we see Paul and Barnabas continues on their first missionary journey.  Chapter 14 closes with Paul and Barnabas returning to the church at Antioch to report "all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles(Acts 14:27)."

In this chapter study, we will see an apostle who had perfect peace.  James the brother of John had just been killed by Herod, and Peter was arrested. Yet, we will see that Peter is at peace.  We do not see him worrying, but we find him asleep between two soldiers.  

News had spread among "the apostles and brethren" that the Gentiles had also received the word of God (Acts 10:1), but not everyone was happy."  In chapter 11 Peter reviews with the brethren, the events that led to the Gentiles hearing and receiving the word of God.  After hearing from Peter, their conclusion was "Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life." In this chapter God uses a Jew, Peter to take the gospel to a Gentile, Cornelius.  In a vision the LORD tells Peter, "What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common(Acts 10:15)."  The sacrifice that Christ made on the cross made it possible for all to be saved.

In this chapter seven holy men of God would be chosen to serve tables.  At the end of the chapter, we see one man Stephen who would be falsely accused of blasphemy. In the next chapter we will Stephen's defense not of himself, but of his faith.

In this chapter we will see a church that was unstoppable.   When sin crept into the church, it was removed.  Then there came outside oppostion, which tried to silence them.  Peter and the other apostles said, "We ought to obey God rather than men(Acts 5:29)." 

In this chapter we will see the effects of the lame man being healed.  First of all Peter preaches to the people and 5,000 men believed.  Then we see the response of the religious crowd.  Peter and John were commanded to not speak or teach in the name of Jesus.  They said, "we cannnot but speak the things which we have seen and heard." (Acts 4:20)

  In this chapter we learn of the healing of a man who was lame from his mother's womb.   After this healing Peter begins to preach to the multitude.  In the next chapter will see that 5,000 men believed and were saved.
